Lines, standards and Johnny Cash
By Addy Devers
Johnny Cash once sang,
“Because you’re mine, I
walk the line.” This song
came out in 1956 but it
happens to be one of my
favorite songs.
Now according to sourc
es, this song is supposed to
represent Johnny holding
back from his own person
al temptations. Now, this is
not necessarily important
because if you google the
meaning of “Walk the line”
google will state, in simi
lar words, “Meeting other
people’s standards and fol
lowing the rules.” Standards
are set to keep you on
track. Standards are a good
thing until they aren’t.
Many people have parents
with very high standards,
or maybe your own per
sonal standards are just too
high. No one is perfect no
matter how hard you try.
Personally, my standards
for myself that I have for
grades and school tend to
cause me stress. Standards
help you push yourself but
sometimes your standards
are not met and that's ok.
My problem is I cannot
accept the fact that my
standards for myself were
not met.
But if you are having
trouble living up to some
one else's standards or even
your own then just know
if you try your best then all
will be well. It may not feel
that way immediately but
truthfully all will be well.
Your imperfections make
you who you are and they
can be the most beautiful
parts. Walking the line 24/7
is nearly impossible but
trying your best is always
possible. I choose to try my
best because walking the
line needs to be left in the
50s.
Spring Fling is a hit
By Hunter Dorn
The Spring Fling was on April
1st at MCMS. It was at the end of
the day for 8th graders and the last
day before spring break. The school
played an April Fools prank and
said that we didn't have athletic
wear, but then sent out an email
later saying that we actually did.
There were inflatables in the gym,
music outside, and food and drinks
in the cafeteria. It was a super fun
event and I was excited for spring
break. For most of the event, I
explored the different inflatables
with my friends. I really enjoyed the
inflatable slide in the gym. After the
event, we went back to homeroom
and had free time for 30 minutes
until dismissal. Overall, the Spring
Fling was very fun.

This year we had the Spring Fling on April
1st, half the school day. We had class until
12:35, then we went to the Spring Fling until
2:35. The earliest we could pay was about 3
weeks before. The cost started at $10 and went
up weekly. I paid when the cost was still $10
and I was super excited to go.
I was so excited to go that day, the day flew
by. When 12:35 came around everyone was
ready to go. At 12:35 we left our room and
just about everyone went straight to the gym,
where there were inflatables. The cafeteria had
facing painting, food and a movie. You could
also go outside where they had music and you
could play football in the grass.
I spent most of my time in the cafeteria
where I got a cow painted on my hand. I also
spent a good bit of my time in the gym just
hanging out with friends. Overall it was an en
joyable day; the people I hung out with made
it even more enjoyable. I'm sad to say that it is
my last Spring Fling.

The MCMS Spring Fling was Friday, April 1. There was lots of dancing, inflatables,
and hanging out with friends. There was something for everyone to do at spring fling.
If you were hungry, pizza and drinks were provided. If you felt like testing your ath
leticism, then you could try the wipeout course. You could also practice your moves
on the dance floor. Spring fling was really an event that all students were excited for
and wanted to earn.

On April 1 students at MCMS were able to have two hours off to enjoy themselves
and hang out with friends before Spring Break. This event was called Spring Fling.
Before students were able to go, they had to pay for tickets. For one week tickets
were $10, and increased as time went by. The celebration included pizza, drinks, music
outdoors, soccer, other sports, and inflatables. Bulldog Bizaare was open that day too,
but you could only visit it once.
In the gym, there was a rock climbing wall, an inflatable that allowed you to race
through it, an obstacle course, other challenges, and a slide. Outside where the buses
park in the afternoon, there was music with Dr. Yarber being the DJ, soccer, and other
outdoor activities. The new section of the cafeteria had face painting and temporary
tattoos.
Students had so much fun. This event allowed them to kick off their week for break.
Four at MCMS advance to
district in Ga. Media Festival
By Connor Yates
The Georgia Student Media Festival
happened recently, and four winners were
chosen from Monroe County Middle
School to proceed on to the regional/dis
trict level: Griffin Chapman, Tristan Sikes,
Connor Yates, and Jason Anderson.
This contest was for media and creations
of almost any kind. Included in the catego
ries for submission were animations, web
sites, podcasts, games, and other recorded,
audio, or coded creations of almost any
kind. I personally submitted a version of
the old video game Pong, recoded with
instructions and new graphics to create:
Zelda Pong, a tribute to the Fegend of
Zelda games while still playing like the
original computer game.
Jason Anderson submitted two entries: a
website of his own design and a Harry Pot
ter trivia game, coded by him. I don’t know
what the other projects submitted were,
but they were probably amazing! These
four bright students’ projects are going to
the region/district level to compete with
other winners, and may they have good
luck!
Spring break is a good time for a birthday
By Addyson Shearer
Spring break is always my second favorite
break off of school because it's the week of
my birthday! This year we celebrated my
14th birthday with my whole family and
my best friend since kindergarten (Fibby
Holloway)!
I had no idea my family was going to
show up and surprise me at dinner. We had
so much fun laughing and enjoying each
other's company. When we left our restau
rant we realized they were filming a movie
in downtown Macon. We watched it being
filmed for a little while, but my parents
definitely thought it was a lot cooler than it
actually was. The next day, we went shop
ping at the Mall of Georgia until we literally
dropped!

Easter comes with colors
By Lara Noguera
The flowers blooming as spring is near,
The rustling of animals is all I hear.
As the sky turns brighter later in the day,
Spring is here, I'm excited to say.
In the middle of April, Easter is yet to come,
With all the candy in the world, kids can't wait to eat some.
The Easter bunny is coming with its eggs,
Kids eager to find them fast with their legs.
Easter in spring is the most colorful holiday of all,
Coming after winter and after fall.
A yearly celebration full of color, fun, and sweets,
Everyone's back and front yards are full of treats.
Families creating art on all the eggs, dyeing and decorating,
All the plastic easter eggs are getting separated.
The breezy cold air is finally going away,
Spring is here, I’m excited to say!
Easter is here
By Cullin Tallent
It’s not too hot not too cold
The sun finally comes out
Flower petals unfold
As they all began to sprout
Easter is here
Race to get your egg collection
Before it ends and disappears
We celebrate his resurrection
The treasure hunt begins
Before Easter starts to fade
We all renew again
The food all out and displayed
We join hands and bow our heads
And give thanks to the one above
End the wonderful day in our beds
Wrapped up and secure like a glove
The real meaning of
Easter
By Sheldon Scoggins
The spring is here and the sun is out
Do you know what Easter is really all about
It's not about the fun
Or playing under the sun
It's about the sacrifice that was left on the cross
We give thanks for the blood that was lost
We celebrate his great resurrection
It really does show all his love and affection
Easter is great and now you know the real reason
Why we celebrate this holiday every spring season
So go have fun and find all the eggs
Get outside and go stretch your legs
Never forget what has been done
But that doesn't mean you can’t still have fun
When Easter is here thank the one above
Because he made a sacrifice to show all his love
Student thanks Monroe County 8th grade teachers for being guides to success
By Kaelen Heath
Considering it is both my
last club day and my last
year as a student at Monroe
County Middle School, I
would like to say my thanks
to all of the teachers I had
throughout my three years
of school here, and I want
to say thanks to my eighth
grade teachers.
Mrs. Martel, my language
arts teacher, helped me
become a better writer. She
encouraged me to come
out of my shell when writ
ing argumentative essays.
She showed all of my class
good writing techniques,
and she taught us how to
find the parts of speech in
sentences.
Mrs. Martel is by far one
of my favorite teachers,
and she doesn't get enough
credit for all the work she
does in her classroom.
My science teacher, Mr.
McCoy, has been a great
teacher, too. Though in my
opinion physical science
is quite hard, he makes
the class fun and helps us
understand it. Knowing
middle school students, we
are very forgetful. Mr. Mc
Coy is lenient and helps us
do well in his class.
Ms. Ham is my Georgia
studies teacher. Though
many teachers only teach
the subjects, Ms. Ham is
clearly engaged in Georgia's
history and makes sure we
are hooked onto the topic!
We are able to ace her class
because of this. Ms. Ham
has taught us very well,
and she makes me want to
know more about history!
Thus, I can become as
smart as her.
Fastly my math teachers,
Mr. Stevick and Dr. Boyd,
make the class fun and
engaging for the students.
We goof off in class some
times, but we are still able
to understand our assign
ments and learn. Dr. Boyd
is always there when we
need help with our work,
and she teaches us ways we
can comprehend.
Overall, I’m so thank
ful for all my teachers that
have helped me succeed in
school. Though technically
it is not fully the end of the
school year, it is never too
early to say thank you to all
my teachers!
