INCIDENT REPORTS . APRIL 11, 2018
The following incidents were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs Office March 28-April 5.
Monroe deputies
use PIT maneuver
on truck during
high-speed chase
A 31-year-old white
Dunwoody man faces
a charge of fleeing or
attempting to elude after
a high-speed chase ended
on 1-75 North in Monroe
County on April 5. At
about 10:40 p.m., Sgt. Kirk
Seckinger was notified by
dispatchers of a blue 1995
Chevrolet C1500 work
truck without headlights
being chased by Macon-
Bibb County deputies
on 1-75 North. Seckinger
caught up to the truck near
mile marker 182 and fol
lowed the truck at 92 mph.
Just prior to mile marker
183, Seckinger used a PIT
maneuver, causing the
truck to veer left, crash into
the center wall and over
turn. Dep. Robert Rodgers
then assisted the trucks
male driver out of the
wrecked truck and hand
cuffed him. Macon-Bibb
deputies found two pistols,
including one stolen, and
ammunition inside the
truck. Monroe County
EMTs then took the driver
to Macon’s Medical Center
Navicent Health, and the
driver was determined to
have three outstanding
arrest warrants in three
different jurisdictions. The
driver will also be charged
with speeding, operating
without headlights after
sunset and having no seat
belt.
Ford Escape driver
charged with DUI
after two-vehicle
wreck on 1-75 N.
A 63-year-old white
Macon woman was arrest
ed and charged with DUI
after a two-vehicle wreck
on 1-75 North on March
28. At about 12 p.m., Dep.
Cody Maples went to 1-75
North near mile marker
185 about a two-vehicle
wreck. The male driver of
a tractor trailer told Maples
he was headed northbound
when his truck was hit
by a 2006 Ford Escape.
The truck driver said the
Escapes female driver
refused to pull over after
hitting his truck. Maples
then saw the Escape driver
standing at the bottom
of a nearby hill. Maples
noticed the Escape drivers
speech was mumbled
and unintelligible and she
nearly fell while climbing
up the small hill. When
the Escape driver, who
had puffy, bloodshot eyes,
returned to her SUV, she
nearly fell asleep in the
passenger seat. The Escape
driver told Maples she had
to get something out of her
passenger compartment
so she used her left hand,
on which she had recently
had surgery, to drive. The
Escape driver said she sud
denly had a sharp pain in
her hand, causing her to
drift into the tractor trailer.
The driver, who denied
drinking alcohol prior to
the wreck, admitted to
taking several prescription
medications, including
Xanax. The driver then
failed several field sobriety
tests. Once at the Monroe
County Jail, the driver sub
mitted a urine sample. The
driver was also charged
with failure to maintain
lane.
Man charged with
possession of pot
with intent to sell
after 1-75 S. stop
A 36-year-old black
Macon man was arrested
and charged with posses
sion of marijuana with
intent to distribute after a
traffic stop on 1-75 South
on March 29. At about 9:28
p.m„ Cpl. John Thompson
saw a black 2003 Honda
Accord with very dark
tinted windows that was
traveling very slowly in
the middle lane of 1-75
South near mile marker
191. Thompson stopped
the car at the exit ramp
at Exit 188 and asked the
male driver where he was
coming from. The driver,
whose hands were shak
ing, said he had picked up
his friend, a female pas
senger who was the car’s
owner, for work and was
headed home to Macon.
Thompson smelled a faint
odor of marijuana inside
the car and asked the driver
about it. The driver said he
had not smoked inside the
car but might have been
around marijuana earlier
in the day. Thompson and
Sgt. Kemeyan Colvard
then searched the car and
found a trash bag on the
back seat. The trash bag
contained four large bags of
marijuana, which the driv
er said was his. The driver
was then taken to the
Monroe County Jail, where
he was also charged with a
window tint violation.
Man arrested for
grabbing wife’s
hair, throwing cats
during dispute
A 35-year-old white
Juliette man was arrested
and charged with simple
battery and third degree
cruelty to children after
a domestic dispute at a
Taylor Road home on April
5. At about 11:15 p.m. on
April 5, a female Taylor
Road resident told Cpl.
Thomas Haskins and Dep.
Robert Rodgers that she
and her husband had got
ten into an argument after
her husband had gotten
upset with their 10-year-
old daughter. The female
resident said their daughter
accidentally hit her hus
band with a vehicle door,
and he wanted to whip
their daughter with a belt.
The resident said DFCS
had been involved with
their family in the past, and
she didn’t want her hus
band to whip their daugh
ter for something that
happened by accident. The
resident said their daughter
was scared of her father
and ran into the bathroom
and locked herself inside of
it. The resident said when
she then told her husband
that he wasn’t going to
whip their daughter, he
became upset and threw
two of her cats, one down
the hall and the other into
a table. The resident said
she then confronted her
husband about throwing
the cats, and he began curs
ing at her. She said he then
grabbed her hair, threw her
onto the bed and pinned
her down so she couldn’t
get up, all in front of their
10-year-old daughter and
8-year-old son. The resi
dent said she eventually got
up but said her husband
then “came at her” again.
She said in response she
picked up a walking cane
and hit her husband in the
head with it. She said when
he continued to attack her,
she hit him in the head
with the cane a second
time. The resident said
her husband then ripped
the cane out of her hand,
and in the process of fight
ing over it the cane also
hit their daughter in the
head. The resident said her
husband then threw the
cane into a TV, breaking
the screen. As the resident
called 9-1-1, she said her
husband continued throw
ing things at her, including
her purse, and cursing
at her. The resident said
when she told her husband
that deputies were on the
way, he then went into his
bedroom and said he was
having a seizure. Haskins
then met with the husband,
who was lying in bed with
a bleeding cut on the right
side of his head. Haskins,
who saw the husband was
having trouble communi
cating and was slurring his
words, then called Monroe
County EMTs to the scene.
The husband told Haskins
that his daughter hit him
with the car door and said
he wanted to whip his
daughter in response. The
husband said the resident
got mad at him and hit
him several times with
the walking cane “for no
reason.” Haskins then met
with the daughter, who
said she accidentally hit
her father with the door,
making him mad. She said
she then ran into the bath
room and locked the door.
Both the son and daughter
said their father got mad
and threw the cats before
grabbing their mother and
holding her down. The
children said their mother
then hit their father in the
head with a walking cane
because he kept coming
after her while yelling “bad
words.” EMTs then deter
mined that the husband
was not actually having a
seizure, and the resident
said she believed he was
“exaggerating.” Haskins
then took the husband to
Monroe County Hospital,
where he was treated and
released, before taking him
to the Monroe County Jail.
