Hit and run charges dropped for Forsyth man
District attorney Jona
than Adams said that a
hit and run charge against
a Forsyth man has been
dropped after he paid a
$1,200 fine.
The charge against Mike
Hickman Sr., the former
Mary Persons principal,
was dropped on March 4,
2021, said Adams. Adams
said Hickman was a first
time offender.
Hickman was accused of
a hit-and-run on Saturday,
Oct. 12,2019 after a wit
ness followed him and told
police of his whereabouts.
Sonjo Jarriel told Forsyth
police Cpl. Kim Barnett
that she was traveling
Patrol Road at its intersec
tion with North Lee Street
when an older model
white van heading north
toward 1-75 ran the red
light on Lee Street and
struck the front of her
Honda Accord before
continuing down the hill.
Jarriel called 911. The
wreck happened around
10:36 a.m. on Oct. 12.
A witness had called 911,
and had followed the van
to a concrete duplex-style
building on Pineview
Drive. The witness said the
van was initially parked in
the front yard, but when
he passed the building a
second time, the van had
moved to the rear of the
building.
When Barnett arrived
she saw an older-model,
white minivan exiting the
driveway. Barnett blocked
the van in the driveway
and told the driver, identi
fied as Mike C. Hickman
Sr. of Forsyth, to put the
van in park. Hickman ad
mitted to driving the van
earlier that day but said
he had never been on Lee
Street. Forsyth police off-
ficer Jeremy Malone found
damage to the vans rear
passenger side. Hickman
denied being involved in
a wreck and said he didn’t
know if the damage was
new or not. Hickman then
changed his story and said
he had been traveling on
Lee Street earlier that day.
While en route to the jail,
Hickman again denied
hitting anyone and said
the Accord actually hit the
side of his van. Hickman
also asked for the names of
the witnesses, but Barnett
told them the witnesses’
names would be in the
report.
Report: DUI Fla. man fled Monroe County deputies in stolen car
A West Melbourne, FL driver crash at Hwy. 42 and Johnstonville
of a stolen 2020 Honda
Civic was clocked doing
116 mph on 1-75 N near
Rumble Road around
3:53 a.m. on Feb. 26 by
Sgt. Jeffery Seckinger
and after a stop at the
top of the Juliette Road
exit, took off and led
deputies on a high-speed
chase that ended with a
ANDREWS
Road. According to the
incident report, Julian
Christopher Andrews,
33, of Riverview, FL,
apologized to Seckinger
at the initial stop for go
ing a hundred miles an
hour. He then acted like
he was getting his license
but accelerated, made a
hard left, got back on the
entrance ramp exceeding speeds
of 120 mph while driving in a very
reckless manner, traveling from
one side of the road to the other
and driving in the emergency lane.
Deputy Corbin Becelia tried to
execute a PIT maneuver several
times but due to Andrews reckless
driving he was unable. Andrews
then took the Johnstonville Road
exit and turned right, at times trav
eling in the opposing lane. He lost
control at the intersection of Hwy.
42 and Johnstonville road and took
off on foot. Becelia and Cpl. Larry
Sullivan gave chase with Becelia fir
ing his taser which didn’t connect.
After a brief struggle, the deputies
soon had him in handcuffs in the
rear of Sullivan’s patrol cruiser.
A check of the Honda revealed
it had been stolen out of Titusville,
FL on Feb. 9. A check of Andrews’
license showed his license to be
suspended for numerous offenses
in Florida. He refused to submit to
a blood or breath test and was cited
for speeding (2 charges), fleeing,
reckless driving, failure to maintain
lane, failure to signal, obstruction,
obscured tag, use of license to
conceal identity, dui refusal, driving
without a license and theft by re
ceiving property stolen in another
state.
