At about 2:06 p.m. on
May 2, a Rumble Road

that he was notified on
May 1 that his USAA
credit card information had
been stolen. The man said
several transactions were
made in Mableton, includ
ing $940 at a Walgreens
and $50 at a gas station.
The resident said he was
told by Walgreens employ

Deputy discovers
Xanax tablets in
Jackson woman's
purse during stop
A 20-year-old white
Jackson woman was
arrested and charged with
Violation of the Georgia
Controlled Substance
Act, pills not in original
container and obstruction
after a traffic stop on High
Falls Road on April 30.
At about 9:32 p.m., Dep.
Tyler Rodgers saw a black
1998 Acura 2.3CL with
an improper tag display
on High Falls Road near
Lakeshore Drive. Rodgers
stopped the vehicle in the
Citgo gas station parking
lot on High Falls Road and
met with the male driver,
who said he was having car
trouble. Rodgers smelled a
strong odor of raw mari
juana coming from inside
the vehicle and on the
drivers person. Dispatchers
then notified Rodgers that
the drivers license was
suspended for failure to
appear. The driver also
admitted to smoking mari
juana earlier in the day but
denied having any drugs in
the vehicle. A female pas
senger said she had let the
driver borrow her vehicle.
The passenger said she too
smoked marijuana earlier
in the day but also denied
having any drugs inside
the vehicle. The passenger
told Rodgers she was not
going to give him consent
to search, but Rodgers said
he had cause for a search
because of the marijuana
smell coming from inside
of the vehicle. Rodgers also
picked up the passengers
purse, but she snatched it
out of his hand and told
him he was not going to
search it. Rodgers searched
the purse anyway and
found a small black bag.
Despite the passengers
protestations not to open
it, Rodgers found inside
the bag small traces of
marijuana and a yellow
prescription bottle without
a proper label. The bottle
contained two green pills
of suspected Xanax, one
white pill and a partial pill
believed to be Oxycodone.
The passenger told Rodgers
the person who gave her
the pills told her they were
Melatonin tablets. Rodgers
then took the driver to the
Monroe County Jail while
Sgt. Willie Brown took the
passenger to the Monroe
County Jail. The driver, an
18-year-old white Jackson
man, was arrested and
charged with an improper
tag display and driving
while license suspended.
Hwy. 341 resident
threatens suicide
by taking pills
after argument
At about 10:36 p.m. on
May 1, Dep. Tyler Rodgers
went to a Hwy. 341 home
about a suicide attempt.
The female resident told
Rodgers that she and her
husband had been in an
argument that night. She
said her husband had con
sumed alcohol and swal
lowed several Seroquel pills
before running into the
woods. The resident said
her husband was on parole
for felony obstruction and
had a tendency to be vio
lent. She said her husband
might have a pocket knife
in his possession. Rodgers
then searched the woods
behind the home and
found the husband lying
on the ground holding a
black-handled pocket knife.
The husband was respon
sive but refused to drop
the knife, instead plac
ing the blade to his neck.
Rodgers then grabbed
the husbands hand and,
along with Monroe County
EMT Jason Lott, was able
to take the knife from the
husband, who was then
handcuffed. EMTs then
treated the husband, whose
speech was lethargic and
whose balance was poor.
The husband said he took
five or six Seroquel pills
but had not drunk any
alcohol. Sgt. Willie Brown
then took the husband to
Macons Medical Center
Navicent Health, but the
husband became ill while
en route and was turned
over to EMTs.

computer stolen
from father’s home

Todd Haskins that her
fathers home had been
burglarized over the pre
vious several days. The
resident said there was no
sign of forced entry. Stolen
items included: a 12-gauge
shotgun, three gold Delta
pins with diamonds, a gold

gave Haskins the name of a
possible female suspect.
Deputies discover
marijuana, beer
bottles in search
of Honda Civic
A 20-year-old white
Newnan man was arrested
and charged with posses
sion of marijuana while a
second 20-year-old white
Newnan man was also
arrested and charged with
underage possession of
alcohol after a traffic stop
on 1-75 South on April
25. At about 7:44 p.m.,
Cpl. John Thompson saw
a blue 2003 Honda Civic
missing a taillight and a
brake light while failing to
maintain its lane on 1-75
South near mile marker
188. The female driver,
who was extremely ner
vous and whose hands
were trembling, said she
and her three passengers, a
female front seat passenger
and two male back seat
passengers, were headed
to Florida. The driver, who
said deputies make her
nervous, said she had been
arrested previously for
marijuana possession and
allowed Thompson and
Sgt. Kemeyan Colvard to
search the car. Dispatchers
determined the 17-year-
old female passenger was
reported missing out of
Paulding County. Deputies
then searched the car and
found several Michelob
Ultra beer bottles in the
trunk, which one of the
back seat passengers
claimed. After deputies
failed to find any other ille
gal items, K-9 Koda then
alerted on the front of the
vehicle. Thompson popped
the car’s hood and found
a bag of marijuana inside
the fuse box, which the
other back seat passenger
claimed. Both back seat
passengers were then taken
to the Monroe County Jail
while a Paulding County
investigator got permission
from the front seat passen
ger’s mother to allow the
driver to take the front seat
passenger home. The front
seat passenger’s mother
notified Thompson at
11:50 p.m. that her daugh
ter was home and safe.
Forsyth man
charged with DUI
nearly falls asleep
during urine test
A 53-year-old white
Forsyth man was arrested
and charged with DUI
after a traffic stop on High
Falls Road on April 24. At
about 4:45 p.m., Dep. Cody
Maples was conducting
a sobriety checkpoint at
the intersection of High
Falls and Blount roads
when a tan-colored Ford
F-150 truck approached.
Maples saw the male
driver appeared sleepy
with puffy, red, swollen
eyes, and he was moving
slowly inside the truck.
The driver, whose speech
was slow, said he wasn’t
feeling well because he had
recently been diagnosed
with cancer. The driver
said he had taken one
Lortab tablet at 7 a.m. that
morning but said he was
tired from being sleep-
deprived and having been
to several doctor’s appoint
ments. The driver had to
hold onto his truck bed to
keep from falling, and he
agreed to take a field sobri
ety test, which he failed.
Maples then searched the
driver and found inside
his front left pocket a
cigarette pack contain
ing three Hydrocodone
tablets. Dep. Christian
Sawley then found inside
the driver’s lunchbox on
the front passenger seat an
empty Hydrocodone bottle
with the driver’s prescrip
tion. Once at the Monroe
County Jail, Maples saw
the driver nearly fall asleep
several times as he submit
ted a urine sample. The
driver was also charged
with drugs not in original
container.
Deputy watches
driver, passenger
swap seats prior
to 1-75 checkpoint
A 29-year-old black
Lithonia woman and
a 33-year-old black
Buckhead woman were
each arrested and charged
with possession of mari
juana after a traffic stop
on Johnstonville Road on
April 27. At about 8:10
p.m., Dep. Jacob Robins
was conducting a sobri
ety checkpoint at the
Johnstonville Road exit
ramp of 1-75 South when
a blue Volkswagen Passat
approached. Robins saw
the vehicle’s female driver
and front seat passenger
switch seats prior to the
stop. He also saw one of
the vehicle’s occupants put
something in the trunk.
Robins smelled a strong
odor of marijuana coming
from the vehicle. Officer
Wade Kendrick of the
Forsyth Police Department
and Robins then searched
the vehicle and found a
small bag of marijuana
inside a Crown Royal
bag on the back seat. The
front seat passenger said
the drugs belonged to her.
Kendrick also found a sec
ond bag of marijuana along
with a grinder and rolling
papers, which the back
seat passenger said was
hers. Both passengers were
then taken to the Monroe
County Jail. The driver
was cited for having no
insurance and was taken to
Waffle House.
Deputies locate
ice cold Mike’s
Hard Lemonade
in passenger seat
A 23-year-old white
Macon man was arrested
and charged with DUI
after a traffic stop on
Johnstonville Road on
April 27. At about 8:20
p.m., Dep. Nicholas
Ortiz was conducting a
sobriety checkpoint at
the Johnstonville Road
exit ramp of 1-75 South
when a blue Honda Fit
approached. Ortiz smelled
a strong odor of alcohol
coming from the vehicle
and saw numerous cans
in the passenger seat. The
male passenger said the
cans were Mike’s Hard
Lemonade but said they
were old. The male driver
denied having been drink
ing and agreed to take
several field sobriety tests,
which he failed. Dep. Cody
Maples then searched the
vehicle and determined
the cans in the front seat
were still cold and had con
densation on them. Ortiz
then took the driver to the
Monroe County Jail, where
he refused a state breath
test. The driver was also
charged with an open con
tainer violation.
Deputy arrests
high-speed chase
suspect in parking
lot of Macon KFC
A 24-year-old black
Miami Gardens, Fla. man
was arrested and charged
with fleeing/attempting
to elude a police officer,
speeding, driving while
license suspended/revoked,
failure to stop for a stop
sign and reckless driving
after a high-speed chase
on 1-75 South ended in
Bibb County on April 29.
At about 9:25 a.m., Sgt.
Todd Haskins saw a green
2017 Mazda vehicle with
a Florida tag traveling 104
mph in a 70 mph zone
on 1-75 South near mile
marker 183. Haskins tried
to stop the vehicle but it
continued south, exiting
on Rumble Road before
running the stop sign at the
top of the exit ramp and
continuing back onto 1-75
South. Haskins saw the
vehicle pass in the emer
gency lane and continue
at speeds in excess of 120
mph into Bibb County. The
vehicle eventually exited
at Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. and
turned into the Kentucky
Fried Chicken parking
lot, where the male driver
got out and fled on foot.
Haskins, who determined
there were two male pas
sengers inside the vehicle,
eventually apprehended
the driver in the KFC
parking lot. Dep. Timothy
Campfield then searched
the vehicle and found five
Chime/Visa debit cards,
which the driver said
were his. The driver was
then taken to the Monroe
County Jail, where he may
also face an additional
charge of financial transac
tion card fraud.
Ford truck wrecks
in Hwy. 83 ravine,
deputy locates 30-
pack of Bud Light
At about 1:41 p.m. on
April 29, Dep. Jacob Robins
went to Hwy. 83 North
near Berner Loop where he
saw a red 2003 Ford F-150
truck with a Tennessee tag
in a ravine. Robins deter
mined the truck had been
driving recklessly on the
shoulder of the road, lost
control, overturned and
came to a stop right side
up in a small creek down
an eight-foot deep ditch.
Robins saw the truck’s front
was nearly on the culvert
running under the road.
There was extensive dam
age to the truck, including
a caved-in roof, a busted
front windshield, two bust
ed driver side windows,
two broken mirrors and
numerous dents to its body.
Dispatchers determined
the truck belonged to an
Athens, Tenn. man. Robins
searched the area but did
not locate the driver. He
then found a Plant Scherer
parking sticker on the
truck and tried to reach
the truck’s owner there but
learned the owner had not
shown up for work that
day. Robins found inside
the truck a 30-pack of Bud
Light beer cans with about
12 remaining in the box.
He also found two open
Bud Light cans and a third
can with plastic from a
six-pack on the dashboard.
The truck’s radio and key
had been removed.
Restaurant owner
reports vandals
steal from porch,
light fire outside
At about 11:11 a.m.
on April 24, Dep. Jacob
Robins went to the Hot
Dog House on High Falls
Road about vandalism. The
male restaurant owner told
Robins that suspects have
been coming to the restau
rant after hours vandalizing
the property and sleeping
on the outside porch. The
owner said a shelf next
to a window going to the
kitchen had been busted
off, all of the exterior fan
blades had been broken off
and all of the exterior light
bulbs had been stolen. The
owner said he also found
clothing left behind the
outside cooler. The owner
said when he arrived at the
restaurant at about 10 a.m.
that morning he found the
outside furniture had been
moved and someone had
tried to start a fire near the
rear of the restaurant. The
owner said he had seen a
male suspect, age 20 to 23,
around 5 feet, 6 inches tall,
with dirty blond hair and
a shaggy beard, typically
wearing a t-shirt with cut
off sleeves and shorts, stay
on the restaurant porch
for the majority of the
day before leaving when
the restaurant closed. The
owner said the male sus
pect was accompanied by
a female suspect, age 19 to
21, around 5 feet, 2 inches
tall, with glasses and a pink
gym bag. The owner said
the suspects walked from
the direction of Lakeshore
Drive. The owner said he
had previously ignored the
vandalism, chalking it up to
“kids being kids.” However,
he said after seeing the fire
so close to his building, he
believed they could burn
his restaurant down or get
hurt on his property. The
owner said he contacted
his insurance company and
attorney about the matter
and had decided to close
in his porch so there is no
access to it outside of busi
ness hours. Robins told the
owner that patrol deputies
would keep an eye on the
restaurant after hours.
Jackson driver
arrested after
dispute with
school bus driver
A 48-year-old white
Jackson man was arrested
and charged with disorder
ly conduct after a dispute
with a Monroe County
school bus driver on May
1. At about 4:33 p.m., Dep.
Nicholas Ortiz went to
Cherry Street in Lakeview
subdivision about a silver
Ford Focus blocking a
Monroe County school
bus. A female Monroe
County Schools bus driver
told Ortiz the Focus was
following her bus and
blocking the road. The
driver said the male Focus
driver got out of his car
and started hitting the bus
with his hand while yelling
and swearing at her. The
bus driver said she photo
graphed the Focus driver
and showed Ortiz the
picture. Ortiz then went to
a Horseshoe Bend Road
home where he located
the Focus and noticed its
hood was still warm as if it
had just been driven. The
Focus driver denied hav
ing driven the Focus, but
Ortiz saw it was the same
man whom the bus driver
had photographed. Ortiz
then arrested the Focus
driver and took him to the
Monroe County Jail, where
he was also charged with
driving on a suspended
license.
Driver, passenger
arrested after
deputies locate car
reported stolen
A 28-year-old black
Jonesboro man and a
45-year-old Forsyth man
were each arrested and
charged with theft by
receiving stolen property
after they were stopped
on Fairview Church
Road on May 5 while
traveling in a stolen car.
At about 4:47 a.m., Cpl.
Thomas Haskins saw a
newer model Chevrolet
Malibu parked at the Shell
gas station on Hwy. 42
North that appeared to
have been spray painted
black. Dispatchers notified
Haskins the car’s license
plate was registered to a
2014 Chevrolet Malibu,
and the plate was reported
stolen out of Clayton
County the previous day.
Haskins and Dep. Christian
Sawley then followed the
car to Fairview Church
Road, where they stopped
it. Sawley then searched the
male driver and found an
empty hypodermic needle
in his pocket. The driver,
who gave a false name and
date of birth, told deputies
he didn’t know to whom
the car belonged. He said
his “girl” dropped the car
off at his house and told
him he could drive it.
Haskins then asked the
driver if the car was sto
len to which he replied:
“I don’t know if it’s stolen,
but now I’m beginning to
wonder if it is.” Dispatchers
then determined the car
was a blue 2009 Chevrolet
Malibu reported stolen
out of Morrow on April
13. Haskins, Sawley and
Sgt. Willie Brown then
searched the car and found
a hypodermic needle on
the back seat as well as a
plastic bag in the center
console containing a white
crystal substance that the
driver claimed was “Epsom
salt.” A male passenger told
Haskins he didn’t know the
driver at all. The passenger
said he met a girl online
and the girl came with the
driver over to his Stokes
Store Road home about 30
minutes earlier. The pas
senger said he intended
to “pay the girl for sex”
but needed more cash.
Therefore, the passenger
said the driver took him
to the Shell station so he
could withdraw cash from
the ATM. Both the driver
and the passenger were
then taken to the Monroe
County Jail. Once at the
jail, the driver admitted
he had initially given his
brother’s name because
he had an arrest warrant.
Dispatchers then deter
mined the driver’s license
was suspended and he had
a warrant out of Morrow
for shoplifting. The driver,
the Jonesboro man, was
also charged with giving
a false name and driving
while license suspended.
