The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love - Psalm 33:5
INCIDENT REPORTS
The following incidents were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs Office Jan. 26-Feb. 7.
Driver charged
with giving fake
name, date-of-
birth to deputy
A 22-year-old black
Byron man was arrested
and charged with giving
a false name and date of
birth to a Monroe County
deputy during a traffic
stop on 1-75 South on
Feb. 6. At about 11:43
a.m., Dep. Jacob Robins
saw a black 2000 Nissan
Maxima with suspended
registration traveling
on 1-75 South near mile
marker 188. The male
driver told Robins his
license and credit cards
had been stolen, so he
didn’t have an ID. The
driver then gave Robins
a fake name and date
of birth, and dispatch
ers could not determine
the driver’s identity. The
driver then told Robins
he was lying about his
license being stolen and
said he had never had a
license. The driver then
gave Robins three more
fake names before admit
ting his real name. Dep.
Thomas Haskins then
searched the driver’s
car and found a small
amount of marijuana
hidden in a cigarillo
pouch. While en route
to the Monroe County
Jail, the driver told
Robins he didn’t want
to give his real name
because he was wanted
out of Houston County.
Dispatchers then deter
mined the driver had a
suspended license and
was also wanted by the
Warner Robins Police
Department. The driver
was also charged with
having suspended regis
tration, driving on a sus
pended license. Robins
gave the driver a warn
ing for the marijuana.
Man arrested
after installing
spikes on Pea
Ridge driveway
A 56-year-old white
Forsyth man was
arrested after an incident
in which he allegedly
put spike strips down
on a Pea Ridge Road
driveway on Feb. 7. At
about 2 p.m., Dep. Cody
Maples went to a Pea
Ridge Road home where
a male resident said he
had been using his neigh
bor’s vacant driveway
to turn around so that
he could check his mail
box without exiting his
vehicle. The resident said
the driveway does not
lead to anywhere on the
neighbor’s property and
only serves as a property
line border. The resident
said when he used the
driveway on Feb. 7, he
ran over two makeshift
spike strips. The resident
said the strips were two
pieces of wood with sev
eral nails hammered in,
and they had been placed
on the county’s right-of-
way within 40 feet of the
center of the road. The
resident said the strips
caused damage to both
of the front tires on his
purple 2007 Chevrolet
Silverado, damage the
resident valued at about
$1,500. Maples then mea
sured the strips as being
27 feet, 9 inches from
the right shoulder of the
road. Maples then met
with another male neigh
bor who was standing in
the doorway of a camper
on the back of his prop
erty. The other neighbor
told Maples he was the
one who put the pieces
of wood on the drive
way and asked Maples:
“What’s it to you?”
Maples told the other
neighbor that the strips
were illegal and reck
less. The other neighbor
then told Maples that
someone had been park
ing on the vacant lot and
stealing things from the
property, but he had not
reported the incidents
to the sheriffs office.
The other neighbor then
became angry and bel
ligerent at which point
Maples determined the
other neighbor had an
active arrest warrant for
driving on a suspended
license. While en route
to the Monroe County
Jail, the other neighbor
admitted to Maples that
he did not have permis
sion from the property
owner to put the strips
on the driveway.
Oxford driver
arrested after
deputies find
pills in vehicle
A 29-year-old black
Oxford man was arrested
and charged with pos
session of illegal drugs
after Monroe County
deputies found Xanax
tablets in his vehicle
during a traffic stop on
1-75 South on Feb. 5. At
about 8:12 a.m., Dep.
Thomas Haskins saw a
silver 2006 Cadillac DTS
fail to maintain its lane
on 1-75 South near mile
marker 190. Haskins saw
the vehicle had severe
damage to its front and
left sides, and he smelled
raw marijuana coming
from inside the vehicle.
The male driver smelled
strongly of alcohol and
revealed he had a hand
gun on his waistband.
However, when Haskins
searched the driver,
he didn’t find a gun at
which point the driver
said he “might” have left
it in his vehicle. Haskins
found a prescription pill
bottle without a label in
the driver’s front right
pants pocket that con
tained a large number of
Xanax tablets. The driver
told Haskins the pills
belonged to his brother.
The driver, who said he
had last consumed alco
hol the previous night,
passed several field
sobriety tests. Cpl. Kevin
Powell then searched
the vehicle and found a
Clock 20 10 mm. hand
gun and two fully loaded
magazines. He also found
a marijuana cigarette
which had been par
tially burned. Haskins
then took the driver
to the Monroe County
Jail, where he was also
charged with possession
of a firearm during the
commission of a felony,
drugs not in original con
tainer, failure to main
tain lane, possession of
marijuana and having no
license on person.
Teagle Road
runner reports
dog bite on
thigh on Feb. 3
At about 7:36 a.m. on
Feb. 3, a male Andrew
Court resident told Dep.
Robert. Rodgers he was
running on Teagle Road
when a black dog ran
into the road and bit
him on the right thigh.
Rodgers photographed
the resident’s injuries
and met with the dog’s
female owner, who said
the dog belongs to her
son and she was unsure
if the dog had an updat
ed rabies shot. Monroe
County Animal Control
then quarantined the
dog.
