INCIDENT REPORTS . April 20, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Drunk driver unaware he was
missing a tire and had a shat
tered windshield
Monroe County Dispatch is
sued a BOLO on a silver 2013
Toyota Tacoma after a caller
reported it driving at 70 mph
on a flat tire on 1-75 N around
3:13 p.m. on March 28. Cpl. John
Cochran got behind the Tacoma
which had extensive damage that
included a shattered windshield
near Hwy. 18 and watched it take
up two lanes and nearly striking
a truck pulling a camper. The
driver was going from lane to
lane and Cochran activated his
emergency lights but the 62-year-
old man from Griffin failed to
yield. Deputy John Thompson
then positioned his patrol vehicle,
in front of the Tacoma which
almost struck him in the rear and
finally came to a stop on the right
shoulder.
The driver appeared to be under
the influence while Cochran
spoke with him. He was hav
ing a hard time standing up and
making eye contact and told the
corporal he was coming from
the medical center in Macon.
He said he had a heart test, and
the doctors gave him some type
of pill that would relax him but
was released after a few hours for
observation.
The man said he couldn’t
remember leaving the hospital or
wrecking his vehicle. He also told
Cochran he didn’t know his right
rear tire was missing or that his
windshield was shattered. Due
to his condition, the driver was
unable to perform a sobriety test
and refused to submit to a blood
test. He was taken to jail to await
bonding.
Mangoes to jail with
meth in his pocket
A 65-year-old man has received
warrants for methamphetamine
possession and crossing guard
lines with drugs after he was ar
rested by officer Richard Mad
dox who ran the tags on a black
Chevrolet truck with a female
passenger around 11:43 a.m. on
March 30. Maddox learned the
registered owner had an active
warrant and no insurance and
made the stop in front of Tift
College. The driver said he had
insurance and passed Maddox his
license and insurance card which
dispatch said was valid. Dispatch
also confirmed his warrant and
the officer had him step from the
vehicle and he was arrested. The
unlicensed passenger was allowed
to call someone to drive the truck
and Cpl. Kimberly Barnett stayed
with her until they arrived.
While being processed into jail,
the driver was searched by Sgt.
Jacob Robins who found a clear
plastic bag containing metham
phetamine in the man’s right rear
pocket.
Deputy loses sight of
fleeing motorcycle
Deputy Charlie Bryson was
dispatched to the area of Blount
Road and Garr Road around 11
p.m. on March 30 after reports
of a motorcycle speeding in the
area and after spotting the red
and white bike near Weldon
Road and doing a U-turn, he lost
track of the rider who was doing
80 mph in the curves on Tingle
Road.
Man jailed after
harassing customers
A man went to jail for loitering
after employees at the Circle K
on North Lee Street called police
just after midnight on March 31
to complain the man was being
irate with customers and asking
them for money. Officers Anais
Benjamin, John Bogdan, and
Cpl. Jeremy Malone found the
suspect across the street at the
Shell station and the man turned
away from them and began
walking away. After being called
several times, he finally went to
the officers, continuously talking
so that Malone was unable to ask
him any questions. Malone then
took him into custody.
DUI charges for underaged
Alabama man
A BOLO was issued on a 2019
Chevrolet Silverado after it was
reported to be weaving all over the
road around 1 a.m. on March 31
and its Alabama driver was taken
to jail on DUI charges. Deputy
Charlie Bryson was waiting for the
pickup to pass near the Jackson
exit at Hwy. 36 when he spot
ted the vehicle making several
lane changes very close to other
vehicles without signaling and
straddling a lane line. The deputy
activated his emergency lights,
and the Silverado went from the
middle lane to the left and then to
the far right until finally pulling
over on the right shoulder after
traveling a half a mile.
The 20-year-old male driver who
had a bright blue color on his lips,
teeth and tongue told Bryson he
didn’t realize he had been failing
to maintain lane because he was
on his cell phone. His speech and
reactions were slow, his eyes di
lated and watery and he smelled of
alcohol, so the deputy asked him
how much he had to drink, and he
replied, “Seven beers.” He ex
plained his last drink was 2 hours
ago and his lips were blue due to a
slushy he had earlier. He added he
was coming from “Flowbama” and
headed home but told the deputy
he didn’t know where he currently
was.
When asked if he would take a
handheld breath test, he refused
but agreed to take a field sobriety
test. During the testing, he sud
denly stopped and told Cpl. Larry
Sullivan, “I can’t pass the tests.”
and refused to continue.
An open bottle of vodka was
found in the driver’s side floor and
an empty bottle of Jack Daniels
whisky was found in the cab. The
driver was transported to the
Monroe County Jail and charged
with DUI-refusal, failure to main
tain lane, open container, under
aged possession of alcohol, failure
to signal, phone use and window
tint violation.
Woman has money
stolen from bra
Cpl. Kimberly Barnett was
responding to a domestic dispute
when she found a woman stand
ing near the road in front of a
house on Hunter Street covering
her ripped bra with her torn shirt
on March 31 around 2:47 p.m.
The woman told Barnett she went
to the home to check on a friend
and when she stepped up on the
steps, a man came from beside
the house, ripped her shirt and
bra open and stole the money she
had hidden in her bra. Barnett
took the woman to her home
where she gave the shirt and
bra to Inv. Alan Henderson as
evidence.
Neighbor's dog kills
woman's dog in her yard
A woman on Big Buck Trail
told Cpl. John Cochran on April
1 around 7:30 p.m. her neighbor’s
dog had killed her dog. While
Cochran was speaking with her,
he saw two dogs standing in her
yard near the deceased dog then
leave for the neighbor’s house.
Cochran went to the neighbor
who said she had been trying to
keep her dogs in her yard but was
unable to do so. She had been
previously issued a citation for
her dogs being out of her yard
and animal control was advised
of the new complaint and said
they would deem the dogs as
dangerous. The dogs’ owner was
issued two citations and told
she would soon be contacted by
animal control.
Upset drunk trying to fight
Al's Market customers
An intoxicated man who was
trying to fight customers at Al’s
Market on North Lee Street was
arrested by Cpl. Jeremy Malone
around 11:25 p.m. on April 1.
The man was standing next to
the driver’s window of a vehicle
parked in front of the store angry
and yelling when Malone pulled
up but started backing away
when he saw the corporal.
Witnesses told Malone the man
appeared to be very drunk and
very upset, and the man then
started walking away towards
Patrol Road while the corporal

was speaking with them. After
Malone finished with the witness
es, he found the man near Burger
King and got out to speak with
him, but the man was too intoxi
cated to formulate a sentence, so
he was cited for public drunken
ness and taken to jail.
Drugs, cash found on Stock-
bridge man during 1-75 stop
A gray 2020 Hyundai Elantra
driven by a 21-year-old Snellville
man with two male passengers
was clocked doing 101 mph on
1-75 S near Johnstonville Road
around 11:43 p.m. on April 1 and
the driver was cited for speed
ing and one of his passengers, a
22-year-old Stockbridge man was
found to possess a large amount
of marijuana and a large sum
of cash before he was taken to
the Monroe County jail. Deputy
Tyler Rodgers made the stop near
North Lee Street as deputy Jeff
Thompson arrived to assist and
Rodgers could smell marijuana
as he approached the passenger’s
side, and the window was rolled
down.
Rodgers moved to the driver’s
side after receiving his license,
had him step from the car, and
asked him if they had smoked
any marijuana in the vehicle. The
driver replied not while he was
driving but there might be a little
bit inside.
Thompson saw the backseat
passenger reach for a 9mm hand
gun from his waistband, took it
from him and had him exit the
vehicle. The pistol was found to
be loaded with 17 hollow point
bullets in the magazine and one
in the chamber. The deputy also
removed the front seat passenger
from the Hyundai.
The backseat passenger admit
ted ownership of a backpack
found in the backseat containing
18 bags of marijuana, 6 hollow
point 9mm rounds, a scale with
marijuana residue, 2 packages
of 1 gram of marijuana concen
trate. The man also had $7,447
wrapped in rubber bands in his
pants.
Rodgers will be seeking war
rants on him for distributing
marijuana, drug possession,
possession of a firearm during the
commission of a felony, and pos
session and use of a drug-related
object.
