Tuesday, May 15, county
commissioners revealed
that Bolingbroke-based
Unique Auto Sales may be
moving.
District 3 commissioner
John Ambrose, who repre

dience members that Justin
Campbell, who owns the
successful auto business, is
considering moving his car
lot to an alternate location
while keeping his office
headquarters at his current
Rivoli Road location. Am
brose said Campbell has
already bought property at
an unspecified location in
Bibb County, but he said

MAKING SENSE OF INVESTING
tatives have encouraged
Campbell to relocate to
one of the county’s va
cant industrial park sites.
Unique Auto Sales opened
in the sleepy village off
1-475 a few years ago and
some have grumbled about
the hundreds of cars it has
brought to the community.
Meanwhile, District 1
commissioner Larry Evans
encouraged Bolingbroke
residents to support the
county’s penny Special
Purpose Local Option Sales
Tax (SPLOST), which will
be up for vote in Novem
ber. Evans said the SPLOST,
which is estimated to raise
$25 million over six years,
is critical for funding road
maintenance and extending
water lines throughout the
county as well as enhancing
emergency equipment and
recreation.
In addition, District 4
commissioner George
Emami asked Bolingbroke
citizens whether they want
commissioners to designate
SPLOST funds for incen
tives for private compa
nies to enhance internet
infrastructure in Monroe
County. When Emami
asked for a show of hands
on how many citizens do
not have adequate internet
at their homes, about half
of the estimated 50 citizens
in attendance raised their
hands.
Also, County commis
sion chairman Greg Tapley
urged Bolingbroke citi
zens to stay patient on the
ongoing line dispute with
Bibb County. Tapley said a
resolution could come soon
if Georgia Secretary of State
Brian Kemp fails to win the
Republican gubernatorial
nomination. Evans said it’s
Bibb County’s fault that the
controversy has gone on for
so long.
“This thing has been in
dispute for over 100 years
about where that county
line should have been,” Ev
ans said. “We agreed to the
terms that were set forth.

Bolingbroke
Unique Auto Sales in Bolingbroke has brought hundreds of cars
to town, but the cars may be moving to Macon.
We went along with it. Had
they moved the line 1,000
feet north, we would’ve
went along with it because
we agreed to the terms and
we stuck with them. So
we’re not the villains. It’s
Bibb County:”
In other action at last
Tuesday’s meeting:
• Monroe County com
mission chairman Greg
Tapley selected Jim Rollins
as his appointment to the
Monroe County Planning
& Zoning Board. Rollins,
who has 22 years of experi
ence in commercial real
estate, replaces Doris Ogle-
tree, who died last month.
Ogletree had served on the
P & Z board since its incep
tion in 1987.
• Commissioners voted
to pay Starr Heating & Air
$5,475 to install a new Car
rier air conditioning unit
for the Monroe County Jail
kitchen.
Starr’s bid included a five-
year warranty for parts and
a one-year warranty for
labor. Starr was chosen as
the low bidder over Head
Heating & Air and Mid-
State Heating & Air.
•Commissioners voted to
buy a new Ford Explorer
for $24,745 from Unadilla-
based Brannen Motor
Company.
The Explorer will be used
by the Monroe County

Smell gas?
Act fast!
Natural gas is a colorless, odorless fuel. For safety reasons, a chemical odorant called mercaptan
is added for easy detection. This odorant has a distinctive "rotten egg" type scent. Natural gas
odors should be reported right away. Do not try to locate the source of the smell.
If you smell this odor:
• Alert others and leave the area immediately.
• Leave the door open as you exit.
• Avoid using any sources of ignition, such as cell phones, lighters, matches, cigarettes,
flashlights, light switches, landlines or starting a car engine.
• Call Atlanta Gas Light at 877.427.4321 or 911 once you are out of the area and in a safe place.
