Outside Looking In...
She’s just worse
By DON DANIEL
tullaybear@bellsouth. net
t was a young George Washington so the story
goes, after cutting down a cherry tree, respond
ed, “I cannot tell a lie”.
Thusly, this presidential election is posing
some very interesting questions that could
be asked parents by their children. How would
you respond to your young child when caught in
an “untruth’ and the youngster responds, “Hillary
Clinton lies and she wants to be president. Is it okay
for her to lie and not me?” Your
response?
In my opinion, those who are
supporting Hillary Clinton for
president condone lying, money
grubbing and a total disregard
for the law and the honor of rep
resenting all of us in the highest
office of the USA.
And then, there is the Donald
Trump recorded and aired
“locker room” talk. If you hear
your son using such derogatory
remarks do you have a “father-
son” talk explaining that kind of
talk and attitude will not be tol
erated? Or are his/her repeating what they hear from
you, heard on television or by their friends a legiti
mate excuse for the attitude toward the opposite sex?
As parents, we have all heard our children say
“everybody else does it”. The correct response to that
child’s statement as I have stated to my children and
grandchildren is, “you are not everybody else.”
If there is one simple perception of this presidential
election, it is that it’s personal and nasty and many
politicians elected or running for public office are
being classified as being morally unworthy and cor
rupt of representing us on the public stage of democ
racy.
To sum up this diatribe, here is the lead paragraph
from a story in the Wall Street Journal: “Donald
Trump wears his character flaws on his sleeve.
Hillary Clinton seeks to prevent documentation of
hers, even when the law requires it. Yet despite her
best efforts, facts about Mrs. Clinton that are not
public should trouble voters more than any of Mr.
Trump’s remarks”.
If you haven’t voted, show up at the polls and cast
your vote.
NOT making local headlines is the mayoral elec
tion over in Culloden which will be on the ballot next
Tuesday. Incumbent Mayor Melvin James has a com
petitor, Lynn Miller. Winners of elections in Culloden
are often by a slim one or two-vote margin.
THERE was a “mass” of people at the Fried Green
Tomato Festival this past Saturday and Sunday in
Juliette and yes, fried green tomatoes were the best
food seller. Festival Director Tommy Moon had his
hands full coordinating the success of the event.
THIS Saturday, down at the Historical Society
depot complex in Forsyth, the annual Train Festival
will feature a real train, Norfolk Southern’s 911 train
will stop for a couple of hours for a “photo op”.
Another attractor you will not want to miss at
the Train Festival will be a Central Georgia Model
Railroad Club train layout in the Conley Building.
The trains will be “running”.
THE CORRECT answer to The Question, what
was the name of the Monroe Countian who set
a “world squat” record, was submitted by Alycia
Causey. Jim Benson set the world squat record.
Alycia gets a certificate for a dozen Dunkin Donuts,
Dairy Queen Blizzard, two Lucky Cafe egg rolls,
Jonah’s cookie, Whistle Stop fried green tomato appe
tizer and a Forsyth Main Street t-shirt.
This should be an easy The Question: who— the
name—was selected Mary Persons’ homecoming
queen? First correct answer after twelve noon on
Thursday gets the certificate.
RESIDENTS on a section of Juliette Road are
to be commended for their efforts to clean up their
right-of-ways with signs urging motorists not to toss
their trash. The City of Forsyth also has signs urging
drivers not to toss their trash. Understand Forsyth
resident Dr. Tom Perry is heading up the Forsyth
clean-up efforts.
Here’s a Vent worth repeating: “Secure your trash
on the way to the Recycling Center. You know if you
leave home with a truck full and get there with two
pieces....DUH! Something happened!! Juliette Road is
full of your trash!”
FOOTBALL fever leaped up a couple of notches
Friday night when the Mary Persons Bulldogs ful
filled their homecoming efforts defeating the Perry
Panthers 49 to 7 to win the Region 2-AAAA title for a
second straight region championship.
More sports will be coming to Monroe County when
the Hometown Teams sports exhibit arrives next
year. Both Forsyth and Monroe County have donated
taxpayer money for the six-week exhibit beginning in
June.
Along those same lines, there is a movement to
establish a Sports Hall of Fame here in Forsyth.
Wonder what the status of a train museum is?
SPRECHEN der German? Obviously we need to
learn to speak German. Forsyth’s Convention and
Visitor’s Bureau is going to be touring around the
county a German tour operator. This will be the
second German group that has “discovered” Monroe
County specifically wanting to tour Juliette.
I AM predicting a cold winter and I am basing my
prediction watching a chipmunk fill his cheek with
leaves then taking them into his hole. He makes sev
eral trips.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Forsyth wonderful to evacuees
Hurricane Evacuees enjoy a spaghetti dinner at Forsyth UMC.
To the editor:
ery special thanks to
your lovely town for
the warm welcome you
gave two evacuees from
the hurricane a couple
of weeks ago. We arrived tired and
full of trepidation and were greeted
by a wonderful woman at the
Welcome Center who became our
best-friend-away-from-home. She
answered many questions as we
visited for help almost every day
and we were remiss in not getting
her name.
As the governor was warning
about hurricane price-gouging,
marvelous Ann Matich of Ann’s
Deli where we had some great
lunches was instituting a 10 per
cent discount for evacuees!
At the Welcome Center we met
an actor from the about-to-open
play who invited us to come. So
we had an entertaining evening
at “Arsenic and Old Lace” in your
enchanting Rose Theater where we
forgot our worries as we laughed at
the fun.
Leaving Savannah in a rush, we
got to Forsyth with shaggy locks
much in need of a redo. Josie at
West Mane gave my friend a fine
haircut and me the best cut and
color of my life. It’s a bit far to go
for a regular monthly cut, but she’s
so good it’s tempting!
And we especially commend
Linda at the Days Inn who cleaned
our room with smiles, competence
and cheery words nearly every day
of our stay.
Sunday lunch at El Tejado was a
surprising treat. Who expects such
a small town to have such great
Mexican food?
What started out in fear and
misery turned into an unexpected
vacation and the people of Forsyth
deserve accolades for being able to
make us feel so comfortable and
among friends. You are a blessed
community! Thank you, thank
you, thank you! By the way, we got
home to find many lost trees, but
neither of our houses damaged.

As election comes, let us pray
BY CAROLYN MARTEL
ads@mymcr.net
N ever has it been more
important for each of us
to pray for our nation. I
think we all sense that
our nation is standing
at an historic crossroads. Will we
remain one nation under God with
Christian values, or will be become
a communist third-world banana
republic?
WE KNOW from scrip
ture that God can turn the
hearts of kings (Proverbs
21:1). We are also instruct
ed in God’s word to pray for
those in positions of power.
God calls for His people
to pray for His will to
be done. Our leaders - ft ,
need to be surrounded
by godly counsel and,
most important, we need to pray
that our leaders would personally
come to know God and the salvation
found through faith in Jesus Christ.
THINK ABOUT all of the issues
the next, president and congress
will face. What will they do about
our massive debt, high unemploy
ment, the fiasco of Obamacare and
ISIS to mention a few? Plus our
broken borders are a major chal
lenge. In addition to all of the other
concerns, open borders provide ter
rorists easy access. ISIS is brutally
murdering Christians in Syria and
Iraq, and other jihadists are killing
Christians in Iran and other parts
of the Muslim world. Will we live to
see Christians martyred like this in
America? Do you think it can’t hap
pen? I say think again!
ON THE world scene, our rela
tionship with Russia is on thin ice
and China is spending huge
amounts on its military (we
are not), and North Korea
has nuclear weapons and has
vowed to use them against
United States! And a nuclear
Iran cannot be trusted either.
I PERSONALLY feel
a sense of urgency to
pray for America as never
before, especially for those in lead
ership. The upcoming presidential
election, Tuesday, November 8, is
one of the most important in our
nation’s history! It’s my prayer that
God will intervene and turn the
destructive tide we are witnessing
by giving us honest, God-fearing
leaders from the top down! Are you
as sick of the lies, greed and corrup
tion as I am?
WE HAVE experienced serious
moral degradation and corruption
in America. The day may soon come
when the freedoms we enjoy now
will no longer exist, if Christians to
do not rise up and pray like never
before!. A few years back, Franklin
Graham said, “I can’t help but ask
myself if all Christians had fulfilled
this admonition and been faithful
to pray for our leaders, would our
nation—even our world—be differ
ent today? Can our diligent, heartfelt
prayers make a difference for the
future? Most certainly.”
I KNOW that some churches will
be open for prayer on Tuesday, Nov.
8. If your church will not be open for
prayer on November 8,1 invite you
to come to Mt. Zion UMC located
at 40 Rumble Road in Smarr. The
church will be hosting a “Day of
Prayer” for our nation. The sanctu
ary will be open for prayer 7 a.m. -7
p.m. You are invited to drop in any
time during the day to pray. There
will also be a special prayer service
at 12 noon for all who would like to
attend. Monroe County, let’s pray!
Our nation’s future is at stake!

Unfair and Unbalanced
Did someone ‘get* to Comey?
BY MARILYN LANGFORD
mdlangford@bellsouth. net
T his is important to keep
[n mind as we tick off the
next few days until the
election. FBI Director
James Comey is a
Republican appointed by President
Obama. He worked in the Bush
Administration, he contributed to
John McCain’s campaign, he con
tributed to Mitt Romney’s campaign,
and he publicly professes to be a
Republican. Now he announces just
11 days before the election that he
“maj?’ or “may not” have some new
evidence against Hillary Clinton
which “may’ or “may not”
be pertinent to Hillary’s
email investigation. He gave
clues leading one to think
this email was discovered
while investigating Anthony
Weiner’s sexting of a 15-year
old girl, but has nothing to do
with Hillary or her
private server. He
further stated that
it “may be a while”
before he can deter
mine if it’s “something” or “nothing.”
JUST IMAGINE that the shoe
was on the other foot; that the
FBI Director was a Democrat in a
Republican administration. Imagine
if you can, under the same circum
stances, a Democrat dropped a “dirty
bomb” like this one, just days away
from the most historic election in our
lifetime. No doubt he would be on his
way to Gitmo by now and experienc
ing a hard landing by Pence’s pilot.
I PERSONALLY think someone
got to him! Someone, like a bigly
game show producer. Perhaps he
is doing a reality audition for the
host of a new version of “I’ve Got A
Secret!” Either that, or auditioning
for the starring role in remake of
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
OR MAYBE, just maybe, he is a
victim of the 35-year-old conspiracy
by Republicans to destroy Hillary
Clinton, no matter what it takes.
Maybe he caved to the threats of
the Republican-controlled Judiciary
Committee. Or maybe, just maybe,
he’s creating his place in history.
He could replace J. Edgar
Hoover as the most infamous
FBI Director in our history.
After all, even J. Edgar never
(openly) single-handedly exer
cised such influence over the
outcome of our Presidential
election. We will be debat
ing this issue until the
Zombies come.
THIS IS my last
Unfair and Unbalanced
column before “E” Day. For the past
16 months, I have made my case
against Trump and for Hillary. Here
is an excerpt from my column of
April 15, 2015:
“Nothing Hillary ever does can be
low-key. That’s why I feel sorry for
her. She’s obviously an incurable
glutton for punishment. She is the
most vilified, investigated public fig
ure/politician in history. Everything
about her is scrutinized. From the
way she wears her hair, to what
pantsuit she wears, her cankles and
other bodily features, and most of
all, down to a complete dissection of
every word she utters. Is there any
wonder she appears guarded, stoic,
and distrustful of the media? Sadly,
she ‘ain’t seen notin yet!”
IN THIS same column, I asked
the question, ‘Do we want a coun
try of extremes, or one that is more
tolerant?’ At that time, I couldn’t
project just how ungodly extreme a
Trump presidency could be.
FURTHER, I noted at the end of
this same column 16 months ago, as
I was speaking of courage to vote for
her, “If Hillary is tough enough to
withstand what she’s going to face,
then so are you!” She has, and she
will!
AS A REMINDER when you
vote, don’t sell our children to Gov.
Deal! Vote NO on Amendment 1.
And, don’t sell our Justice system
to the Georgia Legislators. Vote
NO on Amendment 3. In fact, since
we weren’t shown the respect of
public hearings on any of these
Amendments, just Vote NO on all
of them. Also, come to think of it,
Republicans have no opposition in
Monroe County. So, as Trump says,
“What do you have to lose?” Send a
message that you’re not happy with
the direction Republicans are tak
ing our State. Just Vote the Straight
Democratic Ticket !
