INCIDENTS (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 3B)
Atlanta couple
arrested after
being stopped
in stolen rental
A 28-year-old black
Atlanta man and a
35-year-old black
Atlanta woman were
each arrested and
charged with theft by
receiving stolen prop
erty after a traffic stop
on 1-75 South on July
1. At about 1:52 p.m.,
Cpl. Daniel Ahlstrom
saw a white 2016 Kia
Sportage traveling 95
mph in a 70 mph zone
on 1-75 South near mile
marker 191. Dispatchers
then notified Ahlstrom
the vehicle was stolen,
so he detained the male
driver while Dep. John
Thompson detained the
female passenger. Both
the driver and the pas
senger said they bor
rowed the vehicle from
another Atlanta man.
They said the other man
had had the vehicle for
several weeks and it
was rented in someone
else’s name. Ahlstrom
then asked the driver
and passenger if they
thought it was normal
to borrow a rental car in
violation of a rental con
tract or to keep a rental
car for weeks, and they
did not have an answer.
Ahlstrom then took both
the driver and the pas
senger to the Monroe
County Jail. The driver
was also charged with
speeding. Ahlstrom then
notified the Atlanta
Police Department of
the stolen vehicle’s
recovery.
Deputies arrive
at Tommys Trail
home after shot
wounds resident
At about 12:45 a.m.
on July 5, Dep. Caleb
Dunn went to a Tommys
Trail home where a
male resident said he
accidentally shot himself
with a pistol. The resi
dent had a bullet hole
wound to his left leg and
said he was not trying
to commit suicide. Dunn
then asked the resident
where the firearm he
had used was located,
and the resident said
it was secured in his
wardrobe. Dunn then
retrieved the firearm,
a Smith and Wesson
.38 revolver, which was
fully loaded except for
one spent shell casing.
Cpl. Daniel Ahlstrom
then arrived at the
scene to assist along
with Monroe County
EMTs. The resident’s
girlfriend told Dunn she
did not hear the gunshot
because she had taken
sleeping medication
before going to bed. The
resident’s girlfriend then
told Dunn the resident
had been very depressed
recently and had spoken
of committing suicide
earlier in the night, but
she said she thought
nothing of it. Dunn
then asked the resident
where the shooting had
occurred, and the resi
dent said he was seated
on the couch when he
fired the shot. Dunn
then looked on the couch
and saw blood on a pil
low lying on the floor.
Next to the couch was
an envelope that had
“I love you” written on
it. Dunn then returned
the handgun to the
resident’s girlfriend and
instructed her to secure
it in a location where
the resident would not
be able to find it.
Woman reports
chameleon theft
from boyfriend’s
Taylor Rd. home
At about 2:37 a.m.
on July 1, Cpl. Kevin
Powell went to a Taylor
Road home where a
woman said someone
had gone into her boy
friend’s home while
she was in Savannah
and killed her chame
leon. The woman said a
flatscreen TV had also
been knocked over but
it did not appear any
thing else was missing
or damaged. The woman
said the door was open
when she arrived home,
and there was no sign of
forced entry. The woman
said she left the home at
about 4 p.m. on June 28
and did not return until
about 2 a.m. on July 1.
She said her boyfriend’s

Culloden store
burglarized
on July 1, $400
cash missing
At about 2 a.m. on July
1, Dep. Jarred Duncan
went to the Market
Place store in Culloden
about a burglar alarm.
When Duncan arrived,
he found the front door
open and a cash drawer
from the store’s cash
register on the counter
next to the register. The
cash drawer for the lot
tery register was also
removed and was on the
floor. No cash was in
either register but the
change was undisturbed
in both of them. A
female store clerk then
arrived at the scene and
said there was about
$400 in cash combined
missing from the two
registers. The clerk said
sometimes the door,
which did not appear to
have been pried open,
will come open simply
by snatching it hard.
Duncan then pulled on
the door while it was
locked several times but
it remained secured.
Duncan photographed
the scene but did not
discover any finger
prints.

A 19-year-old black

on July 1, Dep. Perry
Fitzgerald and Sgt.
William Jackson saw
a silver 1999 Honda

said she was swerving
back and forth within
her lane because she
was driving her aunt’s
car and she was not
used to operating it. The
driver then denied con

taking any prescription
medication and allowed
the deputies to search

The driver was then

At about 9 a.m. on July
5, Sgt. Michael Hull
met with a Valdosta
woman who said she
was with her grandchil

a Whittle Road home
when two of the neigh

two dogs. The woman
said the neighbor’s
dogs, which were both
pit bulls, chased her
and her grandchildren
toward the house before
attacking the woman’s
six-year-old toy poodle,
severely injuring it. The
female resident said the
neighbor’s dogs come
onto her property fre
quently and have nipped
at her children before.
The woman’s poodle was
taken to the Woodland
Animal Hospital in
Locust Grove for treat
ment. Hull then met
with the male neighbor
