INCIDENT REPORTS . May 25, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Unlicensed woman jailed
after an improper turn
Cpl. Kimberly Barnett arrested
a woman driving a white Nissan
Murano with her mother and her
child after she made an illegal left
turn off Russell Parkway onto Lee
Street on April 27. Barnett made
the stop on the southbound on-
ramp of 1-75 and the driver said
she said she didn’t see the sign.
Dispatch said the woman had a
suspended license and an active
warrant for her arrest out of Up
son County. She was handcuffed
and searched.
Her mother took possession
of the vehicle and custody of her
juvenile child and the driver was
taken to jail where she was cited
with making an improper turn,
driving with a suspended license
and failure to update her address.
Man arrested for throwing
rocks at ex's window
Officer Michael Amerson went
to the Forsyth Gardens Apart
ments around 7:19 a.m. on April
28 in response to a report of a
man throwing rocks at his ex
girlfriends window after he had
been banned from the complex.
Dispatch gave his description
as wearing a black hoodie and
when Amerson arrived he saw
a man matching the description
who turned to walk away. Amer
son got out of his patrol car and
walked through a breezeway and
saw that officer Richard Mad
dox already had the suspect in
handcuffs and was placing him in
the backseat of his patrol vehicle.
Officer Kimberly Barnett said the
man had already been banned
from the property.
A weapon was found beneath
ex-girlfriends window and he
was taken to jail.
Atlanta woman tried
to run into traffic
An Atlanta woman driving
a 2021 Audi was stopped and
later arrested for obstruction by
deputy Shania Hawkins who saw
her failing to maintain lane and
changing lanes without signal
ing around 9:34 a.m. on April
28. Hawkins stopped her near
Rumble Road on 1-75 S and could
smell marijuana.
The woman told Hawkins
she knew her registration was
suspended and that she had a sus
pended license. After confirming
her license was indeed suspend
ed, Hawkins asked her to exit
the vehicle and told her she was
under arrest. The woman then
tried to run into the interstate
and yelled “Fine, I will die then! I
want to kill myself!”
Hawkins grabbed her, hand
cuffed her, and had to physically
pick her up and secure her in the
back seat of her patrol vehicle.
She was cited for failure to main
tain lane, failure to signal, driving
without a license, suspended
registration, no valid insurance,
windshield requirement, and
obstruction.
Drunk Juliette woman
stuck on railroadtracks
An intoxicated Juliette woman
driving a 2020 Nissan Armada
wound up stuck on the railroad
tracks at Hwy. 19 at Campbell
Way and then was taken to jail by
deputy Shania Hawkins on April
28 around 11:08 a.m. A trav
eler on 1-475 called the sheriff’s
department and said he saw the
Nissan driving recklessly and had
footage on his dashcam. Dispatch
released a BOLO and Hawkins
found the woman behind the
wheel with her car stuck on the
tracks and still in drive. The
deputy asked her put the car in
park but she was unable to com-
prehend.Hawkins put the car in
park and helped her out.
The woman was unsteady on
her feet and Hawkins smelled
alcohol. She agreed to a sobri
ety test but after multiple failed
attempts, Hawkins felt it was
unsafe for her to continue. While
enroute to jail, she kept asking
the deputy if she was going to
jail. Hawkins assured her that she
was. She was cited for DUI-refus
al and open container.
Man in uninsured Charger ar
rested for suspended license
A man driving a Dodge Char
ger traveling south on Lee Street
near Patrol Road was taken to
jail for no insurance by officer
Richard Maddox who ran the
vehicle’s tag information around
2:26 p.m. on April 29. The man
told Maddox his license was
suspended, and the officer asked
him to step out of his car and
handcuffed him. Maddox asked
about insurance coverage and the
driver said he had a policy, and a
card was found that had expired
in October 2021. Dispatch said
his license had been suspended
for several reasons. The man was
turned over to jail personnel.
Woman given a court date
for giving officers hard time
A woman driving a silver Nis
san Altima north on Cabaniss
Road was stopped and cited after
officer Richard Maddox ran the
tags on her vehicle around 3:47
p.m. on April 29 and learned the
car had no insurance and the
registration was suspended. After
Maddox activated his emergency
lights, the driver stopped in the
driveway the Forsyth Garden
Apartments.
She told Maddox she had insur
ance and began searching on her
phone for her insurance carrier.
The officer waited patiently for
several minutes until she finally
found an email from Auto-Own
ers Insurance dated October
2021, but the message showed
no policy number. Maddox had
dispatch contact Auto-Owners
to verify her insurance and while
waiting for a response the driver
stepped make to the patrol car
and showed Maddox a message
dated October 2021 with a policy
number and Walker Agency in
Monticello as the agent. Maddox
called the company and the agent
told him the policy had been
cancelled on Christmas Day.
When Maddox told the woman
that her insurance had been
canceled, she became very unco
operative and insisted on calling
her agent to verify. The officer al
lowed her to speak with the agent
and she was also told the policy
had been canceled. Maddox then
called for Sgt. David Asbell to be
enroute due to the driver refus
ing to comply with his requests to
exit her vehicle.
Asbell arrived a short time
later and both officers did all
they could to get the woman to
comply without incident. She
finally exited the vehicle after
going through the entire interior
of her vehicle several times trying
to extend the stop for 15 minutes.
And then, after several minutes
of asking her to sign the citations,
she finally signed acknowledg
ing receipt of citations. She was
provided copies and released to
appear on her court date.
Loud music from a Crown
Victoria lands man in jail
A man playing loud music next
to the pumps at the Circle K on
North Lee Street was arrested
around 11 p.m. on April 29 by
Cpl. Jeremy Malone who turned
around in Al’s Market when he
heard music coming from two
cars, similar in style, each with
one passenger sitting inside.
When Malone pulled up and got
out of his vehicle, both male driv
ers tried to get into their vehicles
and drive off.
The corporal told the driver of a
silver 2008 Ford Crown Victoria
to stop and come back to him,
but the man continued to try to
get into his car and Malone had
to grab him and pull him away.
While Malone was trying to
explain why he was stopped, he
kept pulling and trying to walk
away.
He refused to give his name and
Malone told him if he didn’t give
his information, he was going
to go to jail nameless. He still
refused to give his information
and kept telling another person
to move his vehicle and park it.
Malone then handcuffed him
for obstruction and playing loud
music.
Once the man was in the back
of the patrol car, he finally gave
his name, and his car was turned
over to his wife. He was turned
over to the Monroe County Jail
staff.
The following arrests were reported by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Forsyth
Police Department. An arrest means someone has been charged with a crime, but the
law considers them innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
