Public Record
INCIDENTS
The following incidents
were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriff’s
Department Oct. 18-Nov.
1.
Man arrested
after allegedly
lying to deputies
about gunman
A 45-year-old black
Forsyth man was arrested
and charged with public
drunkenness after an
incident on the North
Lee Street extension on
Oct. 27. At about 8:46
p.m., Monroe County dis
patchers notified Monroe
County deputies that a
man had called 9-1-1 and
said he was being chased
by another man with a
shotgun near Days Inn
in Forsyth. Dep. Thomas
Haskins began looking for
the two men. The caller
said the alleged gunman
was wearing all white and
had run into the woods.
The caller told dispatchers
he was out of breath and
could not give an accurate
location of where he was.
Dispatchers were also hav
ing trouble understanding
the caller. When deputies
could not find the caller,
Dep. John Thompson and
Lt. Mike Ogletree went
to the caller’s Ensign
Road home, where they
still couldn’t locate him.
Dispatchers then told
Haskins the caller was
on the 1-75 South exit
ramp at Exit 187, where
Haskins found him. The
man said he needed water
and Monroe County EMS.
After calling EMTs to the
scene, Haskins asked the
man about the alleged gun
man. The man just shook
his head and again said
he needed EMS. The man
appeared very intoxicated
and stumbled through his
words. He appeared to be
having trouble standing
and was swaying from
side to side. Officer Wade
Kendrick of the Forsyth
Police Department then
asked the man where the
shotgun was, and the man
answered, “Nowhere.”
Kendrick then asked the
man if he had made up the
story about the gunman,
and the man responded,
“I did not see the guy,”
before again asking for
EMS. The man said he had
had two pints of Canadian
Mist whiskey. Haskins
determined the man’s
story didn’t make sense
and the story of the gun
man appeared to be false.
The man later admitted to
having smoked synthetic
marijuana about an hour
prior. EMTs then took the
man to the Monroe County
Hospital for treatment.
Port Wentworth
man charged
with trafficking
meth in 1-75 stop
A 27-year-old white
Port Wentworth man was
arrested and charged with
trafficking methamphet-
amine after a traffic stop
on 1-75 South on Oct. 23.
At about 11:10 p.m. on
Oct. 23, Monroe County
dispatchers notified Dep.
Jarred Duncan to be on the
lookout for a silver 2007
Ford Focus speeding on
1-75 South. Duncan caught
up to the car as it exited
onto Johnstonville Road
and stopped it for hav
ing improper tag display.
Duncan then smelled burnt
marijuana coming from
inside the car. The male
driver then admitted to
smoking pot earlier. The
driver was very fidgety
and began digging around
inside his car as though
he was looking for his
license. Dispatchers then
notified Duncan the car’s
tag belonged on another
vehicle, and the car didn’t
have insurance. Duncan
then spotted a Tupperware
container on the front pas
senger seat containing sus
pected methamphetamine.
Duncan then removed a
jacket from the front seat to
view the container and saw
it had inside of it a large
clear, gallon-sized plastic
bag containing suspected
methamphetamine. Also,
a semiautomatic Taurus
pistol fell out of the jacket.
The pistol’s chamber was
empty but the magazine
contained six 9 mm Luger
rounds. Duncan then took
possession of the pistol and
drugs. He later determined
the weight of the drugs as
146 grams. The man was
also charged with posses
sion of a firearm during
the commission of a crime,
possession of a firearm by
a convicted felon, improper
tag display and having sus
pended registration.
Forsyth woman
arrested after
allegedly hitting
sister with mug
A 20-year-old white
Forsyth woman was arrest
ed and charged with aggra
vated battery after a fight
at a Hester Road home on
Oct. 28. At about 7:07 p.m.
on Oct. 28, Dep. Jarred
Duncan went to Monroe
County Hospital where he
met with a woman being
treated in the emergency
room. The woman had vis
ible scratches on her right
shoulder and collarbone
and also had a large bleed
ing knot on her head. The
woman said there was a
large fight at her home on
Hester Road. The woman
said her sister was arguing
with her mother. She said
during the argument, her
sister slapped her mother
in the face at which point
the woman stepped in
to break them up. The
woman said her sister then
began hitting her, includ
ing grabbing a coffee mug
and hitting her in the head
with it. Duncan then went
to the Hester Road home
to meet with the sister
and mother. The mother
said they were having an
argument when the sister
slapped her. The mother
said the woman then tried
to grab her sister, which
caused the two of them to
fight. She said sometime
during the fracas, the sis
ter hit the woman in the
head with a coffee mug.
The sister then corrobo
rated their account of the
incident. The sister was
then taken to the Monroe
County Jail, where she was
also charged with simple
battery.
Three firearms,
gun safe stolen
from home on
Teagle Road
At about 12:36 p.m.
on Oct. 28, Cpl. Daniel
Ahlstrom went to a Teagle
Road home about a bur
glary. The male resident
said he left his home for
work at about 5 a.m. that
morning. The resident
said while he was at work,
he was contacted by two
female family members
who told him his home had
been broken into. He said
the two family members
were working outside at his
home and noticed at about
noon it had been burglar
ized when they found the
front door was pried open.
The resident said several
items of furniture had been
moved in order to remove
his Winchester gun safe.
A total of three firearms,
a DPMS AR-15, a Marlin
22 and a Remington 742,
were stolen, as were a
Horton Legend crossbow
and a substantial amount
of ammunition. The total
value of the stolen items
was about $3,000. The
resident said the safe
weighs about 800 pounds,
yet there was no visible
damage to the floor from
it being moved. However,
all of the furniture in the
home appeared to have
been moved in order to
create a path to remove
the safe. Ahlstrom saw tire
marks in the dirt: leading
up the front porch, but
they had been walked over
several times prior to his
arrival. The resident said
he suspects his brother or
another man are involved
in the thefts. On the same
day at about 5:50 a.m.,
Ahlstrom responded to call
about a suspicious vehicle,
a 2005 Acura, parked on
Teagle Road near Brownlee
Road at the entrance to the
cell tower. Ahlstrom made
contact with a man and
woman who appeared to be
sleeping. The couple said
they were living out of their
car and had been there
asleep all night.
Fayetteville, N.C.
woman charged
with obstruction
in 1-75 South stop
A 28-year-old black
Fayetteville, N.C. woman
was arrested and charged
with obstruction after she
argued with deputies dur
ing a traffic stop on 1-75
South on Oct. 27. At about
5:40 p.m., Sgt. Michael
Hull saw a green 1994
Honda Accord changing
lanes without- signaling
and tailgating a truck
on 1-75 South near mile
marker 191. Hull also
saw the male driver was
not- wearing his seat- belt-
When Hull tried to stop
the car, the driver was
slow to pull over and he
saw a female passenger
moving around inside the
car. Hull saw the driver’s
hand was shaking as he
handed him his license.
Hull then told the driver
his license was suspended
and searched him, dis
covering a small butane
torch inside his pocket-
Hull then asked the pas
senger, who was the car’s
owner, for her license, and
she was reluctant- to give
it- to him. The passenger
then refused to allow Hull
to search her car without,
a warrant. Dep. John
Thompson then walked
his K-9 dog around the
vehicle. When Thompson
handcuffed the passenger,
she became very agitated
and demanded her cuffs be
removed. The passenger
then wanted the deputies’
badge numbers and IDs
and wanted to talk on her
phone. The passenger then
became angry that- her
Miranda Rights warning
was not- read to her after
she was handcuffed. She
then said that- situations
like this are “why no one
likes your f- a-“ in ref
erence to police. The driv
er, a 27-year-old Fairburn
man, was charged with
driving while license sus
pended.
