TAKING A LIKENS by Dale Likens
Hey Lebron: Just play ball, OK?
L ebron James. Who can
deny his ability to play
basketball? His rise from
his early high school days
in Akron, Ohio to his
undeniable fame as the number one
professional basketball player in the
U.S.A. is indisputable.
As a high school freshman James
averaged 18.0 points per game. In
his sophomore year his average rose
to 25.3 points per game,
followed by 28.0 points per
game as a junior and 30.4
points per game in his final
year for the St. Vincent-St.
Mary High School bas
ketball team in Akron. As
a high school basketball
player James became the
number one draft, pick for
the professional Cleveland
Cavaliers, signing an
unprecedented $90 million endorse
ment contract with the Nike shoe
company before he ever played a
professional game. Quite an accom
plishment, indeed!
In the 2003-04 season, James
made history when he became the
first, member of the Cavaliers to
become rookie of the year at. the
age of 20. James definitely wants it.
known that, he did graduate from
high school. He earned his high
school diploma and is indeed grate
ful for what. St.Vincent-St. Mary
High School has done to promote
his rise to stardom. To show his
deep appreciation he recently pre
sented his old high school with a
check for $1 million to renovate the
gymnasium where he once drew
thousands of fans throughout, his
illustrious, incredible years of bas
ketball.
Like many other young black men
and women of America, James rose
above his poverty to reach heights
unknown to most, of us. For these
incredible fetes of accomplishments,
I give a sincere praise to each and
every one, black or white, who
has driven himself/herself to such
incredible heights. Praise God!
My question today is not. about.
James’ rise from poverty or his
innate ability toplay basketball.
My question is, “Why does Lebron
James have such a deep hatred and
disrespect for our president, of the
United States of America?”
Recently, Lebron James and
Kevin Durant, (another well-known
black professional basketball
player) videotaped a conver
sation where Lebron used
the “F-word” to describe
our president.; not. once, but.
many times.
“It’s not. even a surprise
when he (President. Trump)
says something! It’s laugh
able! It’s scary! He never
should have been put. in
office!” Lebron bemoans.
Laura Ingraham (Fox
News commentator) got. wind of
this video and is quoted as saying,
‘Must, they (athletes) run their
mouths like that? Unfortunately, a
lot. of kids-and some adults-take
these ignorant, comments seriously.
And it’s always unwise to take polit
ical advice from someone who gets
paid $100 million a year to bounce
a ball!”
‘T thought, her comments were
racist!” Lebron responded quickly.
“Racist?” Is he for real?
The argument, goes on and on. I
guess it. will never end. But. now, I
must, throw my two cents into the
argument.. I’m not. as fortunate in
regards to having a large platform
to speak on as professional athletes
and professional actors, but I am
a voter. I love America and I still
believe we should show respect, for
our country and our president..
I am also a great, basketball fan.
I love watching athletes do some
thing I can only dream of doing. I
did enjoy watching Lebron. He is a
tremendous basketball player and
was once one of my favorites. I am,
however, very concerned about, his
negative attitude when he speaks
of our current, president.. I believe
President. Trump is one of the great
est. presidents we have ever had in
regards to helping black people. I
believe his concern for black people
is true. Many black people will
agree with what. I say.
A small note to you, Lebron. The
black unemployment, rate is now
at. its lowest, in 17 years. When you
are speaking to young people, as I
know you do, try telling them about,
the positive things in America.
Tell them about, your courageous
and loving mother who reared
you through those difficult, times
in your early life. Meet, with other
black people such as Niger Innis,
and Burgess Owens (another great,
athlete) who love America and work
to improve America. Give Dr. Ben
Carson, MD a phone call some day.
I’m sure he would be honored to
hear from you. And since you play
for the Cleveland Cavaliers may I
suggest you visit, one of my favorite
pastors named Mark Bums, from
Cleveland, Ohio.
Bums is a black pastor who hap
pens to support. President. Trump
and rallies around his love for our
country - not. hate. I have person
ally met Pastor Bums and found
him to be an astounding person; a
true Christian who cares deeply for
America. I am sure you would love
him sincerely as my wife and I do.
President. Trump is certainly not.
a racist., Lebron, and he does not.
deserve the “F-word” disrespectfully
thrown in front, of his name. I do
wonder, however, what, you would
say if the roles were reversed and
someone were to speak of our last,
president, the same as you do about.
President. Trump. I can only imag
ine!
Until then, do as Laura Ingraham
recently said, “Just, dribble the bas
ketball!”
God bless!

UNFAIR AND UNBALANCED by Marilyn Langford
A Message from God:
C hildren, I have been deluged
with your prayers for help
with the mass murders in your
country. I hear you! I want, to
save you, but. you are unwilling.
I gave you a brain to reason, but. you are
unwilling to take action. My number one
rule is, ‘Thou shall not. kill.” That, includes
being complicit. with those that, are accom
plices in killing. You plead in your prayers
to me, ‘Do something!” I say to you, I have
given you free will, so YOU must, be the
one to do something.
IN 2007,1 gave you the Virginia Tech
shooting. 32 dead! The only result, was
less gun control. Many states voted to
allow open carry of weapons on cam
puses.
SO, I GAVE you Rep. Gabby Giffords,
in 2011. She was wounded and six were
killed. She has dedicated the rest, of her
life to anti-gun violence causes, especially
against, high capacity magazines. While
her efforts and those that, support, her
have been noble, she has been out-spent
by the NRA, 7-1. Well done, Gabby, my
child.
THROUGHOUT modem times, as
guns have become more popular, I have
sent, you many signs. There have been
murders at. shopping malls, spas, supermarkets, facto
ries, churches, movie theaters, military bases, elemen
tary schools, universities and high schools. I heard
your prayers but. I saw no action taken to prevent, this
from happening again.
THEN THERE was Sandy Hook
Elementary school in Newtown,
Connecticut, in 2012. 20 elementary students and six
teachers were killed. Yet., you were not. phased. Talk,
talk, is all you did. These were kindergartners! OMS
(Oh my self!)
IN 1981,1 sent, you the attempted assassination of
President. Reagan. I sent, you James Brady, Reagan’s
press secretary. He was shot., suffered brain damage,
and was permanently disabled. Thereafter, James
Brady was a man with a purpose. He worked tire
lessly for gun control and for a ban on assault, weap
ons. He advocated for a law, called the Brady Bill, that,
banned the sale of assault weapons and mandated
national background checks. The Bill also contained
a 5-day waiting period to take possession of the pur
chased gun. However, this was dropped to pacify the
powerful National Rifle Association (NRA). The Law
had a 10-year expiration and was not. renewed due to
the pressure on legislators by the NRA. Mass shoot
ings were greatly reduced. Assault rifles have flour
ished since, and so have mass murders. Incidentally,
the reason given was that, statistics showed few
crimes were committed with assault rifles. Well, duh!
They were banned for the past. 10 years! Sometimes I
think when I was handing out. “brains,” some people
thought. I said, “rain” and ran away.”
MEANWHILE, the NRA flourished and bought,
more and more elected officials. I lost, count, of all the
prayers I got.. In 2015, in Charleston, S.C., I gave you
the shooting at. the historic Black church. Nine were
killed. The President, cried. Again, nothing was done.
IN 2016, 49 were killed and 53 injured at. the
LBGQT Pulse Night. Club in Orlando. YOU did noth
ing—less than nothing. I wasn’t, even over-whelmed
with prayers. Las Vegas outdoor concert., 58 killed and
500 injured. Legislation was introduced to ban bump
stocks that, turn semiautomatic rifles into automatic.
When talk died down, so did the legislation.
NOW WE have Mary Stoneman Douglas High
School. 17 killed! These students are the hope of your
nation. They don’t, care what, political party you are
in—they just want, meaningful, sensible gun control.
They have a purpose! They can’t, be bought.. They
understand the root, cause of the problem and will
demand action. Your President, and the NRA want, to
arm school teachers as a “fix” for these killings. Take
it. from one who knows, that, is a lame-brain idea!
I GAVE YOU the Columbine High School shoot
ing in 1999.1 thought, this would wake everyone up
to the gun problem. Instead, there was lots of debate
and everyone played the “blame game.” Nothing was
done except, to ask me to do something. I heard you,
but. please! No more prayers asking me to protect, your
second amendment, rights.
Love one another.
