The following incidents were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs Office May 24-June 11.
Deputies capture
Jackson driver
after high-speed
chase in High Falls
A 25-year-old white Jack-
son man was arrested and
charged with felony fleeing
and other charges after a
high-speed chase through
North Monroe County on
June 8. At about 1:43 p.m.,
Sgt. Kevin Williams and
Dep. William Miller saw
a blue 2008 Ford Escape
without a license plate
on Ruby Road. The male
driver saw the deputies and
turned into the driveway
of a vacant lot before ac
celerating back out onto
Ruby Road. Deputies
then chased the SUV onto
Buck Creek Road, where
the driver failed to stop
at stop signs and drove
on the wrong side of the
road. The SUV then turned
left abruptly onto High
Falls Road, once again
ignoring a stop sign, and
continued at 80 mph in
a 35 mph zone. The SUV
then slowed down and
turned onto Blount Road,
where Williams used a pit
maneuver on the SUV. The
driver and a female passen
ger both exited the SUV
and ran into the woods
off Blount Road. Deputies
ran after the driver and
passenger, and Williams
ordered them to get on
the ground. Although the
passenger remained stand
ing, deputies handcuffed
both the driver and the
passenger. Dispatchers
determined the SUV was
unregistered and did not
have valid insurance. They
also determined both the
driver and passenger had
suspended licenses and
both were taken to the
Monroe County Jail. The
driver was also charged
with reckless driving, driv
ing while license suspend
ed, having no insurance,
operating a vehicle without
registration, failure to
display license plate, failure
to maintain lane, improper
passing, failure to stop at a
posted stop sign and driv
ing on the wrong side of
the road. The passenger, a
25-year-old white Jones
boro woman, was also
arrested and charged with
obstruction.
Suspect attempts
break-in at Tracy’s
Towing twice in
single weekend
At about 10:26 a.m. on
June 9, Cpl. Jake Justice
went to Tracy’s Towing
on Hwy. 83 North about a
burglary. The male busi
ness owner told Justice
someone had stolen items
out of several damaged ve
hicles on his lot sometime
between 6:30 p.m. on June
8 and 10:20 a.m. on June
9. The business owner said
when he got to work that
morning, he discovered the
side door to the front lobby
had been tampered with,
and the lock appeared to
have been bent as if some
one had tried to force entry
into the building. The
business owner said he no
ticed doors on some of the
vehicles had been opened
and saw a set of small radio
speakers were left on the
hood of a blue 2008 Ford
Escape. He also found a
car battery that was left
on top of a fence around
the business. The business
owner also told Justice
that a garage door had
been tampered with, and a
car jack and four-way lug
nut wrench were lying in
front of the door. Justice
then took the items into
evidence and turned the
case over to Inv. Rhonda
Seckinger. In a separate
but related incident, the
business owner contacted
Justice again on June
11 and said the suspect
returned to his business on
June 10 and again tried to
force entry.
Forsyth driver
passes out behind
wheel on Bunn Rd.,
charged with DUI
A 56-year-old white
Forsyth man faces a DUI
charge after he allegedly
fell asleep while driving
on Bunn Road on May
24. At about 9:07 p.m.,
Cpl. Timothy Campfield
went to Bunn Road near
Hwy. 18 about a red 2006
Honda Ridgeline stopped
in the road, blocking both
lanes. The male driver
was passed out behind the
wheel with the vehicle in
drive and running. After
several minutes, Campfield
was able to wake the driver
and asked him if he had
any medical problems. The
driver said he had back
problems and also admit
ted to drinking vodka
earlier in the night. After
a short time, the driver
began responding to each
of Campfield’s questions by
saying, “F—, f— f— I’m
f-—.” Campfield then
noticed the driver had
urinated all over himself,
was drooling and had ciga
rette ash all over his shirt.
Campfield then assisted
the driver with exiting his
vehicle, but while he was
standing next to the vehicle
his pants fell down. Camp
field then discovered the
driver had also defecated
in his pants. The driver
then went to his knees and
began urinating himself
again before lying down
in the center of the road.
Campfield tried to move
the driver, who erroneous
ly told Campfield he was
a paraplegic. Campfield,
Sgt. Willie Brown and Dep.
Christian Sawley then suc
cessfully moved the driver
out of the road. Monroe
County EMTs then took
the driver to Monroe
County Hospital. The
driver will also be charged
with being improperly
stopped in the roadway, a
seat belt violation, having a
busted taillight and failure
to maintain lane.
Domestk dispute at
Blount Road home
leads to arrest for
simple battery
A 24-year-old white
Jackson man was arrested
and charged with two
counts of simple battery
(Family Violence) after
a domestic dispute at a
Blount Road home on
June 9. At about 8:54 p.m.,
Dep. Perry Fitzgerald went
to a Blount Road where a
female resident was crying
hysterically while say
ing that her male cousin
was very drunk and had
attacked her. The resident
told Fitzgerald that her
cousin had driven away
in an older model gold
Hyundai SUV prior to the
deputy’s arrival. The resi
dent said her cousin was
arguing with his girlfriend
outside of the home. She
said that she, her cousin’s
brother and his friend all
tried to break up the fight
at which point her cousin
punched his brother in the
face. She said her cousin’s
girlfriend, her cousin’s
brother and his friend all
left the home in order to
get away from her cousin.
The resident said her
mother, who is her cousin’s
aunt, then called 9-1-1,
which further angered her
cousin. The resident said
her cousin then grabbed
the phone away from his
aunt and threw it in the
kitchen trash can. The
resident said her cousin
then went outside to search
for his car keys at which
point she locked the front
glass door and called 9-1-1
a second time. However,
the resident said her cousin
then kicked the glass out of
the door, shattering it, and
re-entered her home. She
said once inside her cousin
jumped on her and hit and
kicked her multiple times,
trying to get the phone
away from her. She said
he also demanded his car
keys, which she gave him
so he would stop hitting
her. She said her cousin
then left and drove himself
to the hospital to get treat
ment for his bloodied leg,
which was injured when
he kicked the glass door.
Fitzgerald then met with
the cousin’s girlfriend, the
cousin’s brother and the
friend who all gave similar
accounts. Dispatchers then
notified Fitzgerald that the
cousin had come to the
Monroe County Sheriff’s
Office to turn himself in.
The cousin told Fitzgerald
he was arguing with his
girlfriend and she started
to hit him on his back.
He said he then held her
to the ground in order to
get her to stop at which
point his family members
came outside to break up
the dispute. The cousin
admitted to kicking the
glass door and showed
Fitzgerald where cuts on
his leg had been treated at
Monroe County Hospital.
Fitzgerald then escorted
the cousin to the Monroe
County Jail, where he was
also charged with criminal
trespass and hindering a
person from making an
emergency phone call.
Driver who just
completed DUI
school arrested in
1-75 South stop
A 26-year-old black Ma
con man was arrested and
charged with DUI (second
offense) after a traffic stop
on 1-75 South on June 10.
At about 9:20 a.m., Dep.
Jacob Robins saw a white
2010 Ford Mustang with
two black racing stripes
failing to maintain its lane
and speeding on 1-75 South
near mile marker 190.
Dispatchers notified Rob
ins that the male driver’s
license was suspended, and
Robins smelled a strong
odor of alcohol coming
from the car. The driver,
who did not have his
license, then began texting,
and Robins ordered the
driver to get off the phone
and get out of the car.
The driver told Robins he
had just completed DUI
school in order to get
his license back and said
he was all over the road
because he was talking on
his phone. He also said he
had consumed alcohol with
his mother and sister the
previous night but had not
had anything to drink since
2 a.m. that morning. The
driver then failed several
field sobriety tests and test
ed positive for alcohol on
a field breath test. Robins
then took the driver to the
Monroe County Jail, where
he tested positive for more
than two times the legal
limit of alcohol on a state
breath test. The driver was
also charged with failure to
maintain lane and driving
while license suspended.
Sunset Circle man
reports on June 10
theft of chopper
bike from yard
At about 7 p.m. on June
10, Cpl. Wade Kendrick
of the Forsyth Police
Department went to a
Sunset Circle home about
a theft. A male resident
told Kendrick that some
one had taken his red
miniature chopper bike
from behind his house.
The resident said he thinks
the bike was taken the
previous day when he left
for several hours to run
errands. Still in possession
of the keys, the resident
said he believes the bike
had to be pushed through
both his and his neighbor’s
yards. The resident said the
bike was red with a large
distinction of chrome, as
well as chrome “sissy bars”
on the back of the bike.
The case was turned over
investigations.
