FATHER
Continued from Front
and passion for the Uni
versity of Georgia and its
sports programs, sports in
general, music, hunting,
fishing, nature, good food
and mostly his love and
passion for God, Country,
Family and Friends are
very apparent and conta
gious. Those who know
and love him know that he
is opinionated and steady
in his beliefs. He lives life
to its fullest and he is larger
than life. He supports our
activities. He lives each day
with a zest for life which
includes trying new things
he sees as opportunities. He
begins each day in prayer
and his list is long.
Daddy has been active in
his beloved church and his
community. He has given
many hours of service
in both his professional
and social commitments.
These acts of love are with
a grateful heart. I think one
year all six of us children
volunteered him to get a
Christmas tree for different
events.
Some expressions that
come to mind when think
ing of Daddy are that he’s a
bit of a Renaissance man,
he does not let grass grow
between his toes, and he’s
a man’s man. Having said
that, this pedestal of a
man will tear up at family
gatherings while saying the
blessing. He is a great story
teller and laughs heartily
when we share stories that
we would not have shared
in our younger days.
He has always been there
for his children. When our
Mother was ill for quite
sometime before her pass
ing, Daddy doted on her
and took very good care of
her. He kept her at home
and comfortable. To be
clear, Daddy always doted
on Mama, and Mama
doted on him, too.
Jennifer’s husband, John,
in a lay sermon six months
before prematurely pass
ing away said, “One of the
most important things I
can do for my young son
is to show him how much
I love his mother.” Daddy
shows us his character, not
only in how much he loves
and cares for us, but also in
the great love and attention
he showed our mama. He
is a fine man and true to
his word. He is the best of
what this world has to offer.
It is with joyful hears that
we submit this nomination
for Father of the Year. He is
loved!

Cat rescued from car engine
By Steve Reece

It was such a beautiful morning last Sunday that
Rose Simonds decided to go to the early service
at Momentum Church on North Lee Street. As
she was standing on her back porch getting ready
to leave, she suddenly heard a strange animal-
type noise like something she had never heard
before nor could she tell where the racket was
coming from.
She thought it might be a cat because sitting
next to her car was the troublesome stray mama
cat that always comes into her yard and sits
beneath her birdbath trying to catch birds, but
Rose said the cry didn’t sound like a kitten by any
means. She tried calling the
animal but soon gave up
so she could get to church.
That’s where things started
to get interesting:
While Rose was inside
the sanctuary a lady ap
proached her and said she
believed there was a cat in
the engine compartment of
her car. Rose then went out
to the parking lot and found
a crowd of people gathered
around her vehicle. She
popped the hood and saw a
little yellow kitten trapped
within the confines of the
engine just out of reach,
crying to be set free and
several people started tak
ing turns trying to reach
the kitty, but none were
successful.
Flustered, Rose went back
inside the church and found
Robert Pye, guitarist for the
Worship Team Band that
plays during the services
and enlisted his help. The
band had just finished
rehearsal and it was getting
close to the time for the
service to start but Robert
rushed to the rescue.
He soon figured out that
he needed a pole of some
sort to nudge the feline to
freedom and Mandi Bal
lard who was there visiting
Momentum for only the
second time with her two
daughters and her husband
Drew, found a hiking stick
in her car. Pye then was

he was very drunk and
an emotional wreck.
The corporal asked him
why Rebecca’s clothes
were thrown all
over the ground
and Richard told
him she needed
to leave. Brown
responded that
she could probably
leave quicker if her
belongings weren’t
scattered all over
the yard, but Richard
continued to rant and
antagonize Rebecca, call
ing her terrible names due
to some event occuring
during their marriage.
Brown suggested that
Richard step in the house
and let Rebecca pack
without the distractions
and constant bashing
while doing so. Richard
then said he was going
inside of the residence
to grab a cigarette and
Brown followed him in
to make sure he was not
retrieving any weapons
when Richard turned
and said, "Hey, you need
to get out of my house!"
Brown told him that he
would step outside, but
he wanted to make sure
he was not going to grab a
gun or decide to make an
irrational decision due to
his lack of sober judge
ment. Richard said, “No,
you need to get out of my
house.”
Richard then called his
blue nose Pitbull from
the living room area and
pointed towards Brown in
a "sic ’em" style call. The

the door just enough so he
wouldn’t be bit while still
watching Richard who
was in the living room.
Richard then went to the
door and tried to close it
and Brown unholstered
his weapon and told him
if he didn’t call off the dog,
he would shoot it.
Richard then backed
away and Brown told him
he would stay at the door
while he got his cigarette.
Richard then called his
dog away and nearly
fell when he stumbled
over some living room
furniture. Rebecca went
inside the house with
another person and said
she needed to get three
dressers out of her room
and that would complete
her packing. Richard fol
lowed her into the room
while nearly falling over
and yelling," Get your sh*t
and get the f**k out of my
house!" The deputies soon
heard a loud dispute tak
ing place and entered the
room where they found
Richard on the floor yell
ing. Rebecca said he may
have hit his head on the
dresser.
Brown grabbed Richard,
told him to
turn onto his
stomach and
place his hands
behind his
back. He was
then arrested
for reckless
conduct and
disorderly con
duct. Brown
told him he was given
several chances to peace
fully allow Rebecca to get
her things, but he chose
otherwise.
The deputies had to
carry Richard to Brown’s
patrol vehicle and Brown
noticed Richard had
soiled his pants.
Rebecca was told the
residence was going to be
secured and she would
have to come back an
other time for the dressers
and that Richard would
have to be present to make
sure his property is not
being taken. He also told
her to go to the Monroe
County Magistrate Court
and request for a deputy
to go to the residence with
her at a scheduled time.
Richard was taken to the
Monroe County Justice
Center for processing and
warrants were filled out
for disorderly conduct and
reckless conduct for his
actions with the Pitbull.
