MP tennis teams to pursue region titles at John Drew on Thursday
By Richard Dumas
forsyth@mymcrnet'
The Mary Persons boys and girls ten
nis teams will next compete in the Region
2-AAAA semifinals starting at noon on
Thursday at John Drew Smith Tennis Center
in Macon. If the MP squads win their semi
final matches, they would move on to the
championship matches beginning at 2 p.m.
on Thursday at John Drew. If the MP teams
lose their semifinal matches, they would still
compete in a consolation match at 2 p.m. on
Thursday for state playoff seeding purposes.
By virtue of their second place finishes in the
regular season region standings, both MP
tennis teams are already guaranteed spots
in the AAAA state playoffs, which are set to
begin next week If either MP team reached
the region championship finals, it would
assure the Bulldogs of hosting a first-round
state playoff match.
Meanwhile, the Mary Persons boys and
girls golf teams will next compete in the sec
ond annual 18-hole Brickyard Invitational
tournament at The Brickyard Golf Club in
south Monroe County at 3 p.m. on Monday,
April 16.

At about 12:07 a.m., Dep.
Jacob Robins saw a black
2014 GMC Envoy speed
ing and failing to maintain
its lane on 1-75 North near
mile marker 188. Robins
tried to stop the vehicle,
but it continued north
bound at speeds in excess
of 80 mph. The vehicle
finally stopped in the grass
at the Exit 193 ramp, and
Robins ran to the drivers
side door with his weapon.
Robins ordered the male
driver to show his hands,
and the driver complied.
Robins then removed the
driver from the vehicle
and handcuffed him on
the ground. Dep. Timothy
Campfield, who found an
open Budweiser beer can
in the vehicles cupholder,
then asked the driver
how much he had had to
drink. The driver said he
just bought the beer at the
Valero gas station on North
Lee Street and insisted that
was the only alcohol he had
consumed. When Robins
asked the driver why he
had failed to stop, the
driver said he didn’t know
the deputy was behind
him and said he was play
ing music so loud that he
couldn’t hear Robins’ siren.
Robins then took the driver
to the Monroe County Jail,
where he was also charged
with failure to use a turn

April 3, a female Buck

Sgt. Kemeyan Colvard she
found her boyfriend unre

The resident said she last
saw her boyfriend at about
6 a.m. that morning. The
resident said she returned
home at about 4 p.m. but
did not discover her boy

at which point she called
9-1-1. The resident said
she did not know exactly
what her boyfriend’s medi

believed he had kidney,
brain and lung cancer. The
resident said her boyfriend
was also a heavy drinker
and smoker, and the boy
friend’s brother said he was
also a heroin user. Colvard
found the boyfriend lying
with his face on the floor
and blood was located near
the entrance to the bath

head was lying. Colvard
saw the boyfriend’s pants
and underwear were pulled
down near his thighs, and a
needle was located under

was deceased, and the case
was turned over to Inv.

Hwy. 41 South
resident reports
theft of $1,800 in
jewelry on April 1
At about 10:29 p.m. on
April 1, a female Hwy. 41
South resident told Cpl.
Thomas Haskins she had
been letting a male friend
stay at her home, but her
friend was recently arrested
in Toombs County for
credit card fraud. The resi
dent said she had planned
on bonding her friend out
of jail but had discovered
while moving some of his
belongings three pawn
receipts for various types
of jewelry. The resident
said she then inspected
the receipts more carefully
and realized the jewelry
that was pawned belonged
to her. The resident said
she then looked inside her
jewelry box and discov
ered she was missing her
Mary Persons class ring,
a Waterfall diamond ring,
two gold wedding bands,
a gold bracelet and her
mother’s red stone ring.
The stolen items were
valued at about $1,800.
The resident then showed
Haskins the receipts,
which were from Howard’s
Pawn and Jewelry and A1
Action Cash. The receipts
had the friend’s name and
driver’s license number on
them. The resident said
she thinks her friend is still
incarcerated in Toombs

arrested after
family feud leads
to fight on April 2
A 28-year-old black
woman, a 5 5-year-old black
woman and a 26-year-
old black woman, all of
Forsyth, were each arrested
and charged with affray
after a fight at a Frontage
Road home on April 2.
At about 10:04 p.m., a
Forsyth woman told Cpl.
John Thompson she was
at her boyfriend’s Frontage
Road home when she was
assaulted. Thompson saw
scratches on the woman’s
neck and face, as well as
blood around her nose.
The woman said her boy
friend’s sister and niece
both arrived at her boy
friend’s home and began
questioning her about her
dating her boyfriend. The
woman said her boyfriend’s
sister put her hands in her
face while telling her she
didn’t need to be dating
her boyfriend, who is 35
years older than her. The
woman said her boyfriend’s
sister said she thinks she
is only dating her brother
for his money. The woman
said her boyfriend’s sister
eventually took a swing
at her and said her boy
friend’s niece then got out
of a vehicle and began
fighting with her as well.
The woman said both she
and her two attackers all
threw punches, pulled hair
and scratched each other.
Thompson then met with
the boyfriend’s sister who
said the woman swung first
at which point she fought
back but didn’t remember
specifically what had hap
pened. The boyfriend’s
niece told Thompson she
saw the woman hitting her
mother, so she jumped out
of the vehicle and began
hitting the woman to pro
tect her mother. Thompson
then arrested both the
boyfriend’s sister and boy
friend’s niece. The woman,
the 28-year-old, then went
to get medical treatment
for her nose and promised
to turn herself in for arrest
as well after her hospital

Forsyth woman was arrest

battery after a dispute over
cherries at a Mayfield Road

resident said her roommate
then grabbed the baking

began to yell at her. The
resident said she tried to
take the baking dish from
her roommate when her
roommate kicked her in
the stomach and scratched
her. A male witness said
he heard arguing coming
from the kitchen and went
to see what was going on.
The witness said he saw the
roommate kick and scratch
at the resident, so he sepa
rated them and took the
resident to a bedroom. The
roommate told Ortiz she
was very upset because she
saw the resident baking a
pie using her canned cher
ries. The roommate said
she went to the oven and
took them out because the
resident did not ask for
permission to use the cher
ries. The roommate said
the resident began to walk
toward her at which point
she kicked the resident in
the stomach and clawed
at her chest to keep her
from taking her cherries
back. Ortiz then took the

there was any way to keep
him from searching his

had probable cause due to
the smell. A female back
seat passenger gave Brown
a fake name, but Officer
Kimberly Barnett of the
Forsyth Police Department
found the back seat pas
senger’s ID tucked into
her bra with her real name
on it. Dispatchers then
determined the back seat
passenger had an arrest
warrant out of Saginaw,
Mich for the intent to
commit murder. A female
front seat passenger told
Cpl. John Thompson she
had a bag of marijuana in
her bra, which the driver

Old Rumble Road
resident reports
son bitten by pit
bull on March 30
At about 6:42 p.m. on
March 30, a male Old
Rumble Road resident
told Sgt. Kirk Seckinger
that his female neighbor’s
medium-sized brown pit
bull bit his 11-year-old
son while he played in
their field. The resident
said the field adjoins his
neighbor’s property and
said the dog was not con
tained. Seckinger saw the
son had injuries to his left
leg calf muscle, and he was
taken for medical attention.
Seckinger then went to the
neighbor’s home, where the
pit bull rushed him in an
aggressive manner with a
broken cable restraint drag
ging behind him. Seckinger
used an audible device
to repel the dog when he
rushed him a second time.
Seckinger then met with
the neighbor, who said she
was not sure if her dog was
up to date on his shots.
A male Monroe County
Animal Control officer told
the neighbor she had until
April 2 to find her paper
work about the dog and to
contain the dog effectively.
