BY RICHARD
DUMAS

Newly-hired
Development Authority
of Monroe County
president Kenneth “Bo”
Gregory was officially
introduced to Monroe
County commission
ers for the first time on
Tuesday, Nov. 15.
District 2 commis
sioner Jim Ham, who
is also a member of the
Development Authority
of Monroe County,
said Gregory, a North
Carolina native, is “a
good southern gentle
man” who he expects
will do a great job of
expanding industry in
Monroe County.
Ham said, “We went
through a long search
to get Bo. . . We inter
viewed a lot of folks,
talked to a lot of folks,
and then we settled on
Bo.”
Gregory, who served
in the 82nd Airborne
Division of the U.S.
Army, said he has sub
sequently worked as an
economic development
director in a handful of
communities.
Ham quipped of
Gregory’s new position:
‘You might call it a tour
of duty.”
Gregory credited the
Development Authority
and its hired search
firm, The Chason
Group, with conduct
ing a thorough search
to replace out-going
Authority director
Tiffany Andrews, who
moved to Florida earlier
in the year.
Gregory said, “It made
me feel much more con
fident that this was a
very good match for my
family and myself.”
Gregory said from his
initial view of the prod
uct that Monroe County
has to offer industries,
he’s “very encouraged”
that the county will see
economic growth.
“Everything has been
on the right track,
and I give all credit to
Tiffany,” Gregory said.
Gregory added that he
has already met with
the Monroe County
Board of Education to
express his interest in
working with the school
system on building a
strong labor force.
He said, “Communities
can give you dirt. They
can give you water.
November is Pancreatic
Cancer Awareness Month
They can sell you a
building. They can give
you decent rates on elec
tricity. But if you don’t
have a trained work
force, when you turn on
that building, you just
have a well-lit building.”
Gregory said the pres
ence of the Georgia
Public Safety Training
Center (GPSTC) in
Forsyth could enable
Let’s talk about
Monroe County to be a
location for homeland
security-related indus
try.
“I worked for
the Department of
Commerce in North
Carolina, and my main
subject was defense and
homeland security sec
tor,” Gregory said. “I
think there’s a world of
possibility there.”
