I don’t know that we pay them enough to deal with this.’ - Sheriff Brad Freeman By Steve Reece stevereece@gmail.com An 18-year-old Monroe County Jail inmate awaiting trial for raping and killing his aunt at her Forsyth home in 2019 is now also charged with arson for starting a fire in his cell on Friday, July 9. Dante Krieger, 18, was charged with first degree arson after jailers found he had used a lighter to start a fire with some toilet paper while in solitary confine ment. Krieger has been in the Monroe County Jail for two years since he was charged with killing his aunt, Tryeflue O’Neal, 42, at her Tingle Road home on July 14,2019. Here’s what happened according to the report: Krieger had already been moved to another cell for mental health observation after he was caught bran dishing an ink pen like a weapon. After several orders from Inv. Sam Leggett to drop the pen, Krieger finally complied. Krieger was not on suicide watch and there fore was allowed to have personal effects. See KILLER Page 6A Dante Krieger 1-75 guard rail saves Forsyth driver A Forsyth woman and two teenage passengers escaped serious injury when she collided with another vehicle on 1-75 south, careened up an embankment and then landed on top of a guardrail that stopped her just shy of oncoming traffic near the 1-475 split Monday. Jane Wright, 36, of Constitution Drive, For syth, said she was on her way to the river on 1-75 south around 4:55 p.m. near the rest area when she tried to move her 2017 Ford Explorer from the middle lane to the left hand lane. She said she didn t see the 2014 Volkswagen Passat there until it was too late. Her back left side collided with the car, driven by Deven Outlaw, 19, of Shady Dale Drive in southeastern Monroe County. That sent Wrights vehicle barreling off the road and up the grass hill in the median before she jumped a guard rail along the northbound lanes and landed on top of it. Outlaw was treated for an injured hand at the scene but declined an ambulance ride. Both vehicles had to be towed by Watts Wrecker Service, according to the report by Georgia state trooper Edward Moskaly. County buys Falls View restaurant for fire house and community room Monroe County has bought the Falls View restaurant to convert it to a fire station and community room. By Will Davis publisher@mymcr.net It’s official. Monroe County on Tuesday bought the Falls View Restaurant in High Falls to make room for a new High Falls fire station and community center. The county reportedly paid $347,000 for the 2.3- acre tract and restaurant at 42 Towaliga River Drive. A fire station will be added to the restuarant which will be converted to barracks and a commu nity room. Restaurant owner Ricci Linn Estes announced on her Facebook page on Tuesday that she will be selling restaurant tables and chairs after finalizing the deal with the county. She told the Reporter last week that God had guided her to buy Falls View three years ago. She turned it into a thriving enterprise. And now she feels like she’s being led to sell it. “I don’t feel like I should hold up Monroe County’s ability to have a better fire response,” said Estes. Monroe County ap proached Estes about buying her property after a deal to build the fire station on High Falls State Park property fell through. Contrary to some rumors, Estes said the county never threat ened to condemn her land for a fire station. She said she was inundated with upset employees and customers after this See FALLS Page 6A
