INCIDENT REPORTS . June 15, 2022
The following incidents were reported by the Forsyth Police Department
and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.
City police respond to public
spanking at Captain D's
Forsyth police responded to
a report of a man striking two
female juveniles near the dump
ster at Captain D’s on North Lee
Street around 4:57 on May 22.
A man inside the restaurant told
Cpl. Kimberly Barnett and officer
Richard Maddox who told them
he struck his children on their
buttocks with a belt because they
had been fighting. The children
told Barnett their father whipped
them on their butts because they
were acting bad inside. They con
firmed that he struck them only
on their butts and nowhere else.
Waffle House disturbance
lands wanted man in jail
An drunk man prompted em
ployees at the Tift College Waffle
House to call police on May 22
around 7:45 p.m. and the man
later went to jail with numerous
charges. An employee told officer
Bruce Hughley a man came in
and after ordering, threw change
at the cashier. Words were ex
changed and the man was asked
to leave.
The man told the officer he
ordered food, paid for his order
and the waitress threw money at
him, so he threw it back at her.
He added that he was asked to
leave, but said he was not going
anywhere.
After running the mans infor
mation, Hughley learned he had
a warrant out of Lamar County,
which was confirmed, and they
wanted to place a hold. He was
arrested, handcuffed, and taken
to the Monroe County Jail for
booking. He was cited for public
drunkenness and disorderly
conduct and banned from Waffle
House.
DUI charge for driver speed
ing through Walmart lot
A black Dodge Ram pickup
truck was seen speeding through
the Walmart parking lot on
North Lee Street by officer Dexter
McCune around 10 p.m. on
May 22 and the intoxicated male
driver went to jail on multiple
charges.
At the stop McCune could smell
a very strong odor of alcohol and
asked the man if he had been
drinking and he replied that he
had had a beer. The officer had
him blow into a breathalyzer
which tested positive for alcohol.
Dispatch said the registration on
the truck had expired in Decem
ber and McCune called Comer
Wrecker Service. The driver was
handcuffed and arrested for DUI,
open container, expired registra
tion, and speeding.
Woman extradited to Ala. af
ter being caught with drugs
Sgt. Jake Justice spotted a red
2006 Jeep Commander turning
left without brake lights driven
onto 1-75 N from Hwy. 42 on May
23 around 5 p.m. and later took
the 32-year-old female driver to
jail for multiple charges. Justice
stopped the Alabama woman at
the entrance ramp of North Lee
Street and asked for her license.
She told him “I think I have them
somewhere” and proceeded to
give him her registration and
insurance information.
Justice again asked for her
license, and she told him she could
not find her license and gave him
an Alabama ID card. She told
Justice she had an active warrant
out for her arrest in Alabama,
but they would not extradite. She
added she had been staying with
her boyfriend at the Days Inn for
the past week.
Dispatch said her license was
suspended. While talking, the
corporal noticed two small dogs
inside her car, along with a lot of
other clutter in the front and back
seat. There was also a large bottle
of what appeared to be an alco
holic beverage in the floorboard
of the backseat. Brought to her
attention, she told Justice she had
not been drinking and would con
sent to a breath test. She said there
wasn’t anything else in the vehicle
that he should know about.
Sgt. Kevin Williams arrived to
help with a search and Justice
asked her again if there was any
thing he should know about, and
after she hesitated, he warned her
not to lie. She then told him there
was methamphetamine inside the
center console inside a small Zip-
loc bag. Williams found the bag
and found two small clear bags
of suspected methamphetamine,
along with a small clear bag of 5
white pills, suspected to be Xanax.
Inside her purse, he found two
large clear methamphetamine
pipes.
The woman was handcuffed
and taken to jail. Justice will seek
charges against her for possession
of methamphetamine, possession
of a controlled substance, and
possession of less than one-ounce
marijuana. She will also be cited
for driving on a suspended license,
tail light requirements, and open
container. Alabama confirmed
her warrant and said they would
extradite.
Hit and run driver found
asleep at railroad
Deputy Cody Maples was
dispatched to a hit and rim near
Johnstonville Road on 1-75 S on
May 24 around 9:50 a.m. Mean
time, a BOLO was issued on a
red 2017 Nissan Altima that had
struck a vehicle and left the scene
driving recklessly and had exited
onto Johnstonville Road, headed
towards Lamar County. A witness
said they were following the Nis
san and that it had turned onto
Crawford Road
Maples was told that the sus
pect’s car was failing to maintain
its lane, traveling on the wrong
side of the road, and that it almost
struck another vehicle. The wit
ness then called dispatch to report
that the car had stopped on the
railroad tracks on Crawford Road.
The deputy found the car
stopped in the center of the road
several feet from the tracks and
found the driver asleep in the
driver’s seat with the windows
down and the motor running.
Maples could smell alcohol and
yelled at the driver to wake him.
Once the driver woke up, Maples
asked him to turn the vehicle off
and step to the back of his car. The
man’s eyes were glassy, red, puffy,
and bloodshot and his eye lids
continued to droop as if he was
falling asleep. When he exited his
vehicle, he was swaying heavily

and used the car for balance. At
the back of his car, he continued
swaying and had to lean on his ve
hicle to remain upright. The smell
of alcohol was strong.
Maples asked if he knew that he
had struck another vehicle and
the man replied no then explained
that the damage to his vehicle
was preexisting. When asked why
he stopped in the road, he told
Maples he was just trying to make
it to work at UPS in Atlanta and
that he was just tired. He then
asked what time it was and again
told Maples in slow, slurred, and
drawn-out speech that he needed
to get to work.
Maples asked if he was going to
Atlanta why was he going south
and he answered that he just needs
to get to work. The deputy then
asked if he was having a medical
emergency or under the influence
of alcohol and the man replied he
was diabetic and had not con
sumed alcohol. He agreed to allow
Maples to search his car and Sgt.
Chris Sherrell stood with him
while Maples retrieved a red Solo
cup from the center console that
contained an alcoholic beverage.
The man told the deputies it had
been in there for a while.
He refused to perform a field
sobriety test or give a breath
sample and again asked for the
time. He was then handcuffed
and turned over to the jail staff
and cited for hit and rim, DUI-
refusal, failure to maintain lane,
and open container.
Woman claims Lexus stolen
by St.Johns Road man
A Forsyth woman met with Sgt.
Jake Justice in the front lobby of
the sheriff’s office around 1:52
p.m. on May 24 with a complaint
that her 1999 Lexus had been
stolen by a man she no longer
lived with. She told Justice the
