January 1, 1945 - February 12, 2022
MCPO James Wayne Redd, Sr.,
USN Ret, died Saturday, Feb. 12,
2022, at Upson Regional Medical
Center. Graveside funeral services for
MCPO Redd were held Wednesday,
Feb. 16,2022 in the Forsyth City Cem
etery with Rev. Ted Kandler officiat
ing. The family received friends at the
cemetery following the service.
MCPO Redd was born in Forsyth
on Jan. 1,1945, to the late James Waldrop Redd and Mary
Frances Wilder Redd. He was a graduate of Mary Persons
High School, and he served his country honorably in the
US Navy, retiring with 30 years of service and then serv
ing an additional six years as a Navy instructor. He was
a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. MCPO Redd
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Redd was preceded
in death by his son, James Wayne "Jay" Redd, Jr. He is
survived by his wife, Brenda Reeves Redd of Thomaston;
daughters: Karen Leigh Redd, Nicolette Jean Redd, and
Kimberly Jean Redd, all of San Diego, CA; stepdaughters:
Danielle (Sherwood) Jones of Dalton; and Jenn Galit; son:
Ervin Redd of CA; stepsons: Rod Davidson of Thomas
ton. and J. R. Galit, of CA; and a brother: James Waldrop
Hester of TN. Ten grandchildren also survive.

Samuel Michael Smith

Samuel Michael Smith, age 79, of Haddock, Ga„ passed
away Thursday, Feb. 17,2022. A Celebration of Life was
held at Haddock Baptist Church on Monday, Feb. 21,2022
at 3 p.m. with Dr. Ron McClung officiating. A visitation
was held on Monday, Feb. 21,2022 from
1:30 until service time.
Sam was born to the late William Marlin
and Catherine Samuels Smith. He was
employed and retired from Bowen Aircraft
as a computer system analysis. Sam was a
member of Haddock Baptist Church. He
was a loving and devoted husband, father,
and grandfather.
Sam is survived by his sons, Michael K. Smith of Had
dock and Chad E. (Yvonne) Smith of Columbus; grand
son, David C. Smith of Haddock; and granddaughter,
Emily Catherine Smith of Columbus. He was predeceased
by his wife, Patricia Ann Smith.

Glenn Herbert Landin passed away
Sunday, February 13,2022. A memo
rial service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
February 26,2022 at Monroe County
Memorial Chapel, in Forsyth Georgia.
Family and friends are welcomed to
share their memories, remarks, and
words of encouragement to the family.
Mr. Landin is the son of the late
Milton Arthur Landin and Corinne Brewer Williams.
He was born on August 31,1954 in Cheverly, Maryland.
Glenn is a Navy Veteran who served in the Vietnam War,
was an accomplished diesel and car mechanic, and drove
a semi-truck for the last 15 years of his life. He was a lov
ing husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply
missed by many of his family, friends, and others who had
the opportunity to know him.
Survivors include his mother, Corrine Brewer Williams
(Sam); his wife, Janice Lail Landin; his siblings, Craig
Landin, Gloria Idiaan (Assou), Clifton Landin (Cindy),
Wayne Landin, Walter Landin (Julie); his children, Kenny
Claybaugh, Charles Claybaugh (Torie), Rob Grant, and
Nicki Bartholomy (Greg); 15 grandchildren, and 3 great
grandchildren.

Helen Cleo Fox Bass
July 4, 1925 - February 14 2022
Helen Cleo Fox Bass went home to be with
Jesus on Monday, Feb. 14,2022. She passed
away at home with her beloved family by her
side. Graveside services were held Friday,
Feb. 18,2022 at Monroe Memorial Gardens.
Dr. H. Darrell Watson officiated.
Helen was born July 4,1925, the daughter
of the late Hoolie Melvin Fox and Cleo Belle
West.
Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and
great great grandmother, she dedicated her entire adult life to
her family. Cooking was her j oy and her kitchen was always
open to feed whomever came by for a visit. She sent cards for
all occasions to family and friends. A family joke was that she
kept the post office busy for years!
She and her beloved late husband were members of First
Baptist Church for 25 years.
Helen was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, WPB,
Florida. She organized and formed the first Red Hat Club in
Forsyth 20 years ago. It was a wonderful time for ladies to en
joy lunch in different Tea Rooms and wear gorgeous red hats.
Helen and Ernest spent 29 years square dancing all over the
United States.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Ralph
of 70 years. Survivors include her children, Barbara Bass
Williams of Forsyth, Jim Bass (Carlin) of Newnan, Mike Bass
(Carol) WPB, Florida, Patti Bass Gainey of Forsyth, sister,
Gloria Flanders (Jack) of Charleston, S.C., 11 grandchildren,
28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Samuel (Sam) C. Johnson
August 29, 1953 - February 19, 2022
Samuel (Sam) Johnson passed away on Saturday, Feb. 19,
2022 at 68 years of age after an extended illness. Sam was
born Aug. 29,1953 in Atlanta to Frank
Johnson Sr. and Annie Bell Thaxton
Johnson.
Sam was preceded in death by his broth
ers, Frank Johnson Jr. and Joseph Haner;
aunts, Melba Couch and Sue Moore;
brother-in-law, Stacey Curry and infant
granddaughter, Mackenzie Parker.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife,
Patricia Johnson; children, Wendy (Bill)
Turner and Eric (Lindsay) Parker; grandchildren Brice
Turner, Kenley Turner, Adalyn Parker, and Olivia Parker;
brothers-in-law, Len Curry (Christine) and Billy Curry
(Cindy); sisters, Brenda Ferguson (Concord, VA) and Libby
Thomas (Haynesville, GA); his niece and caretaker, Emalea
Curry, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and extended
relatives.
Sam enlisted in the Army at 21 years of age. He was as
signed to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment. At the
time of his Honorable Discharge, Sam had earned the rank
of Sergeant First Class and served in Germany for 2 years.
He earned the Hand Grenade Expert Badge and the M-16
Rifle Marksman Badge as well as the Army Commendation
Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
After being relieved from Active Duty, Sam attended
college and obtained his Associates Degree. Sam was an
electrician by trade and worked for many years at Ingleside
Electric in Macon prior to working for Wayerhauser and
Jordan Forest Products from which he retired after 28 years.
Anyone who knew Sam knew he loved being a PawPaw,
good looking trucks, fishing, animals of all kinds and his
loyal companion, Sadie. Sam and Sadie were well known
for their Sunday afternoon outings to rim errands and visit
family. As his health faded, Emalea became Sams caregiver.
He looked forward to her visits because he knew she would
bring him special treats.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.

ATL man wrecked, arrested
An Atlanta man was charged with DUI-drugs after lead
ing Georgia state troopers and Monroe County deputies
on a high-speed chase before he was stopped by a PIT
maneuver near Shoney s around 8:29 a.m. on Jan. 27.
The suspect, Patrick Anthony Luckie, 25, of Atlanta, was
driving a 2017 Volvo S90 and being chased by Trooper
Harold Scott Young when luckie made a right turn from
Industrial Park Drive onto Hwy. 1 8. According to the
report, Young performed a successful PIT maneuver by
hitting luckie s right rear fender. After impact the Volvo ro
tated clockwise and came to a rest on the right shoulder.
Luckie was found to be under the influence of drugs and

Ann Pierson Davis
November 3, 1937 - February 12, 2022
Ann Elizabeth Pierson Davis, 84, passed
away Feb. 12,2022, in Forsyth. She was
born Nov. 3,1937, in Forsyth to the late
James Harris “Buck” Pierson, Sr., and
Mildred (Walker) Pierson and was a
long-time resident of Monroe County.
She graduated from Mary Persons High
School in 1955. On June 10,1955, she
married Larry M. Davis, who preceded her in death on
June 20,2009.
A homemaker, Mrs. Davis was a devout Christian and
taught, among other things, childrens Sunday School
at Midway Baptist Church in Lizella and later at Rogers
United Methodist Church in Forsyth. At the time of her
passing, she was a member of First Baptist Church on
the Square in LaGrange and was a member of the Ruth
Sunday School class. She enjoyed reading, shopping, not
cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 54 years and her parents,
Mrs. Davis was also predeceased by her sister, Barbara
Pierson; her brother, James Harris “Jimmy” Pierson, Jr.;
a nephew, James Harris Pierson, III; a niece, Jean Marie
Pierson Driver; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law,
Ronald and Hilda Davis. She is survived by her children,
James Steven Davis; Janice Dianne Davis Mallory (Paul);
and John Carey Davis (Liz); her grandchildren, Leah Pier
son Davis Mallory Lefebvre (Craig); Paul Steven Mallory,
Jr. (Summer); James Daniel Davis II (Amanda); Amanda
Davis Register (Jarrett); and Alyssa Davis; and five great
grandchildren, as well as her brother, John Francis Pierson
(Betty), and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19
at Monroe County Memorial Chapel, 86 W Main St, For
syth, Georgia, with visitation beginning one hour before
the service. Rev. Carey Davis officiated. Burial was in the
Forsyth City Cemetery.
