ROBBERS
INCIDENT REPORTS . MAY 23, 2018
The following incidents were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs Office May 8-14.
Couple arrested
after deputies
find Ecstasy pills,
smoking devices
A 25-year-old white
man and a 25-year-old
white woman, both of
Fort Myers, Fla., were each
arrested and charged with
Violation of the Georgia
Controlled Substance Act,
possession of marijuana
and possession of drug
related objects after a traf
fic stop on 1-75 South on
May 10. At about 2:44
p.m., Sgt. Kevin Williams
saw a white 2003 Acura
RSX failing to maintain its
lane on 1-75 South near
mile marker 192. The
male driver, whose hands
were shaking and whose
stomach was trembling,
appeared very nervous.
The driver said he was
nervous because he doesn’t
like law enforcement but
denied having anything
illegal inside his vehicle.
Despite this, the driver
refused to allow Williams
to search his vehicle. The
female passenger, who was
the vehicles owner, was
also shaking but denied
being nervous. When
Williams told the passenger
he had a K-9 unit en route,
the passenger said, “Here
just take it,” while handing
Williams a can of sparkling
water infused with alcohol.
Williams and Sgt. Jarred
Duncan then searched
the vehicle and found a
marijuana smoking device
in the vehicle door as well
as a small blue makeup
bag containing a glass
marijuana smoking device.
They also found a plastic
bag containing marijuana
as well as a cigarette pack
with six pills of suspected
Ecstasy inside a suitcase.
They also found a bag con
taining mushrooms in the
same suitcase pocket as the
Ecstasy pills. Lt. Lawson
Bittick then took the driver
and the passenger to the
Monroe County Jail. The
driver was also charged
with failure to maintain
lane.
Paul So Easy
Auto Sales owner
reports Accord
stolen from lot
At about 7:46 a.m. on
May 14, Dep. Nicholas
Ortiz went to Paul So
Easy Auto Sales on Indian
Springs Drive where the
male owner said a black
2005 Honda Accord had
been stolen off of his car
lot. The owner said he last
drove the car on May 11
and had left the keys inside
the car. The owner said he
then left town for the week
end and when he returned
to work on May 14, he
discovered the car was
missing. The owner said
he tracked the car’s GPS to
Ensign Road, where Ortiz
found the car located in a
field behind the National
Guard Armory. The owner
said he thinks a male
neighbor, who is living in
a car behind his business,
stole the car. He said ever
since the neighbor moved
in, items have been going
missing from his shop. The
case was then turned over
to Inv. Adam Blanks.
Lawrenceville
woman charged
with obstruction,
public intoxication
A 26-year-old black
Lawrenceville woman
was arrested and charged
with public intoxication
and obstruction after a
traffic stop on 1-75 North
on May 13. At about 5:03
p.m., Dep. Jacob Robins
was notified by dispatch
ers of a tan-colored 2012
Chevrolet Craze stopped
on the side of 1-75 North
near mile marker 178.
When Robins arrived
at the scene, he saw the
female passenger pacing
around her vehicle while
throwing her arms around
in the air in obvious dis
tress. The passenger imme
diately demanded Robins
to give her his phone so
she could call someone.
When Robins urged the
passenger to calm down,
she again asked for his
phone and told him not
to worry about it. Robins
asked the passenger whom
she needed to call, and she
said she wanted to call the
male driver who had left
her alongside the road.
Robins again asked the
passenger to calm down
and told her he would
allow her to use her phone
if she showed him respect.
The passenger replied,
“Yes sir,” and Robins gave
her his phone to use. The
passenger, whose eyes
were bloodshot and whose
speech was slurred, smelled
strongly of alcohol and
appeared to be intoxicated.
The passenger then began
yelling on the phone at
the driver, ordering him
to bring her phone and
keys back to her. Robins
then asked to speak with
the driver who told him
they were driving on 1-75
when they had gotten into
an argument and he pulled
over when she snatched
the steering wheel. The
driver said the passenger
then grabbed the keys out
of the car and began run
ning into the interstate,
flagging down another
vehicle. The driver said the
other vehicle stopped, and
the other driver gave him
a ride away from the pas
senger. The driver said he
didn’t take the passenger’s
phone nor keys, saying
the passenger’s phone was
under the driver’s seat and
saying he gave the pas
senger her key fob before
he left. The passenger then
found her phone under
the seat where the driver
said it would be. However,
Robins and the passenger
were unable to locate her
keys. While searching for
the keys, Robins and Dep.
Perry Fitzgerald found
several prescription bottles
both inside the passenger’s
purse and in the vehicle’s
center console. They also
found an empty liquor
bottle and an open peach-
flavored vodka bottle inside
the trank. Robins also
found a prescription bottle
with the passenger’s name
on it in the ditch. When
the passenger told Robins
that the driver’s sister was
bringing her another key,
Robins told her he was
leaving. However, Robins
became concerned that the
passenger was too drank
to drive and asked the pas
senger to take a field breath
test. The driver said she
wasn’t drunk and ignored
Robins, instead calling
the driver again. The pas
senger then told Robins
she couldn’t make her take
the breath test, and Robins
told her she was correct but
that he was only trying to
ensure her safety. The pas
senger then told Robins:
“You know what? F— you,
you can leave now? at
which point Robins hand
cuffed the passenger. After
the passenger tried to resist,
Cpl. Thomas Haskins
assisted Robins with tak
ing the passenger to the
Monroe County Jail.
Woman accuses
friend of assault
after incident at
Jenkins Rd. home
A 31-year-old white
Forsyth man was arrested
and charged with simple
battery (Family Violence),
false imprisonment and
hindering a 9-1-1 call after
an incident at a Jenkins
Road home on May 7. At
about 10:06 a.m. on May
8, a female Jenkins Road
resident told Cpl. Timothy
Campfield that she was
assaulted by a male friend
the previous day. The
resident said she and her
husband allowed their
friend to live at their home
while he gets back on his
feet. The resident said her
friend had been acting
strange recently, and she
worried he was back on
drugs. The resident said
she put a tracker on her
friend’s car and discovered
he was visiting an unfa
miliar area. She said she
then ordered her friend to
return to her home with
the car and said he needed
to leave. The resident said
when the friend got to her
home, he went upstairs
and began yelling at her.
She said he slammed the
door several times and
wouldn’t let her exit the
room. The resident said
her friend then grabbed
her and forced her back
onto a bed, which she
described as terrifying, as
well as snatched the phone
away when she tried to
call 9-1-1. The resident
said she eventually got
out of the room and went
downstairs, where her
friend continued yelling
while also slamming his
hand onto hers violently.
The resident said while
her friend was still asleep
that morning, she went to
meet with his probation
officer about the incident.
The resident had sev
eral braises on her body.
Campfield then knocked
on the friend’s door and
ordered him into the
hallway. When Campfield
asked the friend what had
happened the previous
night, the friend replied,
“I didn’t think it was that
bad.” After first denying
several times that anything
had occurred, the friend
finally admitted to arguing
with the resident inside his
room.
Vehicles entered
at Monroe County
recreation dept.,
computer stolen
At about 9:17 a.m. on
May 10, a Forsyth woman
told Sgt. Kevin Williams
that someone entered her
vehicle at the Monroe
County Recreation
Department between 7
p.m. and 8:45 p.m. the
previous night, May 9, and
took several items. The
woman said the stolen
items included: her wal
let, which contained credit
cards, bank cards and her
driver’s license, her grand
daughter’s dance bag, her
granddaughter’s book bag
with school books inside
and a Chrome notebook
computer valued at about
$500. The woman said she
cancelled her credit cards
after her bank notified
her possible fraudulent
transactions the previ
ous night. The woman
said she always locks
her vehicle. In a separate
but related incident, at
about 8:28 p.m. on May
9, a Forsyth man told Sgt.
Willie Brown that some
one tried to enter his silver
2016 GMC Sierra pickup
at the Monroe County
Recreation Department
by breaking out his back
driver’s side window. In
yet another incident, at
about 8:11 p.m. on May
9, a Jackson woman told
Dep. Christian Sawley
she parked her silver 2003
Dodge Durango near the
far end of the parking lot
at the Monroe County
Recreation Department
at about 6:40 p.m. that
night. The woman said she
returned to her vehicle at
about 7:30 p.m. to find her
driver’s side door handle
damaged as if someone
had tried to enter it. The
woman said she later real
ized her purse, which con
tained her wallet, driver’s
license, her children’s social
security cards and her chil
dren’s birth certificates, was
stolen from off the back
seat.
Forsyth driver
charged with DUI
after one-vehicle
wreck on 1-75 N.
A 28-year-old white
Forsyth man was arrested
and charged with DUI
after a one-vehicle wreck
on 1-75 North on May 12.
At about 3:47 a.m., Cpl.
Thomas Haskins was noti
fied by dispatchers of a
white 2004 Ford Explorer
that was about 50 feet off
the road down an embank
ment on 1-75 North near
mile marker 181. The
male driver, who smelled
strongly of alcohol, said he
was traveling in the far left
lane when his right rear
tire blew out, causing his
SUV to lose control and
slide off the road. However,
Haskins saw three blown
out tires on the SUV. The
driver initially said he
drank one beer before
changing his story and
saying he consumed two
beers while playing video
games at a friend’s house.
The driver then failed sev
eral field sobriety tests and
tested a high positive for
alcohol on a field breath
test. Haskins then took
the driver to the Monroe
County Jail, where he
refused a state breath test.
Deputy locates
two-year-old girl
who exited motel
room on May 13
At about 10:05 a.m. on
May 13, Sgt. Todd Haskins
went to the Hwy. 42 North
Shell gas station about a
two-year-old girl wander
ing around. Haskins took
the girl up to the neigh
boring motel, the Best
Western Hilltop Inn, to
see if he could locate the
parents. Haskins found the
girl’s mother and father,
who said they were asleep
in Room 126 when their
child went missing. The
father said he latched
the chain on the motel
room door before going
to bed the previous night.
Haskins then inspected the
door and determined the
chain latch was improperly
installed. He then notified
the motel clerk about the
latch, so it could be fixed.
He also notified a Monroe
County Department of
Family and Children
Services (DFCS) represen
tative about the incident.
The following arrests were reported by the Monroe County Sheriffs Office May 11-17.
