Deputies locate
$3,600 in cash,
11 pounds of
drugs in vehicle
A 23-year-old white Fern
Park, Fla. man and a
22-year-old white Winter
Springs, Fla. woman
were each arrested and
charged with possession
of marijuana with intent
to distribute after a traf
fic stop on Martha Lane
on Nov. 11. At about
9:20 p.m., Deps. Thomas
Haskins and McEachem
went to Martha Lane near
Boxankle Road about a
suspicious silver 2016
Dodge Ram. The truck
was parked on the side of
Martha Lane, partially
blocking the road. Haskins
then saw the male driver
asleep in the front seat
and a female passenger
asleep in the rear seat with
a child. Haskins knocked
on the window, and the
driver told him they were
traveling from Arizona to
Florida and had stopped
on the side of the road to
sleep. Haskins then told
the driver his truck could
not stay at that location
because it was blocking the
road. He then asked the
driver if he could direct him
to a nearby motel, but the
driver told him his family
liked camping out in rest
areas and sleeping inside
their truck. Haskins then
smelled burnt marijuana
coming from the truck,
and the driver admitted to
having smoked earlier in
the day. The driver then
admitted to having a small
amount of marijuana
inside a prescription bottle
in a pink bag on the front
seat. Haskins also found a
marijuana smoking pipe
inside the bag, but the
driver denied having any
other drugs in the truck.
Haskins then saw a duffel
bag on the front passenger
seat which contained sev
eral large plastic bags of
marijuana. Haskins then
searched the truck and
found a loaded black Glock
22 .40-caliber gun on the
center front seat floorboard.
He also found a loaded
black Ruger LC9 9 mm.
gun in a suitcase in the bed
of the truck. He also found
a box of plastic bags and a
vacuum sealer that were
similar to the ones the
marijuana was packaged
in inside the truck. A large
sum of money was also
discovered in the center
console. Haskins then took
the driver, passenger and
child to the Monroe County
Jail. Haskins waited with
the passenger and the
child until Monroe County
Department of Family and
Children Services (DFCS)
took possession of the
child, who arranged for
the child’s grandmother
to pick him up. Haskins
then inventoried the truck
and discovered 11 pounds
of different variations of
marijuana. There were sev
eral vacuum-sealed plastic
bags containing marijuana,
several prescription bottles
of marijuana and several
variations of marijuana-
infused edible food supple
ments. The cash found
in the truck amounted to
$3,600. Haskins then took
the drugs and money into
evidence. The driver was
also charged with posses
sion of a firearm during the
commission of a felony.
