Book signing for Hesse’s
‘Well of Rage’ is Dec. 5
BY DIANE

On Monday, Dec. 5
locals will have a chance
to buy a fast-paced, newly-
published murder mystery,
meet an author with 25
years experience in hands-
on law enforcement and
a passion for social justice
and hear about her nearly-
completed next book,
which is set in Forsyth and
Bamesville.
The book signing for
“Well of Rage” by Lynn
Hesse will be at the
Monroe County Clubhouse,
52 W. Chambers Street,
Forsyth from 5-8 p.m. ‘Doc’
Bob Fountain will provide
musical entertainment, and
there will be light refresh
ments. The author will read
selections from her works
and will talk about the
development of characters,
plot and setting.
Excited about her sister’s
first full-length novel, Kathy
Herndon and her husband,
Phil, are hosting the book
signing to share the book
and the author with Monroe
County. Phil is a native of
Monroe County; he may be
best known as the sought-
after woodturner who
offers beautiful bowls and
other works of art created
from wood at the Forsythia
Festival each year. He also
served Monroe County
as Deputy Fire Chief for
a while after he retired
from the East Point Fire
Department.
Kathy and her sister,
Lynn, grew up around the
country as their father
moved on his job with
Toledo Scales. His last
assignment was in Atlanta;
when he retired he and
Kathy and Lynn’s mother
moved to Lamar County in
the late 70’s and then built
a home in Monroe County.
Kathy has made her home
in Monroe County since
1988; she taught kindergar
ten and first grade in Lamar
County for years, and her

sons attended middle school
and high school in Forsyth.
Lynn spent her law
enforcement career with
DeKalb County, attending
the Police Academy and
starting on patrol in 1980,
when women on the street
in law enforcement were
the exception, making ser
geant in about nine years.
She was a detective on the
force for three years but
then went back to working
in some of the highest crime
areas in DeKalb County.
She was up for captain
when she made the deci
sion to retire in 2003.
Lynn saw countless
cases of domestic abuse
while in law enforcement
and worked to develop
innovative programs to
offer some answers for
the problems.
Lynn’s experience
provided her material
for her murder mystery,
but her inspiration also
comes from interacting
with people in many
different venues. She is
an accomplished dancer
who continues to per
form with three troupes.
As a quilter, she offered
purses and yoga bags at two
galleries in Decatur. While
working, she also continued
her education at Georgia
State University and raised
a child.
“I have a life outside of
police work,” said Lynn.
“It helped me balance the
stress and trauma.”
And writing, another
component of creative art,
has held an important place
