Trailer park owner gets
Mullis’ wife of 58 years,
Mary, watched as the trial
unfolded. Mullis has been
involved with the trailer
park for about 20-25 years
since he retired from the
postal service, making
minor repairs, collecting
rent, and general yard work.
Buford said Mullis already
went to court in 2015 and
pled guilty to a lesser charge
on a 9-count indictment
and was given probation. He
said the DA dismissed the
charges, but they are being
resurfaced.
Buford said the alleged
molestations occurred
between 2013 and 2015 and
now here we are in 2022.
“Were talking about some
thing that’s 8 or 9 years old.”
Mullis has cancer and blood
clots behind his knees,
breathes at 60% of normal
capacity, and has heart prob
lems, taking 15 pills a day.
One of the girls, who is
now 15, was called into
the courtroom and gave
a detailed account of the
molestations and explained
why she waited so long
to come forward. Buford
grilled her on details of the
events that had occurred in
the RV such as the colors of
the bedspread and walls and
whether the floor had tile
or carpet. He also wanted to
know the exact dates. She
told the attorney she had no
memory of those details.

40 years for molestation
By Steve Reece
and Will Davis
Jimmy Mullis, a 77-year-
old retired postal carrier and
trailer park owner in Juliette,
will likely spend the rest of
his life in prison after he
was sentenced to 40 years in
prison on Tuesday for child
molestation.
Five different girls testified
in the 2-day trial that they
were molested while living
at Creekside Mobile Home
Park, the trailer park on Ju
liette Road owned by Mullis
and his wife Mary. The jury
took about an hour to find
Mullis guilty on all counts.
Assistant district attorney
Dorothy Hull had argued
that the trailer park was
not a safe place for children
and was the perfect hunting
ground for the defendant,
and the unsupervised little
girls running around were
his perfect prey. She said
Mullis, a mail carrier for
32 years, was in the perfect
position as the owner of the
property to exercise his de
spicable urges with financial
leverage over some of the
residents.
She said Mullis knew how
to attract kids, giving little
girls rides around the trailer
park on his golf cart and giv
ing them candy from time
to time. She added that he
would also sometimes take
them to the nearby store for
a soft drink or a snack. Hull
said 2 little girls, one 7-years-
old and the other around
9 or 10 came into this
environment around 2012
and they especially liked the
rides around the park. She
said Mullis would occasion
ally have one of the girls sit
in his lap and she would
hold the steering wheel.
These were the times when
he would sexually abuse the
girls, touching the vagina of
one or grinding against the
other. She said he did this
more than once.
One of the girls began
to avoid him but the other
continued to trust him and
on one occasion he took her
to an RV, put her on a bed
then took off her clothes.
After touching her, he told
her not to tell her mom or
his wife Mary. While this
was happening, her mother
was searching for her and
called Mullis who then took
the child home. After this
incident, the girl also started
to avoid Mullis. Soon after,
her mother was able to buy
a house and left the park in
2014.
The girls kept the molesta
tions to themselves not even
mentioning to each other
what had happened until
one night in February 2019
when the mother and two
sisters went to Ingles and
one of the girls went inside
while the other stayed with
own the trailer park one
day.
“It’s the money thing,”
said Mullis. “They
bragged they were
gonna own that trailer
park.”
Mullis said the girls’
mother was also mad
at him because he was
demanding she pay $50
more per month be
cause her boyfriend was
staying with them.
Mullis said the mother
also got angry when he
confronted her about
having children not
one girl was not going to
school one day and asked
her sister why. She was told
Mullis had touched her
sister and that it had hap
pened multiple times. The
girl told her that her mom
knew and was trying to find
another place to live. She
said her mom was afraid if
she told anyone they would
be kicked out of the trailer
park. The woman then
notified a social worker, and
the girls were interviewed by
the Care Cottage. Charges
were dropped against Mullis
in the incident. The girl’s
mother’s former boWriend
is currently in prison after
being convicted in Monroe
County for aggravated as
sault and raping the girls.
But Mullis took the stand
on Tuesday in his defense,
saying that the victims and
their mother had been tell
ing people that she would

her mother and the two got
into an argument. Suddenly
the girl jumped out of the
car and took off running.
Her mother called 911 and
Sgt. David Asbell soon
found her nearby and took
her to the police station and
asked her what was going
on. That was when she then
finally broke down and told
him what had happened at
the trailer park when she
was 7 years old.
Asbell immediately noti
fied the sheriff’s ofRce, and
an interview was set up with
Sherry O’Neal at the Care
Cottage. The other girl was
also interviewed at the time
but was extremely shy at
first and didn’t want to cause
more stress to her mother.
She later revealed what Mul
lis had allegedly done to her
and was reinterviewed.
Hull also called three
other witnesses, daughters
of a woman who lived at the
park with 8 children from
2013 to 2015. They were also
Mullis’ golf cart riders who
claimed they were molested
when they were at the ages
of 6,10, and 13. According
to Hull, a female resident
saw Mullis waiting at the bus
stop in his golf cart and give
some of the female children
rides. She once noticed
from Monroe County
living with her and riding
the bus to Monroe County
schools. He said the schools
had already asked him not
to let that happen.
“I said something about
it to her and that’s when all
hell broke loose,” said Mul
lis. “That upset everybody.
She said it was none of my
business who went to school
there.”
Mullis said his only crime
is being dumb enough to
rent to people who won’t
pay their rent and are too
stupid to take it when you
try to help them.
“I’m guilty of bring stupid,”
said Mullis.
In his closing argument,
Mullis attorney Floyd Bu
ford of Macon asked jurors
if they really wanted to ruin
the life of a 77-year-old
cancer survivor.
‘Are you gonna destroy
this old man based on al
legations that are so incon
sistent and are 7 years old?”
asked Buford.
