Earlier in Mondays meeting, city officials had said they are happy with the plan created by Clark Nexsen, the Macon architectural firm the city retained for $28,000 to design a city hall that fit the city’s needs. But after retaining Clark Nexsen for 8 percent of cost to build the city hall, Tapley of fered his alternative plan and city council seems interested. Tapley said that as the county began planning projects it would like to include for its next SPLOST, the need for a new Justice Department Complex close to town came up. The Golden Hawks took the lead for good with 45 seconds to play when they scored on a 3-yard touchdown to seize a 24-18 advantage. Wash ington County then added another score on a long run with a couple of seconds left for the 30-18 final margin. Desmond Williams scored a pair of TDs for the Bulldogs, one rushing and one receiving, while Quen Wilson reached the end zone on a 70-yard screen pass from J.T. Hartage. MP head coach Brian Nelson said with a veteran team returning, spring practice was mostly about building depth. Michael Bittick of the Macon-Bibb County Sher iff’s Office has announced his candidacy for Monroe BITTICK See BITTICK • Page7A Hometown send-off for DAs year-long deployment to Iraq District Attorney Jonathan Adams, right, is en route to Iraq where he will oversee three military bases north of Baghdad for the next 12 months with the Georgia National Guard. Friends and well-wishers gave Adams a send-off reception at the Monroe County courthouse on Saturday. A 26-year member of the National Guard, Adams said he thought he was done with deployments when he ran for and won his race for District Attorney in 2016. Adams said hes trying to make it to 30 years in the Guard before retiring. Then he got a surprise deployment notice. Adams said he was last in Iraq in 2003 for the invasion, and while there his daughter, now a teenager, was born. Adams said he will have a couple of passes to come home for Memorial Day and July 4, and will have access to email. Adams said this should be his last deployment and if the Guard tries to deploy him again, hell probably just retire. Elizabeth Bobbitt will be interim DA while Adams is gone. One of the biggest cases the office will prosecute while hes gone are murder charges for the parents of Sanchez Ussery Jr., the 8-month-old who died from abuse on Aug. 10, 2017 (Photo/Will Davis)
