Cheri League Den
nis will be at Forsyth Cheri League Dennis
Antiques & More with her biography of her grandmother,
Ellamae League.
“Dear Mr. Ellamae” is the story of one of the first female
architects in Georgia, a women who found a way to thrive
and excel in a field that was all but closed to her gender.
She worked in the architectural field from 1922 until
1975, leading her own firm for 40 years and succeeding
even during the depression. A number of the buildings
she designed are now listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
Her grandmother was based in Macon, and Dennis
grew up in Macon, graduating from high school and then
Wesleyan College. She said she has always had a passion
for writing. After following some other paths during her
life, she realized that she had a story she should tell about
the fascinating life of her grandmother.
The book is now available, and the author will be avail
able to meet in person at a unique new venue in Forsyth.

Each week, the Reporters
Everyday Heroes in Monroe
County series features men
and women doing thank
less, ordinary jobs to keep
our businesses and com
munity going. And now,
Jason Connell of Volume
Chevrolet has committed to
give each Everyday Hero in
the Reporter $150 for their
loyalty and willingness to
serve. Its a way to celebrate
the men and women who
make Monroe County work.
This weeks recipient is Tina
English, who’s been with the
Forsyth CVS since it first
opened.

If you feel bad
enough, you’re prob
ably going to go to
the doctor. Then,
after your vitals are
checked and your
physician learns your
symptoms, more
likely than not, you
will be on your way
to a pharmacy. If
you choose the CVS
Pharmacy at 430 Tift
College Drive, you’re going
to immediately feel better if
you’re lucky enough to be
waited on by the charis
matic Tina English, lead
tech at the pharmacy who
has been with the company
since 1987 when it was
known as Revco in Macon.
Tina was a member of
the first team at the store
when it opened its Tift
College Drive location and
has been serving customers
40 - 60 hours a week ever
since. She came to Middle
Georgia from northern
California 34 years ago
with her husband who was
a machinist. They raised a
son, Trey, who is a gradu
ate of Mary Persons High
School and currently is the
band director at Feagin
Mill Middle School in War
ner Robins.
Tina said probably the
biggest reason she has
been with the company
for so long is that she hates
change. She has only had
only one other job in her
career and that was at an
olive processing plant in
California where she stuck
it out for five years before
relocating to Georgia.
Tina said the best part
of her job is her custom
ers she meets every day
pulling up to the drive-thru
window or passing them
their prescriptions over
the counter. She also said
Tina English is the Reporter s Everyday Hero in Monroe
County this week. She and all other honorees since this
series began three weeks ago have been given $1 50 by
Jason Connell of Volume Chevrolet for being loyal workers
and a good example for others.
her great coworkers
are another reason she
loves her job so much.
She said the worst part
of her job can be the
rude customers she
sometimes encounters.
A common compaint
these days in the retail
industry. Her advice to
young people just start
ing a career: “You need
a lot of patience and a good
work ethic. If you have that,
you’ll make it.”
It’ll be at least six more
years before she is consid
ering retirement and when
asked what she plans to do
when that day arrives, she
replied, “I’m going to do
absolutely nothing except
hang out with my long
haired miniature dachs
hund, Zoe.” Tina is truly
one of Monroe County’s
everyday heroes.
