INCIDENT REPORTS . January 5, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriff s Office.
Man arrested on warrant
takes drugs to jail
A Louisiana man was arrested
on a warrant after a white Chev
rolet Cruze was stopped for fol
lowing too closely on 1-75 S near
Tift College Drive around 8:39
a.m. on Dec. 4. Deputy Dustin
Ramsey could smell marijuana
coming from the vehicle that held
two occupants as he took their
licenses. The passenger, a 31-year-
old man from Natchitoches, La.,
was found to have warrants out of
Clayton County.
Deputy Jonathan Joyner as
sisted Ramsey in having the men
step from the car and the deputies
asked about the marijuana smell.
The driver admitted there was
a small amount inside the car,
but the passenger denied know
ing anything. A small amount of
pot was found in a wooden box
along with an open container of
Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey
Whiskey.
The driver was issued warnings
for following too closely and for
the loose marijuana and cited for
the open container then released.
Clayton County said they wished
to place a hold on the passenger,
and he was handcuffed, placed in
the rear of a patrol car, and taken
to jail. After he was searched and
booked, Ramsey returned to his
car and noticed a small piece of
a plastic bag shoved between the
seats which contained a white
powdery substance.
The man admitted leaving
cocaine in the deputy’s vehicle
and is now awaiting warrants for
cocaine possession and cross
ing guard lines with contraband.
Clayton County was notified he
will not be available for pickup.
Man on noisy bike locked up
A Berner Avenue man com
plained to officer Arthur Mus-
selman on Dec. 12 about a black
sports motorcycle that was speed
ing and driving recklessly up and
down Railroad Avenue multiple
times a day and had been doing
so for approximately a month. He
said the motorcycle would rev its
engine loudly several times then
come speeding down Railroad
Avenue past his home before
pausing at the intersection of
Railroad Avenue and Berner Av
enue before heading down Ber
ner Avenue towards Tiff College
Drive. He showed Musselman
video of the motorcycle speed
ing by his location on Railroad
Avenue before stopping at the in
tersection and proceeding down
Berner Avenue. As the officer was
talking with the complainant,
they heard a motorcycle revving
up the street and the complainant
stated, “Here he comes now.”
When Musselman saw the bike,
he entered his patrol vehicle and
made a stop on Berner Avenue.
The driver told him he didn’t
have a license and Musselman
took him into custody for driving
without a license and reckless
driving. He noticed there was no
license plate on the motorcycle
and asked about his registration
and the driver said he had bought
the motorcycle a month previ
ously and had not registered it or
gotten a license plate for it.
The motorcyclist was unable to
provide any form of government
identification and the furtive
nature of his responses to the offi
cer’s questions made it appear he
might be concealing his identity.
He was cited for reckless driv
ing, speeding, driving without
a license, no insurance, and
registration/tag requirements and
turned over to jail personnel. The
suspect’s aunt later brought a U.S.
passport to confirm his identity.
Officers receive minor inju
ries arresting wanted man
A clerk at the Comfort Inn
on Harold G. Clarke Parkway
summoned police after 3 guests
trashed a room on Dec. 13. Offi
cers Stacey Penamon and Richard
Maddox responded and the clerk
told them 2 women and a man
were on the property trying to
rent a room for the night. She
said the women had been guests
for 3 nights prior but had checked
out earlier in the day due to lack
of funds. When housekeeping
went to clean the room, they
found it had been trashed and
had some damage. The manager
was contacted, and he wanted
individuals criminally trespassed
from the property. The clerk told
the officers the individuals were
outside of the hotel sitting in the
gazebo.
The women told Penamon and
Maddox they had been staying
in the hotel the past 3 nights but
did not have the money for an
other night’s stay. They said the
man had come to visit and had
tried to rent a room for them but
was denied by the desk clerk. The
officers asked for their identifica
tion, but neither had ID on them.
After running their names, it was
learned that one of the women
had an active warrant from Jones
County and was given a seat in
the rear of a patrol car.
The man gave a name that came
back not on file. While the of
ficers were trying to get his iden
tity, he began removing bags and
personal items from the gazebo
and taking them off the property.
When Maddox had exhausted all
means using the name and date
of birth the man had given them,
Maddox called out to him who
was now standing in the driveway
of Comfort Inn to come talk. He
answered he was removing their
property as was requested and
grabbed a bag and started across
the street to the Shell Station
parking lot, ignoring Maddox’s
request to stop until he was at the
station.
Maddox noticed he was sweat
ing profusely for such a cool day
and again asked him for his name
and date of birth and he again
gave the same name. The officer
told him he did not believe that
the name was correct and asked
him again for his correct name.
The man began acting erratically
and speaking loudly while look
ing everywhere except at Maddox
trying to draw attention from
bystanders.
Maddox told him repeat
edly to sit down and to keep his
hands out of his pockets and
as he stepped closer to him, he
immediately put his hands into
his front waistband area. Mad
dox then grabbed for his right
arm and the man hurled himself
against the officer trying to knock
him down. Maddox grabbed him
and threw him to the ground and
the officers gave him commands
to put his hands behind his back
and to stop resisting. Penamon
was able to place a handcuff on
his left wrist, but he refused to
give them his right arm he had
beneath him. Eventually they
were able to cuff him, but he tried
several times to get the officers off
him by kicking them.
After he was put in the rear of
a patrol car, EMS checked minor
scratches and abrasions to his
face and head and he was then
taken to jail where his identity
was learned and found to have
active warrants from Bibb and
Wilkinson Counties. Warrants
will be obtained against the man
for giving false information and
2 counts felony obstruction.
Penamon sustained a minor
injury to his left thumb and hand
and Maddox had a minor injury
to his left hand. They were both
treated and released from Mon
roe County Hospital.
Suspected intoxicated driver
blows 0.00 on breath test
An Atlanta man was arrested
after failing to maintain lane
on 1-75 S near North Lee Street
around 10:20 p.m. on Dec. 13 by
deputy Shania Hawkins. Hawkins
initiated a stop, and the driver
took the exit at mile marker 188
and then turned left onto Collier
Road, failing to stop at a stop sign
and continuing towards Forsyth.
Hawkins activated her siren
and as they approached Volume
Chevrolet, a Forsyth police of
ficer tried to block the road and
the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado
swerved and went into the grass.
The driver then turned onto Rus
sell Parkway and into the parking
lot of the La Quinta Hotel before
coming to a final stop.
Hawkins ordered the man to
turn off the vehicle and show his
hands and he threw his keys out
the window. She then had him get
out and had him walk backwards
to the sound of her voice.
She could smell alcohol on the
driver and in the pickup and
found an open can of Miller
High Life tucked underneath the
driver’s seat. The man told her
he was not drinking because he
“did not get the chance to”. The
officer read him his rights and he
was arrested and taken to jail. At
the jail, he was given a breath test
and blew 0.00. He will be charged
with failure to yield to emergency
vehicle, failure to stop at a stop
sign and open container. He was
also given a warning for failure to
maintain lane.
Expensive doors
missing from business
Ten doors valued at $2,000 each
were reported stolen to deputy
Charles Bryson by the owner of
Roof Core at 921 Benson Ham
Road around 10:30 a.m. on
Dec. 13. Bryson was told that
10 refinished heart pine doors
had been stored upstairs at the
business for around two years
and the owner was unsure when
they were taken. He said it was
sometime between December
2019 and now. There was no sign
of forced entry into the building,
and the security cameras were
not working.

to maintain lane near on 1-75
S North Lee Street on Dec. 13
around 11:19 p.m. and a Bacon-
ton man was found to have a

search was conducted upon the
arrival of Cpl. Larry Sullivan.
About 7 pounds of marijuana was
found in the trunk and the driver
was taken to the Monroe County
jail and charged with failure to
maintain lane and possession
with intent to distribute mari
juana.
Wet concrete slows
package delivery
The freshly poured driveway
of a home on Fairway Run was
damaged on Dec. 14 when a
FedEx truck driver drove over
wet concrete around 2 p.m. The
homeowner told deputy Charles
Bryson construction crew work
ers had just finished pouring
the concrete and were eating
lunch and the mail carrier was
at the mailbox at the end of the
driveway when the FedEx truck
turned in and then backed out
into the street.
The driver told the deputy there
were no cones or markings at the
driveway and she could not tell
the driveway had wet concrete.
She said once she pulled onto the
driveway her truck sank and she
backed out.

fice while walking down Hwy.
