Mary Persons won
another wild game with
Upson-Lee on Monday
night as freshman Tristan
Hunt ended the game with
a walk-offline drive to
centerfield with the bases
loaded, giving the Bulldogs
their school-record 21st
straight win.
Now ranked No. 2 in
the state in the Coaches
Poll, the Bulldogs had the
rare challenge of playing
from behind on Monday at
home. Upson-Lee started
the game going up 2 rims
in the first and another in
the 4th before the Dogs
finally put it together with
a 3-rim blast to left field
by Eric Snow to tie it in
the bottom of the fourth
inning. In the 5th inning
MP was able to scratch
together another 4 runs to
give them what many felt
was a comfortable 7-3 lead.
Instead UL continued to
capitalize on some mental
errors and scored another
3 runs in the sixth and 4 in
the seventh inning giving
the Knights a 10-8 lead
going into the home half of
the 7th. The Bulldogs re
fused to surrender as three
straight base hits from
Brady Christman, Thomas
Brooks, and Ryan Jenkins
got the home crowd fired

Hunt, who provided

its winning streak to an

than doubled that. Zack
Grizzard, who entered the

“We never doubted
we were gonna win the
game,” said Mathis, “we
just weren’t sure how we
would do it. We had a lot of
confidence when we came

Soccer Dogs clinch 1st
playoff spot in 4 years
The Mary Persons boys soccer
team is headed to the playoffs for the
first time in four years after beating
Upson-Lee 1-0 on Senior Night at
Lancaster Field on Friday, March 29.
Freshman Gavin Harris scored from
outside the box on an assist from An
gel Martinez in the first half. The MP
defense shutdown the Knights (7-9-1,
3-4 region) the rest of the night to
secure the 1-0 victory. The Bulldogs
ended the regular season at 10-5-1,
6-1 in region to be the No. 2 seed in
the playoffs, thus hosting a playoff
game next week. MP will play the No.
3 seed from Region 4-AAA, which
appears to be Richmond Academy
(10-4,5-3), the same school that the
girls would play. The game is likely set
for Wednesday, April 13.
Meanwhile, MP senior captain
Asher Dingmore committed to play
college soccer next year at Point
University.

Lady Dogs hit the road for state playoffs
The Mary Persons girls soccer team will
hit the road for Round 1 of the state play
offs next week, likely against Richmond
Academy in Augusta, after finishing the
season third in Region 2-AAA.
The Fady Dogs finished their regular sea
son at 10-4-1, 5-2 in Region 2-AAA after
thumping Upson Fee (7-10, 3-4 region)
10-0 on Senior Night at home on Friday,
April 1. Reagan Benson had 5 goals, Lilly
Barnes 2 and Caroline Buffington, Karlie
Dell, Sydney Lewis had one apiece in the
offensive onslaught.
Dell had 3 assists, Karsen Winget and
Lewis had 2 each and Buffington had 1

from Region 4-AAA, which appears to be
Richmond Academy. Richmond Academy
is 8-5, 6-2 in region this year.

ty 2-0 on March 29. Both teams had been
