INCIDENT REPORTS . December 29, 2021
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriff s Office.
Willis Circle man arrested
in his underwear
A man was on the front porch
of a home on Willis Circle in his
underwear and a white tank top
yelling, punching the front door
and kicking items across the
porch when deputies Hanna Hile
and Tyler Rodgers arrived around
2:19 a.m. on Dec. 3 and arrested
him for disorderly conduct.
The deputies tried to reason
with the man, but he continued
to yell profane words, punching,
and kicking items on the porch.
After he was handcuffed, he kept
trying to pull away while yelling.
Hile spoke with the complainant
who told her this isn’t the first
incident that she’s dealt with.
She stated there’s been similar
problems in the past. The man
was taken to jail and charged with
disorderly conduct.
Talladega man arrested on
drug and weapon charges
A Talladega, Ala. man was
caught with drugs after a stop
by Lt. John Thompson on 1-75 S
near the weigh station after failing
to maintain lane in a black 2021
Ford EcoSport on Dec. 9 around
8:50 a.m. Thompson smelled
marijuana as he approached the
SUV and asked the driver for
his license whose hands were
shaking as he passed them to the
lieutenant. Thompson could also
see a 30-round magazine beside
the gear shifter and had the man
step to the rear of his vehicle.
After learning the man had a
suspended license, Thompson
found a small amount of mari
juana and 10 ecstasy pills in a
pill bottle in his left rear pocket.
When asked if he had a gun he
answered, “Look in that stack of
cards and I have a gun permit in
there.” A loaded Glock 30 was
found in the driver’s door and
added to the evidence bag. The
driver was turned over to the jail
staff and charged with failure
to maintain lane, driving on a
suspended license, ecstasy posses
sion and possession of a firearm
during the commission of a
felony. Tracy’s Towing took away
the EcoSport.
Unlicensed drunk driver
unsure where he's headed
Deputy Jonathan Joyner
responded to an accident involv
ing a 2007 Toyota RAV4 near
Johnstonville Road on 1-75 S
around 7:17 a.m. on Dec. 11
and a Pomona, Calif, man was
arrested for DUI and driving
without a license. Joyner had the
uninjured driver step from the
car and the man gave the deputy
a California ID card instead of
a driver’s license. Joyner could
smell alcohol and noticed he was
unsteady and had bloodshot eyes
and asked him had he drank any
alcohol. The man replied he had
been drinking, but it had been a
while. He said he wasn’t sure what
kind of drinks they were, as he
was not buying them.
He was unable to tell Joyner
where he was going, but knew
he was coming from California.
When Joyner asked him to blow
into his portable breathalyzer, he
instead sucked in. Once he did it
correctly, it returned with a high
positive reading. He then agreed
to a roadside sobriety test which
he failed.
He was cited for DUI, driving
while license suspended, and
following too closely and turned
over to jail staff.
Fla. man arrested after fail
ing roadside sobriety test
A BOLO was issued around
2 a.m. on Dec. 11 on a driver
in a white 2007 GMC on 1-75 S
near Johnstonville Road driving
recklessly and speeding. A caller
said the white van had stopped
on the shoulder near Hwy. 18
where Cpl. Larry Sullivan found
a West Palm Beach man sitting
in the vehicle with his door open.
Sullivan asked him if he was
alright, and the man responded
in slurred speech with “van” and
“Miami”.
Sullivan could smell alcohol and
asked him for his license. After
a brief search, the driver handed
him an El Salvadorian passport.
The corporal had him step from
the van and he walked to the back
nearly falling over. When asked if
he had been drinking, he replied
that he had. He produced a high
reading on the breathalyzer and
agreed to a sobriety test. After
missing 12 heel to toe steps, using
his hands for balance, improper
turns and losing his balance, he
was handcuffed and arrested
for DUI and driving without a
license.
Man hits Walmart security
officer with scooter
A man riding a scooter tried to
exit Walmart on North Lee Street
with a basketful of items with
out paying on Dec. 11 but was
stopped by security and told to
return to the store. When asked
about his receipt, the man hit the
security officer with the scooter.
Officer David Asbell spoke with
the man who admitted to not
paying for the items. The security
officer told Asbell he didn’t want
to charge him with theft but did
want him charged for hitting him
with the scooter. After watching
video of the incident, Asbell cited
the man for disorderly conduct.
He was also banned from
Walmart property.
Truck driver high on drugs
The Monroe County dispatcher
sent out a BOLO on a white 2019
Kenworth semi-truck on Dec. 11
around 2 p.m. after several call
ers said the driver was traveling
on the shoulder, almost striking
other vehicles and was all over
the road on 1-75 S.
Deputy Jonathan Joyner spotted
the Altamonte Springs driver
driving erratically near Hwy. 18,
going off the road then jerking
back on, nearly hitting other
vehicles. After the stop was initi
ated, the man continued at 50
mph, still failing to maintain his
lane while pointing a finger out
the window. He finally moved
the semi to the right shoulder
but continued at a slow speed.
Deputy John Cochran arrived,
and Joyner then pulled in front of
the truck and was able to stop it
just north of Rumble Road.
The driver’s eyes were blood
shot, his pupils were pinpoint,
and his speech was unintelligible.
The deputy then had the man
step from the truck and hand
cuffed him. He denied being on
drugs or medicines and gave
consent to a search. After being
taken for a blood test, he was
cited for failure to maintain lane
and DUI-drugs.
Woman claims friend
hit her with his fist
Deputy Jonathan Joyner re
sponded to a domestic dispute
call on Bowdoin Road where
a woman told him on Dec. 12
around 12:14 a.m. that a man had
hit her and left her home. She
told Joyner the two are friends
and he went to her house to
check on her due to her being
sick. During the visit, the two got
into an argument about things
she found in his phone and got
into a physical altercation. She
said he struck her with a closed
fist on top of her head. The
deputy saw no marks or bruises
on the woman, nor were there
any witnesses.
Joyner referred her to Mag
istrate Court for a pre warrant
application and told her of the
services available from the Mon
roe County Sheriff’s Office victim
services unit. He tried to call the
man to issue a trespass warning
but was unable to make contact.
Columbus man
arrested for DUI
Dispatch gave deputies a BOLO
around 3:36 a.m. on Dec. 12 on a
white 2019 Hyundai Tucson after
callers reported the car was fail
ing to maintain lane, had stopped
in the middle lane on 1-75 S near
Hwy. 18, and had nearly struck
the median wall several times.
Deputy Matthew Mimbs saw the
Hyundai nearly strike the guard
rail a mile south of the 1-475 split
and initiated a stop.
The Columbus man handed
Mimbs his entire wallet when
asked for his license. He said
he was traveling and must have
missed his exit to Macon. Mimbs
could smell alcohol on his breath
and noticed his eyes were glassy
and bloodshot. He was unsteady
as he walked back to Mimbs’
patrol car and was using his car
for balance.
During a sobriety test he
stepped off the line several times
and failed to touch heel to toe on
all 9 steps. A breathalyzer indi
cated a high positive reading for
breath alcohol, and he was taken
to jail and cited for DUI and
failure to maintain lane.
Unemployed woman ar
rested for shoplifting
A 38-year-old Macon woman
who claimed she recently lost
her job was arrested for shoplift
ing from the Dollar General on
Hwy. 87. Around 8:33 a.m. on
Dec. 13, Deputy Dustin Ramsey
answered the call and found the
suspect sitting inside her car in
the store’s parking lot. Ramsey
asked her what happened, and
she replied she was going through
a hard time and had recently lost
her job making $4,000 a month.
Now she is making nothing, and
that Christmas was coming. She
also told the deputy that she was
an idiot. Ramsey asked her what
she tried to take, and she told him
it was just some candy and cake
mix. The store manager said she
wished to press charges and after
viewing surveillance video, the
woman was arrested and taken to
jail. She was allowed to leave her
car in the parking lot until her
husband was able to pick it up.
The following arrests were reported by the Monroe County Sheriffs Office and Forsyth
Police Department. An arrest means someone has been charged with a crime, but the
law considers them innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
