etty Cantrell of
Warner Robins
is also known as
Miss America
2016. She is the first Miss
Georgia to win the title of
Miss America since Neva
Jane Fickling was
crowned Miss
America 1953.
As of April 13
Betty has another
new title, Mrs.
Betty Maxwell.
Although she
holds many titles
(singer, speaker,
author, etc), I
think she loves
“Mrs. Maxwell”
the best. She and
Spencer Maxwell, whose
family moved to south
Monroe County in 2005,
met on Tinder just three
months before she won the
Miss Georgia title in 2015.
Spencer is a Citadel
graduate and a former
member of the Monroe
VICKI SMITH
County Sheriff’s SWAT
team. After passing on her
Miss America crown at the
2017 Miss America pag
eant, Cantrell announced
via social media that she
and Maxwell were engaged
and moving to
Nashville to pur
sue her country
music career.
Betty says
she exchanged
her diamond
encrusted crown
for an engage
ment ring of
even more excit
ing bling.
Renee Jones
was contacted
by Betty and Spencer in
December about the use of
Morgan View Farm for the
wedding reception. She and
her husband, Allen Jones,
own and operate Morgan
View Farm, located just
north of Bolingbroke at the
corners of Highway 41 and
Shi Road. Renee teaches
horseback riding lessons,
boards horses and rents
out the farm on weekends
for weddings and events.
It accommodates approxi
mately 350-400 guests.
Renee was delightfully
surprised and honored to
not only host the venue
but recommend the other
vendors, such as the caterer
and photographer.
With only a few months
notice, they sprang into
action to pull together one
of the most beautiful and
largest receptions held so
far at Morgan View Farm.
Working closely with Betty
and Spencers mothers and
the wedding planner, Liz
Brown, Renee said she was
not swayed by the task and
went to work preparing
for the big day - Friday the
13 th of April.
I went to help Renee and
Allen with any task needed
that evening. There was a

wedding rehearsal under
way on the front lawn, and
the reception taking place
in the barn. I assisted in
directing the cars to the
right parking area, depend
ing on which event they
were attending, and helped
ensure no media tried to
crash the party.
As the guests arrived, the
sun was beginning to set
on a glorious spring day.
As Betty and Spencer and
their wedding party arrived
via a trolley from the Greek
church where they were
wed in downtown Macon,
I noticed that the graz
ing horses could sense the
excitement and seemed
giddy. They were curi
ously watching as Betty and
Spencer had their photos
taken under the canopy of
trees. Renee also has bun
nies roaming all over the
farm, and even the bunnies
seemed to have an extra
bounce in their hop.
After the cocktail hour,
the newlyweds made their
way to the large horse
arena dance floor for their
first dance as a married
couple. The barn became
silent as more than 350
guests watched the couple
dance to a beautiful song
that Betty had written and
recorded called “Sway”
This song held special
meaning for the bride and
groom as Betty had writ
ten it about her love for
Spencer. The setting was
absolutely enchanting with
white linen clothes and
roses adorning the tables
and the big brass chande
lier hanging above.
The guests enjoyed
delicacies from Anderson’s
