Karen Wu: Everyday Hero
at Lucky Cafe in Forsyth
By Steve Reece
stevereece@gmail.com
She came to Georgia from
Canton, China in 1994, moved
to Monroe County from
Macon 3 years later, became
an American citizen, and has
spent every day since being an
everyday hero. The first thing
you notice about Karen Wu
when you visit the Lucky Cafe
at 306 Harold G Clarke Pkwy.
is her smile along with her
unstoppable energy.
Karen puts in at least 50
hours a week at the restaurant
where she is partners with her
husband, Sam. They were in
business together at the China
Inn near the old Walmart
for 10 years before setting up
shop in their current loca
tion in 2007 where business
has always been good except
for when they had to shut
down due to COVID-19
mandates. Remnants of the
pandemic can still be seen in
the restaurant with roped-off
counter seats. Lucky Cafe is
also having shipping issues
with chicken, to-go boxes, and
other supplies and Karen said
sometimes they must go to
Sam’s Club to stock up.
Not only are Karen and Sam
partners in business, but they
also share three sons: Alex 25,
who is currently a student at
Georgia State, Anthony 19,
who goes to Georgia South
ern, and Andrew 17, a student
at Academy for Classical Edu
cation (ACE). Karen said their
sons have always helped in the
business and are there with
them anytime they are home
from school. The couple has
no immediate plans for retire
ment and is waiting for all
Karen Wu
their sons to graduate college
to even consider it.
Karen said they have many
long-time customers who
are like her extended family
and her family loves Monroe
County.
She has a little garden at
their Monroe County country
home that she tends to on her
days off along with her house
hold chores. Since the restau
rant is open from 11 a.m. to 8
p.m„ five days a week, she says
she has no time for the larger
garden she would like.
She would like to tell the kids
just starting out, “We must
work for a living. There’s no
way out of it. It’s something
everyone must do.” Karen Wu:
an everyday hero all the way
to Monroe County from the
other side of the world.
Forsyth man charged with molestation
A 42-year-old man was
charged with child molestation
on March 26.
According to the arrest war
rant, Samuel Rosa Troche, 42,
Forsyth, was arrested after he
committed an immoral or inde
cent act upon a female juvenile.
The warrant states Troche lifted
the girl’s shirt, unclipped her
bra and started massaging her
back. He then moved lower
and pushed her pants down a
bit before massaging her lower
back and front hip area where
he rubbed her private area.
