“You made it and that’s
what it’s all about,” said
Annette Lucear, Commu
nity Improvement Coali
tion of Monroe County
(CICMC) executive
director. Lucear applauded
the campers for their hard
work as she welcomed
them to their closing day
of camp.
About 50 children, rang
ing from the ages of 5-14
attended the free summer
camp the entire week of
June, for the chance to
participate in activities
such as reading, prayer,
arts and crafts, field trips,
and sports. The camp took
place at the Recreation
Department Youth Center,
where director, Keith Edge,
commended the children
for their well-behaved
manners throughout the
month. “I always look
forward to having you guys
here,” Edge said.
When the idea for the
summer camp was first in
troduced by Major George
Foster, he vowed to stick
with the program. “We
have made this a reality for
19 years—a location for a
safe and productive learn
ing environment. It has
been an honor to be a part
of something like this.”
Major Foster continues
to be an important role
model in the camp each
year, encouraging and
motivating the children to
grow. “If we are not provid
ing for them, they cannot
learn. I am committed to
the youth because of that.”
Monroe County commis
sioner Larry Evans later
thanked Foster for being
there from the start, as well
as many others. “We ap
preciate how much you all
help with the camp every
year. It’s just a wonderful
educational opportunity

for the kids.”
As the closing
ceremony of the
camp continued,
Forsyth Mayor
Eric Wilson
spoke directly
to the children,
asking what
they had learned
throughout the
month of June.
Excited respons

in the crowd of
parents.
“I am so glad

And as a way to success

a cookout with inflatable

Each summer, more and
