Valentine’s Day Special
TWO CAN DINE FOR

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14
Six more weeks of WMM
On Friday morning
at 7:30 a.m. General
Beauregard Lee made
his first prediction about
the end of winter from
his new home at Dauset.
Trails, just a couple of
miles north of the Monroe
County line.
It wasn’t the forecast of
“an early spring around
the corner” for which
most of his fans had
hoped, but when you’re
a respected prophet, you
have to tell it like you
see it.
Lee stepped out of his
new door and couldn’t
avoid the bright sunny
morning and the shad
ows it cast. Reportedly
he waved to the media
and the faithful follow
ers who had gathered in
just-above-freezing tem
peratures, savored his
hot Waffle House hash
browns and headed back
inside his freshly painted
new home to wait out the
rest of winter.
Although disappointed
with the forecast, those
who came out to hear
it were glad they made
the trip. Waffle House
provided coffee and hot
chocolate for the crowd,
and Dauset Trails Nature
Center gave out memento
buttons with Lee’s pic
ture and awarded prizes
in a Groundhog Trivia
Contest. And it seemed
that, many of the onlook
ers enjoyed seeing one
another almost as much
as they did Lee, who
appeared a bit slender
after months of living on
the reserves he stored up
before he retired for his
winter slumber.
After it warms up a bit,
visitors can see Lee at
his new home at Dauset
Trails any day from 9
a.m.-5 p.m. They can also
follow him on Twitter.
(It was reported he has
had a little help posting
on his account from a
new teenage friend, espe
cially while he was still
so sleepy.) (Photo/Rosey

Ala. pair survives wreck
An Alabama woman and her passenger appear to have survived a violent wreck on 1-75
south last Wednesday morning, Jan. 31. Georgetta Jackson, 61, of Pike Road, Ala. was driving
south in her 2000 Honda Accord in the left hand lane of I-75 near Pate Road when she veered
to the right, left the right shoulder and struck a tree around 8:10 a.m. Witness Lisa Bennett
said the Honda never appeared to slow down. Jackson and her passenger, Dameon Ever-
ette, 47, of Atlanta, were injured and taken by Monroe County EMS ambulance to Navicent
Health. Bennett said both were conscious as first responders worked to free them from the
vehicle. (Special to the Reporter)
