Jim Cody, owner of Inter ceptor Public Safety Products at 1110 Indian Springs Drive, died at Coli seum Hospital in Macon. Cody started Intercep tor in 1994 in Milner. He wound up partnering with Mac Brown of Forsyth and they moved the business here in 2005. Brown said Cody, who was not vaccinated, came down with COVID about 8 weeks ago. Brown said that Cody had moved from his home in Wil liamson, Ga. to his second home at Lake Sinclair to recuperate. But Brown said his fam ily couldn’t get him on the phone at Lake Sinclair and finally had to go get him and take him to the hospital. Cody’s stepson Josh Huff told the Reporter he took Cody to the Coliseum emergency room. He said the doctor ordered Cody some Ivermectin. But Huff said that the chief medi cal director at Coliseum “slapped the doctor’s hand” and refused to allow it. Huff said he’s not happy about it. “I think doctors are working inside of a politi cal and financial box,” said Huff. Huff noted studies have shown Ivermectin is helpful for COVID patients but said top officials con tinue to say there haven’t been enough studies. “There could be a lot more lives saved,” said Huff. Brown said Cody contin ued to worsen and doctors took him off life support on Saturday. Brown said Cody was cremated and said there may be a funeral at a later date. Brown said Cody’s wife Leslie is the Interceptor bookkeeper. Interceptor outfits vehicles and other equipment for police and fire departments. Brown is retired but still owns an interest in Interceptor. He said he doesn’t think Interceptor will be going anywhere because the company has enough good people to keep it going in Cody’s absence. If not, Brown said the company has plenty of competitors who would like to buy the Forsyth business. CODY A Forsyth truck driver said he looked down when he spilled his drink leading to a collision with an oncoming truck pulling another truck on Hwy. 42 south on Tuesday afternoon, July 6. Ronnie Lemons, 53, of Forsyth, was driving a 2021 tractor trailer for Concrete Supply Co. of Fayetteville when he drifted into the oncoming lane and struck a truck and trailer being pulled by Blake Brookshire, 35 of Hoschton for Poultry House Solutions. Lemons tractor trailer dropped parts all over the road and the engine caught fire when it came to a rest just south of Hwy. 42 s intersection with Maynards Mill Road. Brookshires truck flipped on its side as did the trailer and the truck he was pulling. Deputy Dalton Mosely said all three vehicles are totaled. Monroe County firefighters put out the fire. Mosely charged Lemons with failure to maintain lane. The accident, which hap pened around 1:20 p.m., was finally cleared around 3 p.m. (Photo/Will Davis) Molester gets 15 years in prison By Will Davis publisher@mymcnnet A 19-year-old Monroe County man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday, June 30 for molesting a female relative when she was 4. Justin Hewett was found guilty of child molestation and sexual battery by a Monroe County jury after about two hours of delibera tion. He was found not guilty of a more severe charge of aggravated sexual battery. Judge Tommy Wilson sentenced him to 15 years in prison and 5 years probation. District attorney Jonathan Adams had offered him 5 years in prison before going to trial but Hewett and his public defender Alex Knox turned it down. See PRISON Page 6A DEATHS »>6A Ryan Williams Combative Union Hill woman gets Tasered 6 OfifiOS “1341b 6 By Steve Reece stevereece@gmail.com A combative Forsyth woman had to be tasered into submission after being charged with obstruction around 5:05 p.m. on July 3, ac cording to police reports. Forsyth police Cpl. Kimberly Bar nett said she was at the intersection of Lee Street at Patrol Road when she was flagged down by a man who told her that he had just been rear ended by the truck behind her and was asked by the driver to pull to the carwash located at 101 Patrol Road. Barnett told him to go ahead and pull into the car wash and she waved for the truck to go around her to the car wash. Once at the carwash, Barnett spoke with Joshua Jackson who said he was on Railroad Avenue waiting on traffic to clear on Lee Street when he was hit from behind by the Chevy Silverado truck, damaging his 2021 Toyota Corolla. He said the driver, Daviesiar Tyshay Brantley, 30, of 235 Union Hill Drive, Apt. 11-A, asked him to pull over to the car wash when he saw Barnett’s patrol vehicle. Brantley told Barnett she was leaving Advance Auto and as she turned out on to Railroad Avenue, she was unable to stop be fore striking the Corolla. Brantley said she didn’t have her license. After run ning Brantley’s name, the corporal learned she had a warrant out of Bibb County and grabbed her left wrist, telling her she was under arrest. Brantley then began arguing with Barnett saying she just wanted to talk, and Barnett told her they would talk as soon as she was handcuffed. Officer Clay Maddox helped turn her around against the patrol car and they were able to get the handcuffs on her right wrist. Brantley then began to twist her body, push off the patrol car and snatch ing away. The city of Forsyth reclaimed sponsorship of the 2021 fireworks show after giving it up to the county last year due to COVID. No problems were reported and a good time was had by all.
