There is only one solution to sin
N ineteen innocent children and
two adults senselessly mur
dered at a Texas elementary
school. Ten shoppers assassi
nated simply because of the color of their
skin. More than one million sent to an
early grave by the corona-
virus. The West Coast is on
fire. People are protesting
for the right to kill their un
born babies. Moral declen
sion has become the norm.
Cultural conflicts are raging
exponentially... and the list
goes on.
The Psalmist David asks,
“If the foundations be
destroyed, what can the
righteous do?” (Psalms
11:3). The answer to that
question is, “continue to be righteous’.
Davids son, Solomon, informs us, “Righ
teousness exalted a nation: but sin is a
reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
But what is righteousness? David explains,
“My tongue shall speak of thy word: for
all thy commandments are righteousness”
(119:172). And what is this thing call sin?
John the Revelator gives the unambigu
ous answer, “Whosoever committeth sin
transgresseth also the law: for sin is the
transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4).
All ills that we are experiencing in our
society are symptoms of one problem.
That problem is sin. The apostle Paul
makes it abundantly clear what is the
result of this seemingly insurmountable
phenomenon. He writes to the church of
Rome and his message echoes through
the centuries to us today. “For the wages
of sin is death”. I am grateful that divine
inspiration did not stop there; for he con
tinued, “but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans
6:23).
Sadly, however, as the nation is sub
merged under the weight of sin and its
inevitable consequences, we still hear this
refrain from too many pulpits, “We do not
have to keep the law because we are under
grace”. Or, how about this one, “When
Jesus died on the cross and paid for our
sins on Calvary’s hill, He nailed the law to
the cross and therefore we no longer have
to keep the law”.
Consequently, today, from the pulpits
near and far, what the people get is a
plethora of secular humanism, intellectual
philosophy, political activism, Hollywood
entertainment and sophisticated pick
pocketing. Additionally, the message is
being sent to young and old alike, ‘there
are no absolutes. Whatever you feel in
your heart is what is right for you. You can
choose your gender, and whatever else
you think is right’. Could it be that this is
what resonates with the mass murderers?
Well, the chickens have come
home to roost. And what do the
people do? They turn to the gov
ernment for solutions. However,
the stark reality, which many
are unwilling to face, is that
the Only Solution to sin which
envelops us, is Jesus Christ.
What would society be like if
His perfect example of a sinless
life is preached from the pulpits?
He beckons us, “And I, if I be
lifted up from the earth, will
draw all men unto me” (John
12:32). What the people need, what the
world needs is the Gospel, the Only Solu
tion to humanity’s woes.
From the pen of one of America’s most
famous Bible commentators, as recog
nized by the Smithsonian Institution,
comes these words, “There is nothing
more calculated to strengthen the intellect
than the study of the Scriptures. No other
book is so potent to elevate the thoughts,
to give vigor to the faculties, as the broad,
ennobling truths of the Bible. If God’s
word were studied as it should be, people
would have a breadth of mind, a nobility
of character, and a stability of purpose
rarely seen in these times” (E.G. White,
Lift Him Up, page 111).
Oh, how I hope and pray that the so-
called ministers and preachers would
give the people the words of life, the good
news from this book. That is the Only
Sure Foundation. What a different world
we would be living in if only the people
were told that there is a standard to live
by, God’s law, the Only Sure Founda
tion. Prayerfully, it is not too late to begin
rebuilding the Foundation.

BOLINGBROKE
Continued from Page 1 B
came the interstates. Cars
whizzed by at 70 mph, not
knowing of Bolingbroke
and not even realizing
they’re rolling over terrain
that was once prime farm
land of crops, orchards,
and herds. That was me
when I passed through on
my way to Florida, 50 years
ago. While the interstate
highways have connected
the nation with ribbons of
concrete, they have discon
nected the traveler from
small town America.
So when the houses came

I think that now at last I

Interstate 75 was com
pleted through Monroe
County in the 1960’s.
With it came change - to
family farms and commu
nities, perhaps none more
so than Bolingbroke.
Jim Mickle talks of the
area before the interstate,
which now rims less than
100-yards behind his
house. Old timers won’t
say that they’re sad at the
changes, but you know
they are. When I go back
to Wisconsin, I see subdi
visions in the hay fields I
worked during the sum
mers. It’s the same here,
probably everywhere.
Peach orchards replaced
by on-ramps, swimming
holes filled in to level the
ground, and 18-wheelers
roll where old barns once
stood. As you drive the
area, realize that old man
Estes (Estes Road), old
man Shi (Shi Road), old
man Pate, and all the other
“old man Nolls” are long
gone. All that remains are
their shadows. Look real
hard and you’ll see them,
probably with a tear in
their eye.
‘Cause now the freeway
rolls where old man Noll
Used to run his sheep in
the meadow
And as you drive by, if you
really try
You still can see his
shadow
