4th graders prepared
for State testing
4th grade students were getting ready to “Knock the
Milestones out of the Park.”
The 4th graders here at Hubbard Elementary have
worked so hard and diligently. The students were excited
to show what they know on the Milestonestests.
They created promises for doing their best on the tests.
Some of the “Promises” were: “I will take my time,” “I will
read all of the questions,” “I will check my work,” and “I
will get a good nights rest.”
After the students created their “Game Day Promise,”
they signed a Pledge to say they will do their best on the
Milestones.

Hubbard Elementary’s first
graders have been work
ing diligently to finish their
greenhouse.
Just in the last month, they
have watched as the frame
has gone up to their specifica
tions. They have been excited
to drill holes for PVC pipe
placement, cut PVC columns
to size, and even help to
secure part of the first wall to
go up!
This greenhouse is the cul
mination of a year-long study
of both plants and economic
principles, with kids tackling
the very real question of
how to grow affordable and
healthy food in all types of
weather.
With the greenhouse,
they hope to be able to grow
vegetables even during the
cold winter months! Right
now, they have half of a wall
completed (that’s a lot of
work for six year olds!), and
they are looking forward to
finishing the remainder of the
greenhouse before the end of
the school year.
2nd graders give Hubbard
a pear tree lor Earth Day
Mrs. Burgess’ 2nd grade class at Hubbard
Elementary celebrated Earth Day by plant
ing a Flowering Pear tree on campus. Each
student learned how to properly plant a tree.
First, they dug a small hole and made a
cone of dirt in the bottom of the hole. Next
students placed the tree in the hole and
spread the roots of the tree evenly around the
cone. Lastly they made sure the crown, where
the roots met the trunk, stayed above the top
of the soil.
