Above is a picture from the 2017 Fun in the Son camp sponsored by Reconcilation House, Inc. for children whose parents are incarcerated.
Prepare for a
mission, and pray
F un in the Son?
As I write this I am preparing for
our 15th annual Fun in the Son
camp hosted by Reconciliation
House. This scripture comes to mind: The
harvest truly is great, but the laborers are
few, therefore beseech the Lord of
the harvest to send out laborers in
to His harvest. (Luke 10:2)
We have a list of 586 youth 12
to 18 years of age, but we will get
only one percent of them here.
There are many different reasons
the numbers are so low, starting
firstly with the social stigma that
makes the families reluctant to
accept the invitation as they are
dealing with the silent shame of
their situation.
Secondly, some of the children
do not know they have an incar
cerated parent so their guardians will not
allow them to attend to protect them from
the “truth”.
Thirdly, each year we struggle to get the
laborers for this harvest.Reconciliation
House Inc. is a one hundred percent vol
unteer organization that operates with the
laborers that the Lord sends as an answer
to prayer and according to His will. I often
feel like David as his assignment began in
1 Samuel 22:2—and everyone that was in
distress, in debt, and discontented gathered
and He became captain over them.
Believe me I am thankful for the help.
Now it is time to focus on the
theme “Fun in the Son.”
As I am writing this, making
calls, writing letters and sending
emails of request, the Fun is in
view. Lastly, the percentage is low
because they are not sure of the
Fun in the Son. Please pray with
me for our youth and for mentors
and others that can show them
that there is truly fun in a rela
tionship with the Son.
Angela Johnson is the director of
Reconciliation House in Yates-
ville, a ministry for those who have been
incarcerated and their families. The Pastors
Corner is sponsored by the Monroe County
Ministerial Association, which meets on the
second Thursday of each month at 8 a.m. at
The Pickled Okra, 33 W. Johnston St. on the
Square.

How you con help with 'Fun in the Son'
Greetings,
I am excited about starting a partner
ship. Sending at-risk youth to our sleep
away camp July 27-29 would be a great
way to enrich their lives.
Fun in the Son camp wants to serve at-
risk youth this summer and would love
to work with you to get these kids to our
camp. Offering partial scholarship on
a limited basis to help offset the cost of
camp and other donations and discounts
could let most youth attend with no cost
to their parent.
This is how you can help:
1. Help contact participants (ages
12-18 or entering 6th grade next school
year or finishing 12th grade this school
year).
2. Help families with transportation
needs to get here to the camp grounds
(we do offer limited transportation).
If your organization or church could
use their bus or van it would be great.
Mileage for individuals who use their
personal vehicles will be tax deductible.
3. Volunteers are needed to serve as
counselors, video, first aid, lifeguards,
security and in many other positions
that are available Volunteer applications
are available.
4. Donations: meals, snacks, book
bags, school supplies, and all cash dona
tions are tax deductible.
5. There are projects we need to com
plete prior to camp, including building
cabins, making walking trails, clearing
trails and much more.
We also need lots of prayer. There is no
number for it; it is first and foremost and
always.
Here is a list of the highlights of camp:
1. Tie dye T-shirts with a different twist
to allow personal designs
2. Archery with emphasis on how
to use it for furthering education with
scholarships and even entering the
Olympics.
3. Fishing
4. Dive in Movie
5. Bedtime story: You are special.
6. Hayride
7. Concert on the lawn (If your orga
nization or church has a special talent it
would like to share, let me know and I
will get you in contact with our concert
coordinator.)
8. School supply give away
9. Each parent or guardian is asked to
write a love letter to their camper to be
mailed in with the application or sent in
a sealed envelope to the camp with the
youth.
**** This is a highlight for most and
very touching.
Thank you for support and participa
tion in helping to serve our future. Call
me with any questions or comments.
Blessings
Angela Johnson
