INCIDENT REPORTS
The following incidents were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs Office Jan. 26-Feb. 11.
Woman charged
with DUI after
falling asleep at
Rumble Road BP
A 45-year-old white
Fort Valley woman was
arrested and charged
with DUI after a traffic
stop at the BP gas station
on Rumble Road on Feb.
9. At about 3:16 p.m.,
Dep. Thomas Flaskins
was dispatched to the
Rumble Road BP station
about a female driver who
was passed out behind
the wheel of a red 2005
Toyota Flighlander at a
gas pump. Two Monroe
County EMTs told
Flaskins that when they
arrived at the station
they saw the vehicle was
stopped at a pump with
the gear in reverse with
the female driver passed
out in the driver’s seat.
A male EMT said he had
to beat on the vehicle’s
window very loudly to
wake up the driver. The
EMT asked the driver
where she was going, but
he didn’t think her story
made sense. Dispatchers
then notified Flaskins
that the driver’s license
was suspended, and he
smelled a strong odor of
marijuana coming from
inside the vehicle. The
driver told Flaskins she
was coming from her
home in Fort Valley and
was headed to a friend’s
home on Zebulon Road.
Flaskins asked the driver
if she was aware she had
missed her exit, and she
said she “thought” she
had missed it. The driver,
whose eyes were red
and whose speech was
slurred, said she didn’t
realize how tired she was
until she fell asleep. The
driver then denied having
consumed any alcohol but
admitted to taking 300
mg. of an antidepressant
medication earlier in the
day. The driver said her
doctor recently doubled
her medication dosage,
and she said it caused
her to feel tired and
strange. The driver then
failed several field sobri
ety tests. Flaskins found
inside the driver’s purse a
small plastic bag contain
ing suspected heroin, a
small plastic bag contain
ing suspected metham-
phetamine, three plastic
bags containing raw
marijuana and a match
box containing additional
raw marijuana. Flaskins
also found three prescrip
tion medicine bottles for
Oxycodone, Alprazolam
and an amphetamine.
Inside the amphetamine
bottle, Flaskins found
there were two different
types of pills. The driver
denied having any heroin,
saying she had never
before seen heroin. The
driver said the substance
was “possibly” meth-
amphetamine. Flaskins
then took the driver
to the Monroe County
Jail, where she was also
charged with possession
of illegal drugs, posses
sion of marijuana, drugs
not in original container
and driving while license
suspended.
Forsyth driver
charged with
DUI after wreck
on Hwy. 41 South
A 36-year-old white
Forsyth man was arrest
ed and charged with DUI
after a one-vehicle wreck
on Hwy. 41 on Feb. 10.
At about 8:38 p.m., Dep.
Perry Fitzgerald went
to Hwy. 41 near Hill
Road about a black 2001
Chevrolet Silverado that
had run off the road.
The male driver, who
had difficulty removing
his license from his wal
let, said he was headed
northbound when he lost
control of his truck and
ran off the road into a
ditch. The driver, who
smelled of alcohol, told
Monroe County EMTs
he was okay but that he
was just upset about his
truck. The driver then
admitted to having con
sumed one 16-ounce Ice
House beer about 10 min
utes prior to the wreck.
The driver then tested
positive for more than
the legal limit of alcohol
on a field breath test
and failed several field
sobriety tests. Fitzgerald
then took the driver to
the Monroe County Jail,
where he also tested
positive for more than the
legal limit of alcohol on
a state breath test. The
driver was also charged
with failure to maintain
lane.
Lakeshore Drive
resident reports
theft of antique
anvil from yard
At about 1:37 p.m. on
Feb. 11, a Lakeshore
Drive woman told Dep.
Jacob Robins that her
husband’s antique anvil
was stolen from their
yard underneath a large
oak tree. The woman
said she had not noticed
the anvil in her yard
since Feb. 4, and her
son discovered it miss
ing when he came over
on Feb. 10. The woman’s
husband said the anvil is
antique and has been in
his family since he was
a young child. He said
the anvil weighed about
360 pounds, was about
two-and-a-half feet long
and about one-and-a-half
feet tall. The woman said
she and her husband had
been home every day of
the past week except for
Feb. 7 and had not seen
anyone suspicious.
Colvin Road
resident reports
tools stolen from
shop on Feb. 10
At about 9:45 p.m. on
Feb. 10, a male Colvin
Road resident told Sgt..
Willie Brown someone had
entered his shop and sto
len numerous tools some
time between Jan. 24 and
Feb. 10. The resident said
the stolen tools included:
a red Troybilt. weed eater,
a gray skill circular saw
with a seven-and-one-
fourth inch blade, a green
and gray Ryobi cordless
18-volt, drill, an orange
Ridgid impact driver, an
orange Ridgid saw sail and
a yellow Dewalt electric
saw sail. The stolen items
were valued at about $856.
Man arrested
after allegedly
cursing at child
at Hwy. 87 home
A 51-year-old white
Juliette man was arrested
and charged with dis
orderly conduct after a
domestic dispute at a
Hwy. 87 home on Feb.
6. At about 9:26 p.m.
on Feb. 6, Dep. Perry
Fitzgerald went to a Hwy.
87 home, where a female
resident said her boy
friend had been cursing
at her and her 11-year-old
grandson while he had
been drinking alcohol.
Fitzgerald saw the boy
friend standing on the
front porch yelling and
cursing at the resident
about the grandson and
about her calling the
sheriffs office. The female
resident then showed
Fitzgerald a video she
had made of her boyfriend
yelling and cursing at her
grandson. Fitzgerald then
asked the boyfriend to
give his side of the story,
but the boyfriend refused
to speak with him and
instead asked for his law
yer. The boyfriend then
told Fitzgerald: “Monroe
County deputies are a
bunch of f- crooks, and
I’m not saying anything
to you.” Fitzgerald then
told the boyfriend that if
he refused to answer his
questions, then he would
be arrested. The boy
friend then said he wasn’t
going anywhere at which
point Fitzgerald took him
to the Monroe County
Jail.
County waste
management
employee spots
illegal dumping
At about 2:45 p.m. on
Feb. 9, Dep. Cody Maples
went to a vacant gas
station on Rumble Road
about illegal dumping. A
female Monroe County
waste management
employee told Maples she
was notified by several
of her workers about a
red Dodge pickup truck
with a Kentucky license
plate backing up to the
edge of the woods at the
vacant lot and the driver
throwing several pieces
of trash out. A male
waste management
employee told Maples
the driver was a white
male with dark hair and
a mustache. The male
employee said when he
met with the driver, the
driver became nervous
and told him he needed
to throw some things out
because he was headed
to Florida. The male
employee said the driver
threw out a blanket,
several pieces of cloth
ing and an empty box.
Maples saw the box had
a FedEx return address
label with a man’s name,
the name of a hospital
and a Campbellsville,
Ky. address. Maples
later determined the
truck belonged to a
Campbellsville, Ky. man.
