Woman shoots, kills aggressive
dog that attacked her terrier
By Steve Reece
stevereece@gmail.com
An aggressive dog had
to be euthanized after
being shot by the owner
of a dog it was attacking
around 12:39 p.m. on Feb.
9. According to the inci
dent report, officer Arthur
Musselman responded to 5
Dew Place in reference to
two dogs fighting. While
enroute, dispatched radi
oed that Jasmine Jackson
had shot one of the dogs
when it wouldn’t let go of
her dog. Sgt. David Asbell
found the wounded dog on
the side of the road at the
intersection of Dew Place
and Willis Wilder Drive
and made a call to animal
control.
Musselman spoke with
Jackson who told him she
had put her 3-year-old
Staffordshire Terrier in the
back yard while she took a
lunch break and heard dogs
barking and she thought
it was just her dog playing
with the neighbors dog.
She said when she looked
into the backyard, she saw a
large brown and white dog
had her dog by the throat
and wouldn’t release it.
Her boyfriend and a
neighbor hit the dog with
a 2x4, but it still wouldn’t
let go so Jackson then went
into her house and got her
Smith & Wesson .40 caliber
pistol and shot at the dog
three times. She said her
first shot missed, but her
second and third shots hit
it in the abdomen, and it
released her dog and left
her yard.
Animal control said the
wounded dog appeared
to have an arterial bleed
and was going to bleed
to death so they took the
dog to a veterinarian to be
euthanized to save it from
suffering.
