Taylors
celebrate
60 years
R obert and Sally Taylor were
married on April 19,1958 at a
United Methodist Church in Rock
Island, Illinois. Now, as they cel
ebrate their 60th anniversary, they
live in a rural area of Monroe Coun
ty where they can watch horses and
cows graze across the street.
Robert said the couple left Illinois
when there was snow on the ground
and it felt 22 degrees below zero
and moved to Perry, GA to open
a trucking company that handled
Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. That was in
1977, and they lived in Perry until
moving to Monroe County in about
2004.
The Taylors, both of whom were
only children, raised two sons
and one daughter and have three
grandchildren. One son lives near
them, the other lives in Perry and
the daughter lives in Oklahoma.
The Taylors renewed their wedding
vows on their 40th anniversary in
a beautiful ceremony on a lake in
Oklahoma.
Robert said that one key to their
long marriage maybe that they
learned how to be apart (when he
was driving a truck on long-haul
routes) and how to enjoy their time
when they’re together. Also, he lets
her handle “all the money and busi
ness end” for the family.
“It’s been fun,” he said of the last
60 years.
