The following incidents were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs Office March 25-April 11.
Monroe deputy
locates abandoned
Baptist Convention
van, handgun
At about 7:32 a.m.
on April 11, Sgt. Kevin
Williams was notified by
the Georgia Department
of Transportation (DOT)
of a white 1989 Ford work
truck left abandoned on
1-75 North near mile
marker 197. The DOT
official said he saw a black
Taurus handgun lying on
the ground next to the
truck. Williams then spot
ted the truck, which was
registered to the Georgia
Baptist Convention, and
the handgun, which was
determined not to be sto
len. Williams confiscated
the gun into evidence and
left his business card on
the trucks door in case the
owner came back to get it.
Deputy spots
driver throwing
marijuana bag out
of Impala window
A 28-year-old black
Macon man was arrested
and charged with posses
sion of marijuana after a
traffic stop on 1-75 South
on April 3. At about 4:58
p.m., Dep. Kemeyan
Colvard saw a white 2016
Chevrolet Impala traveling
slowly in the far left lane
on 1-75 South near mile
marker 188. Colvard saw
the male driver appeared
to be looking down at
his cell phone and was
not paying attention to
the road. Colvard then
saw the driver throw a
green substance out of
the driver side window
before he stopped his car
and smelled a strong odor
of raw marijuana coming
from the driver. Sgt. Kevin
Williams then searched the
area and found a clear plas
tic bag of marijuana in the
same spot where Colvard
had seen the driver throw
something out of the win
dow Williams also found a
second plastic bag of mari
juana and a scale inside
the car. Colvard then took
the driver to the Monroe
County Jail, where he was
also charged with obstruc
tion.
'Hog jowl' dispute
leads to arrest
after husband
pushes wife
A 58-year-old black
Musella man was arrested
and charged with disorder
ly conduct after a domestic
dispute at a Lockett Street
home on April 7. At about
4:27 p.m., a female Lockett
Street resident told Sgt.
Kevin Williams that she
and her husband had got
ten into a fight that after
noon. The resident said she
told her husband she was
cooking “hog jowls” and
her husband asked her if
she had bought them. The
resident said that led to a
bigger argument in which
she made a comment
about her husband hav
ing a child outside of their
marriage. The resident said
her husband became furi
ous and began pushing her
and knocking her down
repeatedly while cursing
at her. Williams then met
with the husband, who
was lying down in their
bedroom. The husband
said he just wanted some
peace after his wife had
made some comments that
hurt and angered him. The
husband then admitted to
pushing his wife and said
the dispute had gone just as
his wife had said. Williams
then took the husband to
the Monroe County Jail.
River Overlook
resident reports
getting bitten by
dog while walking
At about 2:43 p.m. on
April 9, a female River
Overlook resident told
Dep. Jeff Wilson she was
walking in her neighbor
hood when she encoun
tered a gray mixed breed
dog on Chastain Drive.
The resident said the dog
came out into the road
and bit her on the left
leg, just above the knee.
The resident said the dog
continued growling and
foaming at the mouth,
causing her to scream and
back away The resident
said the dog eventually
ran into the woods, and
she called her husband
and deputies to the scene.
Wilson saw the resident
had an extensive gash in
her leg and instructed her
to go to the hospital for
treatment. Wilson then
went to meet with the dog’s
male owner and saw two
dogs in the owners yard
barking and growling. The
home’s garage door was
slightly open, and Wilson
saw underground fence
collars on both dogs. The
gray dog would not allow
Wilson to exit his patrol
car because of its aggres
sive nature, so he contacted
Monroe County Animal
Control. The owner, who
was extremely apologetic
about the situation, told
Wilson his dog has an
autoimmune disease and
becomes easily agitated
when in pain. The owner
told Wilson the dog had
bitten another person
about six years earlier, and
he was considering putting
the dog down. The owner
said his dog’s rabies shots
were up to date. Wilson
then gave the owner the
resident’s phone number
to call her about the bite.
Wilson later learned the
resident and the owner had
spoken and worked out an
agreement.
Luther Smith Road
resident reports
theft of speakers,
stereo from yard
At about 1:28 p.m. on
March 25, a male Luther
Smith Road resident
told Dep. Nicholas Ortiz
that someone had stolen
multiple items from his
yard. The resident said he
last saw the stolen items
on March 23. The stolen
items included: a Pioneer
car stereo, Pioneer speak
ers, a Kenwood CB radio,
a Cobra radio, a light bar,
a gas-powered remote
control car and a genera
tor. The stolen items were
valued at about $1,525.
The resident told Ortiz his
trailer has holes where a
suspect could have gotten
through but said the stolen
items were all stored out
side of the trailer.
Cumming woman
reports striking
tire while driving
on 1-475 North
At about 6:09 p.m. on
April 7, Cpl. Thomas
Haskins met with a
Cumming woman who
said she was traveling in a
gray 2015 Buick Enclave
on 1-475 North near mile
marker 14 with her mother
and two sons, ages 5 and
2, when a tire came rolling
across the center console
barrier from 1-75 South.
The woman said the tire hit
the driver’s side rear of her
vehicle, breaking the win
dow The woman said she
saw the tire rolling ahead
of time but was unable to
avoid it.
Passenger charged
with marijuana
possession, lying
about identity
A 36-year-old black
Roanoke, Va. man was
arrested and charged with
possession of marijuana
and giving false statements
and writings after a traffic
stop on the 193 exit ramp
of 1-75 North on March
29. At about 3:39 p.m., Sgt.
Chad Beck saw a silver
Buick Lucerne following
too closely behind a trac
tor trailer on 1-75 North
near mile marker 193.
Beck stopped the vehicle
on the Johnstonville Road
exit ramp, and the male
driver told the deputy that
his license was suspended.
A male passenger said
he didn’t have a license
either. Both the driver and
the passenger appeared
very nervous, and Beck
smelled a strong odor of
raw marijuana coming
from the vehicle. He also
saw what appeared to be
marijuana residue on the
passenger’s pants. The
passenger told Beck they
were coming back from
Florida, where they had
picked up a puppy that was
in the vehicle. When Beck
asked the passenger about
the marijuana, he reached
inside his pants and pulled
out a bag of marijuana
from his crotch area. Beck,
Dep. Christian Sawley
and Sgt. Kevin Williams
then searched the vehicle
and found another small
bag of marijuana in the
passenger’s seat. Deputies
determined the passenger’s
name was not on file, and
the passenger claimed not
to know his social secu
rity number. Once at the
Monroe County Jail, the
passenger lied a second
time about his identity
before deputies learned
his real identity upon fin
gerprinting him. Deputies
determined the passenger’s
license was suspended out
of Virginia and he had two
arrest warrants for drug
possession. The driver, a
37-year-old black Roanoke,
Va. man, was also arrested
and charged with follow
ing too closely and driving
while license suspended.

Thompson went to a
Margie Lane home where
two male residents report
ed a female resident was
dead on the couch. The
first male resident said he
last spoke to the female res

day while she drank coffee.
The first resident said he
saw the female resident
fall asleep on the couch as
she does each day. He said
at about 5 p.m. he went
over to a neighbor’s home
and was later alerted that
the female resident was
unresponsive. The second
male resident said he woke
up at about 2 p.m. and saw
the female resident, his
mother, was asleep on the
couch. The second resi
dent said he went into the
kitchen momentarily and
then returned to his room
upstairs. The second resi
dent said at about 8:50 p.m.
he went back downstairs
and saw his mother was
still laying on the couch.
The second resident said
he knew something was
wrong and tried to wake
her up. He said he then saw
his mother wasn’t breath
ing and was unresponsive
at which point he called
9-1-1. The second resident
said his mother had previ
ous heart problems and
also smoked methamphet-
amine. Thompson then
found inside the female
resident’s purse two small
baggies containing meth-
amphetamine. The case
was then turned over to
Inv. Sam Leggett.

vandalized at Oak
Grove Holiness
Church on April 6
At about 6:49 p.m.
on April 6, Dep. Tyler
Rodgers went to Oak
Grove Holiness Church on
Zellner Road where a male
church employee said a
surveillance camera and a
motion fog light were dam
aged. The employee said he
found the camera behind
the church. A male wit
ness told Rodgers she saw
a red Ford Ranger truck in

male was driving the truck
and a young white female
was standing beside the
truck.
