Advice to future MCMS students
Going to school at MCMS can be a very
great experience if you know what to do.
There are many fun events every single
year. All you need to do is work hard, have
a positive attitude, and have respect for
your teachers and classmates. If you do all
of these, you will have a great time during
middle school.
Studying is very important to maintain a
good grade during middle school. I would
recommend reading for at least 30 minutes
a day and studying for at least 30 minutes
a day. You can do this on your ride home,
ride to school, homeroom, or DEAR time
during dismissal. Doing this will greatly
help you with your classes.
Paying attention and following directions
is the most important thing to have a good
time at MCMS. If you pay attention, you
will understand the material better and
following directions will help you overall.
You will get in trouble less, have more time
to do classwork, and get a better grade
overall.
Finally, you need to have a positive
attitude. This will help you make more
friends, pass time faster, and be a more
likable person. This can greatly affect how
you do in school. If you do all of the things
mentioned above, you can have a great
time at school and be able to go to events
such as the student of the month field trip,
spring fling, fall festival, etc.
Love yourself
By Addyson Devers
Middle school is about
love. Loving yourself and
friends and life. In middle
school, people change.
Sometimes for the bet
ter and sometimes for the
worse.
Middle school is when
you meet so many new
people and create relation
ships. You get to know
people in a different way.
You fall in love with your
self, with music, and with
life. You change your hair
and clothes and go through
phases.
Some days it feels like the
world is crashing down on
you. It is an awful feeling
but the world is not over.
Other days will be good
and some might not even
have a feeling. Middle
school is three years of
torture and fun and love.
You will make bad and
good grades, you will cry
and laugh. Middle school
is hard. I’m not going to lie
but it's something we all go
through and you just have
to find ways to enjoy it.
Play sports, hang out with
friends, laugh, don’t take
yourself so seriously, and
most importantly enjoy it.
Three years go by so fast.
Make mistakes, make good
choices, and learn how to
accept the bad.
Don’t care what people
think, wear what makes
you feel confident, ask
questions. Stay true to
yourself and middle school
will not even phase you.
What advice would I
give to someone coming
to Monroe County Middle
School? I would tell them
that MCMS is a positive
learning environment for
students.
New students coming
here might be afraid to
move up to middle school,
but you shouldn’t be.
MCMS is very welcoming.
Some advice I would give
is to follow your PAWS.
PAWS are rules that we
are encouraged to follow.
It stands for P, positive
attitude, A, act responsibly,
W, work hard, and S, show
respect. We are quiet in the
hallway during transitions
to different periods unless
instructed otherwise.
If you follow your PAWS,
there are positive incen
tives. Some examples in
clude Bulldog Break where
we get about 15 minutes
to talk to friends, then we
have walk and talk, which
means instead of being
quiet during transitions,
you can talk to people.
Monroe County Middle
School is an awesome
school to attend.
Farewell to MCMS from
Memories
8th graders
STEAM Night
By Ella Martin
I’ve been at MCMS for three years
and a lot of things have happened, some
good and some bad. One good memory
of mine was actually something I was
dreading going to. The school hosts
S.T.E.A.M nights for students who want
to drop their lowest grade in either sci
ence or math. I was planning on going
because I wanted to drop my lowest
grade in math. My friend and I were
going to go together after soccer practice.
We met up and waited to get in. Along
the way we met up with some other
friends and we all ended up walking
around and doing the activities together.
We went to the science room first and
we attempted making marble roller
coasters. It was really fun and we kept
laughing because they added too many
loops to the roller coaster and the marble
wouldn’t stay on the coaster. We finally
figured out how to make the marble fall
into its designated space and we moved
on to the next activity.
Our next activity was art, we headed
to the art room and started what was
called “Line Drawing”. I had taken art so
I already knew what I was supposed to
do. I finished up my activity and helped
my friend with his. We got out of the art
room and my friends suddenly started
running to find our next activity. Run
ning in the halls was probably the most
fun part about the night because we were
all racing one another with so much
energy and excitement.
Our final activity was to make bouncy
balls. In my opinion this was the best
activity because it actually worked a few
times to my surprise. While making it we
went through trial and error but eventu
ally a few of us came out of the room
with solid bouncy balls that actually
bounced without breaking. We didn’t all
come out of the room with bouncy balls
but we all came out of the rooms with
dyed hands. Once we came out of the
room we went to the bathrooms to wash
our hands from the bouncy ball dyes.
None of us could get all the dye off but it
faded for the most part.
Once we finished washing our hands
we met up in the cafeteria for the pizza
they were going to serve. We all sat down
with our pizza and drinks as they started
calling names for the raffle. I wasn’t
expecting my name so I wasn’t that timed
in to the callings. Suddenly I heard my
name and got up to grab my prize. I was
shocked, and the funny thing is after
they called my name they called my dad’s
number. Two prizes! That was crazy! I
grabbed another prize, one that my sister
would’ve picked and sat back down with
my friends. We were all laughing because
of how lost I looked when I went up to
receive the prizes.
All in all that was a great night I got
to spend with friends so I’m glad I was
convinced to go. So maybe you should
try something new once in awhile; you
might like it.
Valentine's Dance
By Lydia Geer
I have had many experi
ences throughout my
three years at MCMS. My
most positive ones are
during the events that the
school provides.
The Valentine’s day
dance is my favorite event
since we get to have fun
with friends and eat good
food. The only negative
part is how cramped it
can get, especially in the
lunchroom. The lunch
room was cleared out for a
DJ and dancing.
This year, I had a memo
rable time with my good
friends there. There was
an empty corner in the
lunchroom that we found.
We started dancing and
acting like fools without a
worry about people judg
ing us.
At the end of the night, I
was very disappointed to
leave so early. I think that
was the most fun I have
had at a school event.
Valentine's Dance 2
By Erin Brown
My favorite memory at MCMS was this
past Valentine’s day dance. A lot of my
friends danced and took pictures and it
was a great time. They played music and
they had food there, too. We danced in
the cafeteria which surprisingly had a lot
of space. I always thought it was small
because it was always filled with chairs. It
is sad that I am leaving this year for high
school, but I am glad I got to experience
these memories here at MCMS.
Fall Festival
By Connor Yates
I walked into the gym
and BOOM! My mind
was blown as kids started
to rim and jump all over
the inflatables that re
placed our gym.
I had two hours here,
with the Bulldog Bazaar
and the cafeteria showing
movies. There was also a
karaoke room. I had no
idea what that was and
no intention of going in
there.
I ran to the giant slide
and Jupiter, a friend of
mine, asked me what was
up. He didn’t even wait for
a response and scrambled
up the ladder to slide
down. I grinned and half-
climbed, half-jumped my
way up to join him. After
sliding the slide a few
times, I went to the rock-
climb and did that.
I slowly meandered into
the cafeteria and got my
drink and pizza because
lunch was okay that day.
I quickly ate the Marco’s
pizza and decided to go
see the karaoke room.
I was stunned by black
ness. As soon as I could
see the group of people
sitting on the floor, I just
walked over to a chair and
thought, That looks kinda
fun....
After the song was over,
I slowly walked over to
the chorus teacher who
was running the room,
and handed her a slip of
paper with my song on
it. I then proceeded to
sing a song from Plants vs
Zombies. Not long after I
was done, it was over. That
was my first fall festival in
sixth grade and I’ve never
forgotten it.

Welcoming & flexible
By Lara Noguera
Monroe County Middle School is
one of the best schools I've been to.
The accommodating teachers and
staff make the school 10 times bet
ter. When arriving to this school for
the first time, you might be a little
nervous and it will be a new environ
ment compared to elementary. But
don’t worry, everybody is very friendly
and welcoming. I came to this school
in 7th grade, but the second I walked
into this school I knew I would love it.
For the two years I have been attend
ing MCMS, it has been the most flex
ible and life-changing education that
I’ve ever received.
They have many fun events you can
attend if you have followed PAWS.
PAWS are the rules you want to follow
in order to respect the school and
yourself. P stands for positive attitude,
A stands for act responsibly, W stands
for work hard, and S stands for show
respect. After all, this school has been
one of the best schools I have ever
been to!
