Old Mill Market Company
The family-owned business
located at 94 East Adams
Street, headed by Monroe
County commissioner
Eddie Rowland and his
wife Kathy, also sells locally
sourced produce, meats,
and gifts. Since its open
ing back in early May, the
market has become a local
hit. Last Saturday forty-
four separate businesses
were added to the location
when they officially opened
as the Rowlands’ daughter,
Katie Rowland cut the rib
bon for the Makers Mart
in a ceremony attended
by vendors, guests, and of
course eager shoppers.
Katie told the Reporter
they had been trying to de
cide for months what to do
with the large vacant space
adjoining the Old Mill
Market Company. Even a
coffee shop came into con
sideration among the many
ideas. Finally, after visiting
the 7th Street Salvage in
Macon which sells lo
cally produced items, Katie
became inspired to create
a spot for local makers,
artisans, artists, and small
businesses to sell their
products and spearheaded
the project. The large space

turned out to be the perfect
area for selling everything
from gifts from Red Dirt
Vagabond to womens
clothing and accessories
at the Sage and Sparrow
space. “Instead of going to
one store, you’re going to
forty-four at one location,”
Katie said.
Katie said once news got
out about the new busi
ness venture, it exploded
by word of mouth, and
all available spaces were
quickly taken. She said they
never had to advertise for
makers and now there is a
waiting list that is growing
daily. Makers pay between
$50 for a tablespace up to
$425 per month for a large
booth area. Utilities are
included and as a bonus,
makers don’t have to be
there to sell. Shoppers can
buy their products any
time The Old Mill Market
Company is open. The
company has all Makers
Mart items scanned into
their computers and for
a small percentage of the
profit, handles the sale.
This is beneficial because
many makers have full
time jobs and can’t spend
daylight hours at the mart.
There are many unique
locally made items
throughout the Makers
Mart including macrame,
jewelry, and paintings
available at All Good Work
and custom metal artwork
from Middle GA Metal
Works. There are quite a
few woodworkers selling
amazingly beautiful pieces
of wooden art such as Da
vid Green Timber Works,
Phillip English Woodwork
ing, and McGraw’s Cus
tom Woodworking. Also
included among gift selec
tions are scented candles,
goafs milk products,
pottery, and perfumes. The
list goes on. It’s a place you
need to see with your own
eyes.
Katie said, “We want all
our makers to be success
ful and we’d just love for
everyone to come here and
make this their shopping
destination for birthdays
and holidays.” She said
everyone is gearing up for
Christmas and the Makers
Mart is the perfect place
for gifts. To learn more
