A Barnesville couple
faces animal cruelty
charges after authori
ties found 17 dogs, a
dead cat and five cocka
toos crammed into the
minivan in which they
lived during an 1-75
traffic stop.
Sgt. Chad Beck pulled
over a 1999 Honda
Odyssey on 1-75 around
11:34 a.m. on Friday,
Feb. 23 for a traffic
violation. An incident
report said that. Beck
Billy Boyt Lori Boyt
was “dis
gusted” by what he
found inside. He dis
covered the animals in
the back where seats
had been removed, with
feces littering the entire
van. Here’s what else
the report said: There
was no food or water
for the animals, and
the dead cat was found
inside a crate.
The driver, Billy
Eugene Boyt, 49, of
Barnesville, told Beck
that, he was an out-of-
work forester, and he
and his wife had fallen
on hard times and were
both addicted to metha
done. He said he only
owned one of the dogs,
a bulldog covered in
sores, and his wife took

Monroe County deputies reported finding animal feces
covering the back of this van as well as 23 dogs, birds and a
dead cat. Deputies charged the couple inside with animal

in the preseason polls, will
open its 2018 season at. home

Some Monroe County
school board incumbents
will face opposition in the
May 22 election.
Long-time incumbent,
school board member
Nolen Howard, cur
rently the chairman, has
qualified for re-election
in District 5 but. he has
a challenger in Matt
Morris. Morris will
have five children in the
school system in August.
Howard works in the
transportation industry.
Meanwhile, another
long-time incumbent.,
board member Phil
Walker, has qualified for
District. 3 as has his chal
lenger, Greg Head, owner
of Head Heating and Air.
Two other school board
members facing re-
election this year, Eva
Bilderback (District 7)
and J.R Evans (District
1), had not. qualified as
of Tuesday but. no chal
lengers have qualified for
either post. yet. either.
Meanwhile, in the races
for Monroe County com
missioner, only District.
3 commissioner John
Ambrose has quali
fied. District 4 commis
sioner George Emami is
expected to qualify later
this week. No challenger
has announced plans
