Armed man charged with
prowling in neighbors’ yards
Cross Creek residents say he terrorized area
A Cross Creek Circle
man was arrested and
charged with prowling
and criminal trespass
after his neighbors dis
covered him holding a
gun on their back porch
on Nov. 29.
Curtis Lee
Sellers, 31, was
taken to the
Monroe County
Jail, where
he was also
charged with
obstruction.
According to
the incident
report, at about
7:20 a.m., Dep.
Antwain Jones
of the Monroe County
Sheriff s Office was
notified by dispatchers
of a suspicious man,
identified as Sellers, at
a Cross Creek Circle
home. The male and
female homeowners,
William and Scottie
Lamb, told Jones there
was a white male on
their back porch with
a gun in his hand. The
Lambs said they didn’t
know who the man was
or why he was at his
home. Jones instructed
the Lambs to get into
a safe location while
Jones waited for Dep.
Kemeyan Colvard of the
Monroe County Sheriffs
Office to provide backup.
When Colvard arrived,
the deputies entered the
Lambs’ home and saw
Sellers standing on the
back porch wearing a
red shirt and blue jeans.
Sellers also appeared to
be holding a small black
handgun behind his
back. Jones saw Sellers
was pacing slowly back
SELLERS
and forth and peeking
around the corner of
the home as if he was
waiting for someone to
come to the back of the
home. When Jones saw
Sellers did appear to
have a gun, he
called for addi
tional backup.
Sellers then
heard Jones
talking over
his radio and
turned around
at which point
Jones instruct
ed Sellers to
put his gun
down and show
his hands, but
Sellers ignored him.
Jones then escorted
the homeowners outside
to a more safe location
while he and Colvard
took cover behind their
patrol vehicles. Sellers
then came out from
behind the home and
started running toward
the deputies. Jones and
Colvard then drew their
weapons and shouted for
Sellers to stop, but he
did not heed their com
mands. When Sellers
got within 30 feet of
the deputies, he then
dropped his gun and
lay down on the ground,
where the deputies
arrested him.
Meanwhile, Jones met
with a male neighbor,
Gene Ennis, who said he
went outside at about
7:15 a.m. to walk his
dog. Ennis said he spot
ted Sellers walking in
the neighborhood. He
said Sellers approached
him talking recklessly,
and he saw Sellers
was carrying a small
handgun. Ennis said
he walked back to his
home and closed the
garage, but Sellers con
tinued to approach him.
Ennis said once inside
his home, Sellers came
to his door and began
knocking on it. Ennis
said when he did not
open his door, Sellers
went to another neigh
bor’s yard.
Another male neigh
bor, Johnny Jones, said
he heard a knock on his
door early in the morn
ing. Jones said when he
went to answer it, he
saw Sellers at his door
holding a gun. Jones
said he asked Sellers
to leave at which point
Sellers began yelling
erratically. Jones said
when he again instruct
ed Sellers to leave, he
did, but Sellers eventu
ally came back to Jones’
home to a side window.
Jones said when he
called 9-1-1, Sellers left.
Sellers’ handgun, a 9
mm, was also taken into
evidence.
