Monroe students will start
next school year on Aug. 1
Monroe County Board of Education
approved a school calendar for 2022-23
with classes starting on Monday, Aug. 1
and ending on Wednesday, May 24,2023.
The 180-day schedule includes a Fall
Break of five days in October, five days at
Thanksgiving, 13 days for the Christmas-
New Year Break and five days in April for
Spring Break.
The calendar includes 10 “in-service”
days when teachers are required to report
to school but students are not. There are
also holidays for both students and staff
on Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
and Presidents Day/Winter Break (2).
Mary Persons graduation is planned for
Friday, May 26.
Monroe County Schools designed three
school calendars with slight variations and
asked for input from board members than
from staff, parents, students and others
interested through an on-line survey. It
said that 665 votes (56 percent) favored
the school calendar selected.

volunteers, will distribute
food packages provided by
Middle Georgia Community
Food Bank on Wednesday,
Jan. 12 at Christ United
Methodist Church, 417 N.
Frontage Road, Forsyth.
Recipients should begin lining
up at 10 a.m. Future monthly
distributions are planned for
the second Wednesday of

MC Farm
Georgia’s
Monroe County Farm
Bureau (MCFB) was
recognized as one of the
top county Farm Bureau
programs in the state dur
ing the organizations 84th
annual convention held
on Jekyll Island Dec. 5-7.
The county chapter was
named a finalist for the
prestigious McKemie
Award - the highest honor
that a county Farm Bureau
in the state can receive - in
recognition of the activi
ties it sponsored during
the past year to promote
agriculture.
MCFB was one of nine
county Farm Bureaus to
be recognized as a finalist
in the medium member
ship category. Decatur
County won the award.

outgoing MCFB presi
dent. Clete Sanders is the
incoming president.

Corbin Family to sing at
Liberty Baptist
The Corbin Family of Flovilla
will be singing at Liberty
Baptist Church, 3043 High
Falls Road, on Saturday, Jan.
15 at 6 p.m. All are invited to
attend and be blessed. There
will be refreshments after the
singing.

Food Pantry
In addition to its regular food
distribution in January, St.
James Baptist Church, 110
James St., Forsyth will also
have a drive-through food
pantry on Wednesday, Jan.
19. All who are in need of
food are invited to come to

Bicentennial Exhibit

The Monroe County Bicen
tennial exhibit, sponsored by
Georgia Power and the Mon
roe County Historical Society,
is on display in the Monroe
County Annex atrium. A new
exhibit is displayed each
month. The theme in Januanry
is “Writers & Artists”. The exhibit
is free and open to the public

LUCAS Chest Compres
sion System.

The LUCAS device is an
easy-to-use mechanical
chest compression device
that helps deliver high-
quality chest compressions
to sudden cardiac arrest
patients, in the field, on the
move, and in the hospital.
Operation Round Up is
funded by voluntary con
tributions from CGEMC
members to the CGEMC
Foundation. Participants
have their monthly bill
rounded up to the nearest
dollar to fund Operation
Round Up. The average
Operation Round Up
participants donation is 50
cents per month, but that
“change” adds up to make a
big difference in local com
munities.
