A Forsyth couple will have
to gut and re-build their
Juliette Road home after fire
destroyed the kitchen and
upstairs and claimed their
dog Millie on Wednesday,
May 18.
Ginny Sapp of 1686
Juliette Road said she was at
work when her Ring door
bell notified her at 2 p.m.
that there was movement by
her front door. She checked
the live view of her home
and could see smoke and
stuff falling from the ceiling
of her porch. “It was obvi
ous our house was on fire,”
she wrote on her Facebook
page.
Sapp called 911 and raced
home pulling in right be
hind the fire trucks. She told
them their dog Millie was in
the house. Firefighter found
her and fireman Chris
Andrews did CPR on her

fire started.
The fire started in the
kitchen and the kitchen and
upstairs were completely
destroyed. The rest was de
stroyed by smoke damage.
Sapp said they will put a
camper on their property
so they can be close to the
rebuild and her parents.
Sapp asked for prayers for
her family as she is also un

She said she’s thankful for
the support they’ve gotten.
“We are truly humbled by
the outpouring of love we

An icon of the South,
Waffle House opened the
doors of its first restaurant
in an Atlanta suburb on
Labor Day weekend in
1955. The franchise now
has 2,100 locations in 25
states. Country songs have
been written about the
eatery that can be heard on
jukeboxes in nearly every
location.
Waffle House owes its
success not only to a great
product but also to dedi

Dunbar who began her
career with the company in
1973 at the age of 14 where
she was trained by a lady
known as “Miss Lucy” in
store #136 at 286 North Lee
Street. Miss Lucy spent 49
years with the company.
DJ now has her beat by a
year and has spent the last
30 years at store #809 at
444 Tiff College Drive. She
estimates she has served
well over a million custom
ers over the past 50 years.
She has also worked at WH
franchises in Columbus,
Macon, and Bryon. She
even once worked for a

for a month while she was
on vacation and just wanted
to work.
She was born in Macon,
the daughter of Alford and
Velma Toland, who lived
in Juliette and she went to
Mary Persons High School
which was also attended
by her four children, Mary,
Wayne, Jeff, and Autumn.
She has no idea how far
back her family’s history
goes in Monroe County
only that it goes on for
generations.
Her idea of retirement is

of 21 hours a week. She
spends her time off chilling
with her old dog Bandit and
taking care of her younger
brother, Dale Toland who
suffered a stroke 6 years
ago.
DJ says the only thing
negative she can say about
her job is that sometimes
she gets too close to her
customers, they become
like family and it’s hard
when they pass on. She
added that her coworkers
are also like family.
