r’s Day 2018
jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Makenna Howard
I wake up in the morn
ing to birds chirping at my
window and the sun peeking
through my blinds. It’s calm
for the most part, except on
school mornings, those can be
hectic. In a good way though,
because the hustle and bustle
in the house is the excitement
for school. Which I know
sounds crazy, who actually
loves school right? Well, we
do. With all that the Monroe
County schools have to offer
it keeps us very busy. With
one of the top ranked foot
ball teams in the state, and a
sixteen-year-old brother who
happens to start at left tackle,
he tends to love leaving for
school in the morning just
because he looks forward to
what he knows awaits him
after. The love and determina
tion the coaches here have
for him and the bonds he has
created with his teammates
are unforgettable. He however,
is not nearly the only person
who loves this atmosphere.
I happen to also have an
other brother, he’s the young
est at eleven years old, but he
also stays busy year round.
He started wee ball at Monroe
County Rec department at the
age of 4. He then progressed
to playing soccer and basket
ball all right here at the rec.
With so many different sports
to choose from, there is sure
to be something for everyone.
This close family atmosphere
we have here is definitely one
of the best, it not only has
been good to my brothers, but
also to me.
Being a cheerleader, we
always look to the commu
nity for support. We ask the
community to sponsor us so
that we can fulfill our roles as
Monroe County’s cheerlead
ers, and the community’s
response is nothing but kind.
We are always able to find
people and businesses around
town who are willing to do
nate and provide us with the
means necessary to create the
programs we sell on Friday
Nights. But that’s not all, the
community also holds many
events honoring the cheer
leaders, which is so flattering
and kind on their part. It is
such a blessing to have been
able to complete six success
ful years as a middle school
and high school competition
cheerleader. I had some of the
best coaches I’ve ever had who
have taught me and molded
me in the shape I should
go, so that one day I can be
as successful as them. They
are the reason I have chosen
to further my cheerleading
career into my college years. I

couldn’t have done this with
out them. MP cheerleading
has shown me that there are
so many little eyes and ears
that watch everything we do,
so we wear the MP logo on
our uniform with pride. We
are proud of all the logo repre
sents and we are honored to
be a part of that. But none of
this would even be possible if
I hadn’t have an even stronger
foundation.
My brothers and I have been
so fortunate as to have been
able to attend the schools here
in Monroe County from pre-k
all the way through the end.
All three of us attended T.G.
Scott Elementary School, and
we were nothing but happy.
The teachers always went
above and beyond to make
sure we had an in-depth un
derstanding of what we were
learning and that we were
left feeling comfortable with
what was taught. Our teachers
made sure that our learning
environment was safe and
suitable so that we were able
to learn at our fullest poten
tial. Not only this, but these
teachers showed us the way to
lift others up when they may
be feeling down, or how to
stand up for someone when
we may notice that something
isn’t right. These role models
in our lives have been not only
our parents but our teachers
as well, and for that we are so
very thankful. We not only
see our teachers at school, but
around town as well.
On the weekends and dur
ing the summer, our town
does not merely sleep. We
host festivals, church revivals,
holiday celebrations, parades,
and much more here in our
lovely little town and all of
these help bring our commu
nity even closer. All of these
are reasons that I love Monroe
County. From the love and
support the amazing coaches
and teachers give to the fa
cilities and activities Monroe
County has to offer, we love it
all. My parents have said that
moving to Monroe County
sixteen years ago was the
best thing they ever did, and
I’d have to agree. I couldn’t
imagine growing up anywhere
else. Monroe County has
prepared me to spread my
wings and become an adult,
but I know that I can always
call this place home. I love the
people of Monroe County,
I love the sports of Monroe
County, I love the teachers
of Monroe County, but most
importantly I love that at the
end of the day, when I sit
down and reflect on what I
have to be thankful for, all of
it is what Monroe County has
brought me. There is no place
that I would rather call home.
Thanks for being home, Mon
roe County.

you leave the store with everything
else except, milk. Monroe County
is easy to love. The traditions and
celebrations never fail to bring joy to
everyone. It is an area full of people not
afraid to roll up their sleeves and do
the work. A county where one person’s
tragedy is everyone’s tragedy. I moved
away for a few years but I always knew
this would be where I raised my family.
I have a little girl who is two and now
she will have this scenic background
for all of her memories. She will come
to know these kind and considerate
people as her extended family. I am so
happy to be able to share this love with
her as she continues to grow and expe
rience all this place has to offer. There
are so many reasons to love Monroe
County but for me, the people, are
what make this county feel like home.

feel welcome.
While Monroe County isn’t the most
populated or largest county, I believe
it is the most loving and best. Mon
roe County has provided me with an
amazing education, a community of
supporters and a wonderful place to
call home. I wouldn’t trade my time
spent here for anything.
