INCIDENT REPORTS . June 8, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
Intoxicated Virginia man
asleep at wheel while block
ing Towaliga River Bridge
Deputies found a 28-year-old
Virginia man passed out behind
the wheel with the strong odor of
alcohol coming from the vehicle
at the Towaliga River Bridge on
Hwy. 83 N on May 10 around
6:43 p.m. Deputy Hannah Hile
was dispatched to the bridge on
a report of a gray 2015 Hyundai
blocking the road. Sgt. Chris
Sherrell and deputy Hogan ar
rived soon after.
The driver woke up suddenly
and Hile asked for his drivers
license. His speech was slurred,
and his eyelids were heavy as he
struggled to maintain eye contact
with the deputy. He began to
search for his license aimlessly
digging into the center console,
passenger seat, glovebox, and sur
rounding area without finding it.
While searching, his posture was
hunched over, and he moved very
slowly. When asked again for
his license he replied that he was
working on it.
Hile saw a bottle of Kentucky
Gentleman Bourbon Whiskey, an
extra-large Big Gulp plastic cup,
and gallon sized plastic bottle
containing an alcoholic beverage
inside the car and after admitted
that he had been drinking he was
asked to step out of the vehicle.
He refused.
He was asked again to step out,
but he continued to refuse, and
Hogan reached for him to help
him out when he stiffened his
body and dropped his body-
weight into the drivers side seat.
Hogan then removed him from
the vehicle and handcuffed him.
A glass pipe and a grinder with
marijuana residue was found in
the Hyundai. He was taken to jail
and charged with DUI-refusal,
possession and use of drug-relat
ed objects, open container, and
improper stopping.
Passed out intoxicated
driver found at accident
A 31 -year-old Macon man was
arrested for DUI-drugs on May
19 around 3 a.m. after deputy
Hanna Hile was dispatched to the
intersection of Juliette Road and
Old Indian Springs Road regard
ing an accident. Upon arrival she
found a black 2011 Mercedes
Benz C with a suspended regis
tration and a passed-out driver
reclined in the drivers seat.
The door was locked and
Hile tapped on the drivers side
window several times identifying
herself. The man was unrespon
sive, but she could see the rise
and fall of his chest. He finally
awakened and unlocked the
door, straining to open it, but
was unable to muster enough
energy. Hile opened the door for
him and asked if he was okay.
He was delayed in his response,
and she had to ask as second
time when he replied that he was.
The deputy then asked if he had
been drinking and or had taken
anything recently. He stated that
he “took a pill.”
His eyes were severely blood
shot, glossy and the whites of
his eyes were almost completely
red with pinpoint pupils. He told
Hile that the pill “had CBD.” He
said he was going to Macon but
had no idea of his whereabouts.
After running his information,
Hile learned he was wanted and
had a suspended license and had
him step out of his car.
As Hile held the door open, the
man stepped out very uneasy on
his feet and struggled to stand
up straight without fumbling his
footing and rocking backwards.
Hile grabbed him by his right
bicep and helped him to the front
bumper of her patrol car to await
the Monroe County Emergency
Services.
The man was then helped to
the back of the ambulance where
he agreed to a blood test. After
he was medically cleared, he was
handcuffed and taken to jail and
charged with DUI-drugs, failure
to maintain lane, suspended
registration, and driving without
a license.
Video catches man's daugh
ter and boyfriend steal
bandsaw from his garage
A man on Williamson Drive
accused his daughter and her
boyfriend of stealing a band saw
after reviewing security footage
on May 19 around 7:55 p.m. The
man told Cpl. John Cochran a
$519 band saw was missing and
that he had a video of the sus
pects committing the theft after
the boyfriend finished working
on his AC unit.
The footage shows the pair
entering the garage twice when
the boyfriend notices the saw on
the floor still in the box and he
picks it up, puts it back down,
then walks out. He later returns
looks up and notices a camera
and unplugs it.
Cochran called the mans
daughter and told her she and her
boyfriend were caught on camera
taking the bandsaw. She said she
had nothing to do with the theft
and that the corporal needed to
speak with her boyfriend.
Cochran told the boyfriend he
forgot about the other cameras
being in the garage and the man
told him he took the saw be
cause his girlfriend told him to.
He said he would return it, but
a few hours passed, and he was
a no show. Warrants were then
secured on the couple for theft by
taking.
Man says tan Pitbull killed
two of his chickens
A Juliette Road man com
plained to Cpl. Dalton Mosely
that a tan Pitbull attacked and
killed two of his chickens around
8 a.m. on May 20. He told the
corporal he knew who the owner
was because they just picked it up
from his home when it got loose
on the day before and that they
lived off Benson Ham Road. He
said the dog ran off in the direc
tion of Joe Chambers Road, but
Mosely was unable to find it.
The corporal then went to the
owners home where a man stated
that he took the dog in a few
months ago and has been having
issues with it. Mosely told him of
the county ordinance for leash
law in Monroe County and cited
him. The man said he didn’t want
the dog anymore and Mosely told
him to call animal control if the
dog came back. Mosely notified
animal control who said they
would set a trap.
Underage Jackson man
arrested for DUI
An 18-year-old Jackson man
was arrested for underage DUI
after a crash on Hwy 42 N
near Old Indian Springs Road
around 1 a.m. on Sunday, May
22. Deputy Charlie Bryson was
dispatched to the scene where he
found a white 2002 Chevrolet Sil
verado on the left shoulder. The
driver was sitting on the tailgate
of a SUV that had stopped to help
and his female passenger was
entrapped in the pickup com
plaining of a leg injury. EMS soon
arrived and began treatment for
Page 3B
her injuries.
When asked what happened,
the driver told Bryson that after
he came around the curve south
of Old Indian Spring Road, he
lost control of his vehicle, crossed
over the center line, and went
off the road onto the left shoul
der. He said he then went up an
embankment, which caused his
vehicle to roll over two times
before coming to rest upright. He
said he was able to get out, but his
girlfriend wasn’t.
Bryson could smell alcohol on
his breath and asked if he had
been drinking which he denied.
When Bryson told him he could
smell alcohol, he admitted to
drinking beer with the last one
about an hour earlier. He was
then handcuffed and taken to jail.
Wife took everything while
husband golfed with the boys
Officer Richard Maddox met
with a man at the Forsyth Police
Department on May 22 around
4:40 p.m. who told him he left to
attend a boys-only golf weekend
with his buddies and while he
was away, he spoke with his wife
and son each day he was gone but
when he arrived back home at
around 9 a.m. that morning, his
wife and son were gone and most
of the property had been re
moved from his home including
TVs, furniture, and all his wife’s
and child’s personal items.
He told Maddox he tried to
contact his wife numerous times
by phone and social media, but
to no avail. Maddox was able to
get in touch with his wife’s father
who lives in Spring City, Tenn.
who told him he spoke with his
daughter on Thursday, and she
said she planned on leaving her
husband while he was out of
town on vacation. He said she
and his grandson would be stay
ing with friends until she found
permanent residence. Maddox
relayed this information to the
husband and advised him to seek
legal representation.
The following arrests were reported by the Monroe County Sheriffs Office and Forsyth
Police Department. An arrest means someone has been charged with a crime, but the
law considers them innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
