A Macon man accused
of a 2019 wreck in Mon
roe County that killed his
10-year-old son has finally
been charged with vehicular
homicide after eluding arrest
for more than two years.
Michael Deandre Brown,
35, of Macon, was stopped
by Bibb County deputies
on Friday, Feb. 18. Monroe
County Sgt. Chris Sherrell
picked him up at the Circle
K on Bass Road and brought
him to the Monroe County
Jail where he finally faced
charges of vehicular homi
cide.
Brown was northbound
on Hwy. 41 on Sept. 22,
2019 near Lorraine Woods
subdivision in a white Buick
Lucerne when he crossed
the centerline, then overcor
rected and struck a tree,
according to the sheriff’s
office. His 10-year-old son
Jamerrien Brown was killed
in the wreck. Brown’s then-
8-year-old suffered a bump
on the head and a third child
in the car, then five-months-
old, was not hurt. The father
and surviving children were
taken to Navicent Health in
Macon. The children were
released that night to their
mother while the father re
mained in the hospital with a
broken arm.

School. The sheriff’s office
said the father, who lived in
Macon, was on his way to a
Bolingbroke gas station to
meet the boy’s mother so she
could take him back to her
home in Forsyth. The other
two children have a different
mother. The sheriff’s office
said in 2019 it would issue

Trooper wrecks chasing Macon man
By Steve Reece

Georgia State Patrol
(GSP) and Motor Car
rier Compliance Division
(MCCD) vehicles were
damaged after wrecking
while chasing a Macon
man around 4:32 p.m.
last Wednesday, Feb. 16.
According to the crash
report, state trooper Jhor-
dann Barker was in pur
suit of Reginald Bernard
Hill, of Macon, who was
in a 2006 Nissan Altima
speeding north on 1-75
when Barker tried a PIT
maneuver and struck the
Nissan. Hill was able to
get back on the interstate
and continued north.
Officer Hyman Bell of
the MCCD joined Barker
in the pursuit near mile
marker 191 just ahead of
Hill. Barker again per
formed a PIT maneuver
and caused the Nissan
to rotate clockwise while
Bell made a U-turn to
pin Hill’s vehicle, but Hill
crashed into Bell’s vehicle’s
left side sending it off the
road onto the shoulder.
The Nissan then began
to spin in the opposite
direction, causing Barker’s
patrol car to crash into the
guardrail. Hill’s vehicle
ended up in the middle
lane facing west. He was
taken from his car without
incident and then to the
Monroe County Hospital
for treatment of minor
injuries. After his release
from the hospital, he
was taken to the Monroe
County Jail. Traffic was
backed up for several
hours after the wreck. The
GSP requires supervisors
be the ones to move patrol
cars after a wreck.

in vehicle
Monroe County deputies
arrested a Mary Persons
student for having pot and
a knife in his car during a
campus

Scott
Nichols,

syth, was
charged
with marijuana possession,
weapon in school zone and
possession and use of drug-
related objects after drug
dogs alerted on his car in
the parking lot. The weapon
was a 6-inch blade knife. He
was taken to the Monroe
County Jail and was later
released on bond. Dogs
also alerted on a female
juvenile at the alternative
school, the Monroe County
Achievement Center, and
deputies found drugs in
her purse. The girl lashed
out, hitting one deputy and
head-butting another one.
She was taken to the Youth

Herring’s car stolen at airport
By Will Davis
publisher™ my mcr.net
NFL player and former Mary
Persons star Malik Herring had his
Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen at the
Atlanta airport over the weekend.
Herring had left his car at Hartsfield-
Jackson airport to fly to Las Vegas for
a vacation when he got a notice from
U-Connect alerting him that his car
had been stolen. To add insult, when
Herring returned he could not get
local police at the airport to file a
report on the stolen car. So Herring
contacted his hometown Monroe
County sheriff’s office and they are
investigating. Sheriff Brad Freeman
said they had an alert that the car
might be in Douglas County but
they didn’t find it from that lead.
Freeman said he believes the car
was insured but they will
investigate any leads to try
to find it.
It’s the second time in the
last month that a Monroe
County resident visiting a
metro area has been forced
to report faraway issues to
their local sheriff’s office
because no authorities
were available on site. Last
month a Forsyth man
found a wallet and cash
in downtown Macon.
When no deputies would respond,
he was forced to report the issue to
the Monroe County sheriff’s office.
Freeman said it’s a sad commentary
on the shortages faced by metro
departments, but he’s glad to help
when he can.
According to www.spotrac.com,
Herring signed a 3-year, $2,450,000
contract with the Kansas City Chiefs
last year, including a $25,000 signing
bonus, $125,000 guaranteed, and an
average annual salary of $816,667. In
2022, Herring earns a base salary of
$825,000. He gave a Walmart shop
ping spree to three Forsyth young
sters over Christmas.
