Local students give to
children overseas
BY KATELYN WALKER
At the local 4-H center, we have had
a fundraiser going on to raise money
to send shoe boxes full of stuff to kids
overseas in war torn countries or poor
countries, in which many of the kids
do not receive Christmas presents.
As well as money, we have been col
lecting items to put into boxes to send
overseas.
I brought the issue to
my teacher at Monroe
County Middle School,
Banks Stevens Campus,
eighth grade teacher,
Ms. Mullis. I told her
that we were collecting
items for 4-H; I told her
that I would like to do
the fundraiser in her
class and possibly the
other classes on our team
(a group of four teachers
that teach one subject,
one for each).
Ms. Mullis agreed to
help me and talked to
the other teachers about
encouraging students
to bring in items for
these children. Besides
Ms. Mullis, Ms. Ellis,
Mrs. Monk, and Ms.
Woodward agreed to
help! The four teachers
have sent out remind
ers to parents and kids
to bring in their items.
For the past two weeks
(started October 31 and
ended November 11),
team 8-2 has been col
lecting items and boxes to send to the
kids overseas.
We have collected around 200 items
and eight boxes. I would like to thank
Ms. Mullis for her help, as well as
all teachers who reminded kids and
parents, and the kids and parents
who brought in the items and partici
pated. These children will enjoy their
Christmas this year!
